m having problem in passing parameter to controller action, i have done the following
Url.Action("SchoolDetails","School",new{id=item.SchoolId}) and my controller action follows
public ActionResult SchoolDetails(string schoolId,_ASI_School schoolDetail)
{
schoolDetail = SchoolRepository.GetSchoolById(schoolId);
return View(schoolDetail);
}
i dn't know why the schoolId above in action is getting null..
I need to render a chart control inside UpdatePanel, I have done this part.
The difficult part is that now I need to pass parameter/parameters to server side and grab it in code-behind
so that I can use this information to render the chart.
The parameter/parameters can only be grab in client side by javascript since it is jQuery.data().
I am trying to work around this by saving it to a hidden field, that is not neat though.
in a grid view i have a checkbox column ,which is making checked based on the char value from the SQL DB.
In SQL DB field type is char(1).
My requirement is , need to pass "Y" if checkbox is true ,and "N" if checkbox is false.How to pass that parameter in an update statement.
How it is possible?I used the parameter like as follows.But it is giving me an error when i click update.Groupid parameter is working perfect.The error is coming from the "HPermission" parameter.
<asp:BoundField DataField="GroupID" HeaderText="GroupID" InsertVisible="False" ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="GroupID" />
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Hud" >
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="chkStatus1" runat="server" AutoPostBack=false
Checked='<%# Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("HPermission").ToString().Equals("Y")) %>'
/>
</ItemTemplate>
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" />
</asp:TemplateField>
UpdateCommand="exec [dbo].[GridUpdDel] @GroupID,@HPermission,'UPDATEPERMISIION',0,'',''" >
<UpdateParameters>
<asp:Parameter Name="GroupID" />
<asp:Parameter Name="HPermission" />
</UpdateParameters>
Consider the following scenario.You have a Edit action (GET and POST) for an entity that multiple pages link into (GET EDIT). What is the best way of getting back to the page that linked to the edit action? Adding a returnTo url in the query?
Example, from MyCart/3 we have a edit product link
/Product/Edit/5?returnTo=MyCart/3 (but url encoded)
And from Producer/45 we have this link
/Product/Edit/5?returnTo=Producer/45
Is there a better way to do this?
I've been using Html.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") to invoke child actions across controllers without needing to have the view in ViewsShared. This has been working great for displaying things like session or cookie information.
Instead of just accessing cookies, I would like to pass additional parameters to Html.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") so the action can execute different code based on the the data passed to the original view.
Should I be using a different method to pass parameters to a child action in a different controller?
I'm a newbie into MVC and I am like only on chapter 7 in ASP.NET MVC Unleashed so be easy with m

how do I tell Create Button to send to an Action named Create and to Edit to an Action named Edit on the same form?I guess it is possible on ASP.NET MVC if it is possible on ASP.NET Webforms
I have a user requirement to hav the ability to directly edit the gridview without having to click the edit link. I was thinking of showing dropdown lists for each column-to-row so that the user can select the values for each record. Then the table will be updated accordingly (no update link).
Is this possible or do I still need the edit template and specify the item template with the dropdown list?
I am rather new to ASP.NET MVC and am trying to develop good practices and have studied a few tutorials and videos. There seems to be some differences in how people define the signature of a typical edit action method - sometimes the id (primary key) is listed and sometimes not. It seems like letting the framework do the model binding is a GOOD THING, so I will probably have the model (or view model) as a parameter:
ActionResult Edit(int id,
CompanyViewModel company);
ActionResult Edit(CompanyViewModel company);
But, should the id be a parameter too? I assume it is common-place to have the id in a hidden form field as well so the id (primary key) is then already bound in the model (or view model) - if so, what is the id parameter good for? Or should it be the other way around - keep the id parameter and do not bother using a hidden field for it? What are the pros and cons and what is the best practice?
I have an edit action that is not updating. The code is below. When i debug the code , i see my udated field but it doesnt seem to get saved into the database.

i wonder something about mvc post method. for example I created a view "strongly typed" from a model (MyModel).
<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Demo1.Models.MyModel>" %>
for Create actionsthere is two way.
first one takes MyModel as parameter
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult cart(MyModel md, int someID)
{
//some code
//.....
return View(MyModel);
}
second one does not take parameter as model.
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult cart(int someID)
{
//some code
//.....
return View(Mymodel);
}
for first one way, after form post the form values does not delete, I mean form does not cleared,after second one form is be cleared. why this diffirence?
public ActionResult RenderMyThing(IList<String> strings)
{
return View("RenderMyView");
}
How do I pass in strings?
routes.MapRoute("MyRoute", "RenderMyThing.aspx", new { controller = "My", action = "RenderMyThing" });
Is there a way I could pass in strings here?
Secondly, how does ASP.NET MVC know that action is my action, and controller is my controller. Like I saw this in samples, and it does work, but isn't it just an anonymous object with no type?
I have created a web service (.asmx) which is working fine locally.Now when a client of ours is trying to access this web servce he receives an error sayinginvalid action parameter.Any idea why this error appears..also will

In my view I have this:

action is:
[Code]....
But numbers is always null. How come? How can I get this to work?
Is it possible to edit the content of a view from a action filter.
What I am working on is a Resourcemanager that I can use to manage
my style sheets, js and other resources. I want to be able to put
lines in the the view any where like Html.ResourceManager.AddScriptFile("MyScript")
or Html.ResourceManager.AddCSSFile("MyCSS")
and at the end of the view call Html.Render(); this would then place the content of my resources at this point. My problem is that I want to put the CSS stuff at the top of the view, but them problem is that it is renderend at the end of the view, so I tought that I could use a ActionFilter to move it to the top of the view.
1) What would be the best way to do this task ?
2) Is there any resources that describe the way that the MVC framework works in more detail ?
I have the following function signuture:
public JsonResult PopulateGrid(int page, Guid? accountId, Guid? systemUserId, Guid? branchId, DateTime? fromDate, DateTime? toDate, HomeVisitType? homeVisitType)
Every single parameter is bound just fine except toDate which turns out to be always null. When inspecting the Request.QueryString["toDate"] it retrives the right value which is 30/09/2010. It seems that DateTime expects another format when binding.
What is the right format?
I thought this would be easy and maybe it is but it's eluding me.
In an action filter (MVC 2) I want to add/edit one of the parameters for the type I'm passing to my action method.
I have an action method:
[Code]....
Bar is a simple class for viewData:
[Code]....
In my BarFilter action filter OnActionExecuting method I want to add a value for paramA which is not set by the view so that Bar will be fully populated in my Foo action method. I've tried various methods of adding values to ViewData, ModelState, Model etc. but I always get a null returned in Foo.
I am trying to get this functionality on my jokes website:
www.mysite.com/category/bar
To get all the bar jokes ..etc
The way I have my route right now is:
{controller}/{action}/{id}
which means I have to type:
www.mysite.com/category/index/bar
the problem is that even with that, the string parameter "bar" isn't being acknowledged ! ( I know from debugging). Here is my Index action in the Category controller:

I have some textboxes and a table of data created client side that I want pass to a controller as JSON.
I want to use Jquery to enumerate the table.
Assume I have 2 textboxes called name and age. Assume a table with 2 columns. one column with class called phonetype and one column class called phonenumber.
So how do construct the JSON from this?
I have created a VS 2008 web setup project with a dialog so that I can modify the web.config file at install. The setup worked as expected. However, I can not seem to accept a URL for a property value via custom data. I know directories are escaped with "", is there any similar escaping or tricks for a URL.
View 1 RepliesHaving a brain fart again - i just wanna pass the contents of a TextBox to a Controller Action via an ActionLink - and i cant figure out how
Heres my View
[Code]....
My Controller:
[Code]....
but name is always null - how can i pass the current value in the textbox? ViewData directionary doesnt seem to work either
PS. Id love to pass the entire model from the View -> Controller - but it complains about not having a parameterless constructor (which i do)
I have the following action executed when a user selects an item from the dropdown;
[Code]....
The object paymentApplicationRefund is populated. I want to get the contents of this object to put in a Html.Textbox(). How do I proceed??
My problem with the following is how do I send the ModelStateErrors to the action Employee, when I go through the catch part in DeleteEmployee
[Code].....
With return View("Employee", model); I a still not able to send the ID and Name as parameter.
I am having one controller Test having following actions
(1)public ActionResult ABC (string parameter1, string parameter2)
(2)public ActionResult XYZ (string parameter1, string parameter2,string parameter3, string parameter4)
i have added following html.routelinks
<%= Html.RouteLink("ABC","ABC", new { parameter1 = 100, parameter2 = 200 } )%><br />
<%= Html.RouteLink("XYZ", "XYZ", new { parameter1 = 1000 , parameter2 = 2000 }) %>
last two parameters in XYZ action are optionals so i have not passed them in Html.routelink
routes.MapRoute("ABC", "Test/{parameter1}/{parameter2}", new { controller = "Test", action = "ABC", parameter1= 0,parameter2=0 });
routes.MapRoute("XYZ", "Test/{parameter1}/{parameter2}/{parameter3}/{parameter4}", new { controller = "Test", action = "XYZ", parameter1=0,parameter2=0 ,parameter3=UrlParameter.Optional,parameter4=UrlParameter.Optional});
In above senario in both cases same route "ABC" is called eventhough i have clicked on second Html.routelink. can anyone solve this issue ? how can i route according to route name instead of number of parameters?
I'm trying to implement paging in my app, so i need to know what page the user wants to click on, as well as pass the model (for some fields)I'm able to pass the desired page, just not the model (for the search criteria)here is my view:
[Code]....
Heres my Controller Action
[Code]....
My ViewModel SearchResults has a string property "Search". When i do it this way searchModel == null in the NextPage Action.
