MVC :: Render The Table For The Search Results As Long As The User Hasn't Pressed The Search Button?
Jan 18, 2010
As a newbie coming from a Java background with tag libraries I wonder if there is a simple possibility to render areas depending on backend values. For example if I have search form I do not want to render the table for the search results as long as the user hasn't pressed the search button. Of course I can iterate over the model containing an empty list but this does not allow to suppress rendering the whole table.Using web forms I would just control the visibility of the affected tag(s) in the code behind file but how do I do this with ASP.NET MVC?Can I use a partital view for a case like this? But I think I would have the same problem. How can I determine if a partial view is rendered (e.g. the whole result table with header)?
on the form i have one dropdown and search button. Accroding to selected value of dropdownlist, on pressing search button user will see results in gridview.now in after the result is shown and user selects say page 2 then results are shown of page 2. But then if i select new dropdownlist value and press search, it shows result but directly goes to page 2(last time's page selected) instead of showing page 1....
I am working on a website hosted with GoDaddy, SQL Server 2005. I have a table in my SQL Server database with a full-text index. On my website, a user can type in search terms and the terms are then passed to a stored procedure in the database which performs the search. The first search takes about 45 seconds to get results. Subsequent searches return results immediately. I found a description of this problem in a Microsoft knowledgebase article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915850/en-usGoDaddy tech support says I need to purchase a dedicated server to make the changes suggested in this article.Surely there is some other solution. Does anyone know how to avoid this delay without changing the server configuration?
i have some text boxs in a page and in the same page there will be a table 'grid' like for holding the search result. When the user start editing and of the textbox above, the search must start by sending all textboxs values to the server 'ajax', and get back with the results to fill the below grid.
Notes:This grid should support paging, sorting by clicking on headers and it will contains some controls beside the results such as checkboxs for boolean values and links for opening details in another page.
I know many ways to do this some of them are:1- updatepanel around all of these controls and thats it "fast dirty solution"
2- send the search criteria using ajax request using JQuery post function for example and get back the JSON result, and using a template will draw the grid "clean but will take time to finish and will be harder to edit later".
3- ....My question is:What do you think will be the best choice to implement this scenario? because i face this scenario too much, and want to know which implementation will be better regarding performance, optimization, and time to finish.
I want to add a search field and have search results display in a user-friendly format on an employee intranet. Does anyone know what component(s) I can drag over from the toolbox to create these two items?
I'm working on a asp.net forms web application where I've got advanced search form with grid listing results below. Grid is sortable and pageable. Grid is listing products.
I've got two requirements :
1) make the url remember the advanced search form state so search results page can be bookmarked etc.
2) on the product details page there is a back button that should take the user to the advanced search page with the same settings in the form and same grid state.
I have implemented a workaround to above two problems but I don't think my solution is very clean and I'd like to hear better ideas. My workaround is as follows :
1) I iterate through form fields and I put values into the querystring after the hash. So when the page is loaded it gets the values from url if available.
2) when user clicks a link to product details page from the grid I use javascript to create a cookie with url to advanced search page so when rendering the product details page I know the url for the back button.
I wanted to a window to pop up when the user clicks on an image. In the pop window, i want to display a text box to search and a button to submit the search. Also on the same pop up, i want to use a radiobutton list to give the option of choosing to search by first name or last name.on searching, i want to display a list of employee names matching the search and give a radio button next to each of them to select the record. On selection, the user will click an OK button below the records. On clicking OK, the pop up window should close and the employee id of the employee selected should be visible in the text box next to the image.Does anyone have an idea of how to do this, because i am not too sure that i have explained it properly.
I have this search interface that I work out through the use of a odalpopupextender and a panel. I used GridView in displaying all the customers. I enable the paging attribute of GridView control and I limit the total number of rows to be displayed. Now I have a three (3) page of the GridView control to browse. It is quite annoying that if a certain customer is located on the second page of the GridView control, the search interface window closes and so therefore I need to click again on the search button to display the search interface.
now have tried to locate and find anything about how to make a
TEXTBOX and A Button "Search"
Problem is that I have made this "bellow" and when I then enter a "value" into texbox2 and hit enter on the button it wont show me the "emnenummer" that I have requested.
im not even sure this is the correct way to do a "search"
I am trying to make an asp site where someone types in a search term, then google (or any search engine) is searched for that search term and the resulting urls are compiled into a database.
Is this possible? How would i access the search results?I have seen other websites that do something similar - for example on one site you type in your search term and your website, and it comes back with which page your site is for that search term - how does it access the search results?
I have a ASP.NET (VB) Dynamic Data Project in ASP.NET 4.0. It works great - and offers filtering - but now I want to add searching to it. What is the best way to accomplish this in ASP.NET 4.0? Is there any built-in functionality for performing searches declaratively?
In my web form I have a search box. The user enters a string, and once the search button is clicked, I pass the value from my .js file to my .cs file and do some processing to get the results. Up to this point everything is fine, but now I dont know how to get my results back to my .js page. The serach results at this point are in a dataset, and also in an multidimensional array. I have a multi array because I need to pass back the code and description of the items found.
[Code]....
At this point I have used the passed string 'value' to get my required code/descriptions, but i'm not sure how/if I can get either the Dataset or multidimensional array back to my .js page
I would like to show the results from the search in another page. How do I show the results of the search in another page when the user press the button?
Anyone can help providing some code/suggestion on how to implement Search and displaying results on same page using MVC and simple way to implement paging with Ajax.
Below are the search parameters(search Page looks like below) i need to pass to db to get results. We are using MVC2 with entity framework.
I've an ASP.NET page with a textbox and a option from user of the following choices: Wikipedia, Google, Dictionary.com, Flickr, Google images. The user enters a word(s) in the textbox and selects a choice among the following.
Depending on the choice select by the user I wish to return the following.
Wikipedia: Return the content and link to the page corresponding to the topic about the word.
Google: Return the top 10 results of google search for this word.
Flickr: Return a few images atmost 10 images from flickr search
GoogleImage: Return a few images from google image search.
I am trying to create a search filter much like the one used on eBay that dynamically comes up with appropriate search categories based on the search results left. For example: [URL]
As you can see the search filters on the left are based upon the details displayed on the product results.
I need to try and implement something similar for an ASP.NET site, whereby I need to filter articles based on fields such as sales, companies, employee numbers etc. My database is quite normalised so I am able to separate all the data into their own tables.
Dim Result As New DataTable DataAdapter.Fill(Result) 'bind data to visible surname/name grid If Result.Rows.Count = 0 Then NoInputBottom.Text = "No Results. Please widen your search criteria and try again" NoInputTop.Text = "No Results. Please widen your search criteria and try again" Else GV.DataSource = Result GV.DataBind() End If
I have also tried moving the check to the gridview like so:
If GV.Columns.Count = 0 Then NoInputBottom.Text = "No Options Selected: Please select your search criteria and try again" NoInputTop.Text = "No Options Selected: Please select your search criteria and try again" End If
When I run the code. the noinput labels do not have value, the null check seems to be failing? how to display a message if the search returned no reults.
I am developing a web form for search capability. The search query should return records from three different tables. How to display these three table records in three different rows. The search query should get the results from Table 1 and Table 2. Table 2 and Table 3 has a parent child relation ship. Which controls can I use for this purpose?
I'm developing a search page that will display the results in a gridview. The codebehind (in VB.NET) uses a SQL command to fill the gridview.
The gridview does have paging and sorting enabled. Once the search button is clicked the initial results are displayed, if the user clicks on a sorted column or wants to advance a page the gridview disappears. Enable Sorting And Paging Callbacks is set to True. Enable ViewState is also set to True.
