i am just having a play with HtmlHelpers in MVC, very useful stuff and now i am trying to create one for dropdowns based on passing in a model ( any ) what the property is for the value and same for text.
When you render one of the "built in" html helpers (say "TextBoxFor") with ":" (so it's encoded) it renders fine.However if I render the following (a custom file input helper) with ":", the markup are displayed.I understand why. Just don't know how to prevent this (no, I want to stay with ":" and not use "=")(I looked at the source code for the built in ones, but can't see what I'm missing: ttp://aspnet.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/view/23011#288010 )
I have a view that is strongly typed and its model is of type LogOnModel. That LogOnModel has anotated properties like this one:
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter your password")] [DataType(DataType.Password)] [Display(Name = "Password", Description = "Your secreet password")] public string Password { get; set; }
All of them has Display anotation with Display.Descripion property set. I want to create HtmlHelper extension method that will output <span> containg the value of Display.Description property. So for example if I called my extension method DescriptionFor than this code:
<%: Html.DescriptionFor(m => m.Password) %>
should produce following html: <span>Your secreet password</span>
how to make a stadard HTML button call an action method and pass parameters to it? Can you please show me an example of how to do this? THis is the method:
public ActionResult CCDReview([DefaultValue(1) int CUrrentPage]) { //method code is here. }
Yes, my button is wrapped in a form, and it's a "submit" button.
I would like to extend the HtmlHelper by using metadata (similar to DataAnnotaions metadata). Specifically I want to be able to add a 'Title' attribute to html controls that will then appear as a tooltip on the control. I would like to keep the tooltip text with my model, for example by adding 'Tiltle' metadata to the model as follows:
[DisplayName("User Id")] [Title("Enter your 10 digit user id")] property UserId { get; set; }
So the questions are:
1. How do I add metadata (such as 'Title') to my model?
2. How do I access this metadata in my HtmlHelper extension method?
I am trying to make a PhoneNumber Control. I inherit from Composite Control. It contains 5 controls : 1 Label (Text to show before), 3 TextBoxes(area, prefix and line) and a Custom Validator. What I want to happen is the validator to validate the control is belongs to in two ways: 1. that the field is required and 2. That the COMBINED text of the 3 textboxes is 10 digits. I believe i can accomplish this with the expression ^d{10}$. Now I have it about halfway working, it will validate the control using client-side embeded validation on a submit click, however I need the control to validate as soon as the text of any of the boxes changes. I know this is done on the aspx page by using a Custom Validator -> specifying client and server side validation functions -> and then at end of page doing ValidatorHookupControlID(control, va lidator). My goal is to do all of this within the control to clean aspx code and make it more reusable.
I have an ASP.net gridview on a webform where user's can select a row. When they select it, the row is highlighted yellow. The problem is that when I sort the table, it sorts properly but the highlight stays on the same line. The data all moves, but the highlight stays put.
I have a scenario where I've created a custom control that connects to a database and gets records from the last X number of months where X is any desired number. I use a "MinDate" parameter to determine how far back to look.
When I add my control to my page, how can I set the "MinDate" parameter to something like "DateTime.Today.AddMonths(-3)"? I've tried:
I'm considering purchasing a resharper license but would like to know if there are any possible alternatives to resharper and how would you rate these compared to reharper? It doesn't necessarily have to be a free alternative but I would just like to know how good equivalent products are.
Running solution with VB.NET & C#, ASP.NET, VS 2008 with ReSharper 5 Most of the time, ReSharper is working (redundant code grayed out, squiggles, etc.) Sometimes, on the same code where it was working, nothing is highlighted to show ReSharper is enabled. I haven't done anything except modify code and debug. What is going on that turns it on/off?
When I run a page using the above config file, I get an error saying The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. (it doesn't like the ampersand in the address)
I just installed ASP.NET MVC Preview 3 and created a new Razor ViewEngine project. The site works fine, but I have no Syntax Highlighting or Code Completion in the views. Is this a bug or a known limitation in the Preview? I am using VS 2010 Ultimate and Resharper 5.0.1659.36
I would like to make a custom accordion, in which I have 2 panes, but where you couldn't open the second one until you clicked a validation button in the first one that would open the second...
I tried to just make a button that would hide the first pane but I cant get to make it work.
i have implemented custom MembershipProvider and now i would like to use CreateUserWizard to create new users.. the problem is that i want to store in the db more information that normally (e.g. first and last name). There is function:
public override MembershipUser CreateUser(string username, string password, string email, string passwordQuestion, string passwordAnswer, bool isApproved, object providerUserKey, out MembershipCreateStatus status) { throw new NotImplementedException(); }
which i can implement but it won't store first name etc. i found here: [URL] solution that i can overload this function and call it manually but the default CreateUser function will still be called in this case...
I have a fundamental question to ask about web services. I'm currently writing a service that has custom classes (lots of them). Let's say a car is one example. For some reason I was thinking that the service should expose these objects. However once I created a site to consume the service, it looks as though the classes are not meant to be exposed. It looks like the best practice is to take in a string which may be xml or not and convert that string into the object in the service code.(especially for error handling or input validation)
For example, if I had the web method:
[WebMethod] public car getCar(int carId) { //code here to return car object }
This will take a car ID and return a car object. It also shows all the elements in the SOAP request and response objects (as well as the WSDL) which can be to external developers. However, when trying to consume the service from a website (or reference it in my code), I then need access to the Car class (which implies i need to expose it through the services as well?).
Using VS2008 and R# 5 I'm running into an odd situation, where on an aspx page I keep getting
Cannot resolve symbol 'symbolname'
But the code compiles and runs fine. While having a fix for this would be great, I'm just trying to figure out if I'm losing my mind.
The CodeFile directive and Inherits directives are fine. If I compile the app or just let devenv sit for a bit it'll go away, but as soon as I save the aspx [via ctrl+s] R# suddenly has trouble with the Inherits attribute and flips out on every method in the page (OnClick etc).
// Anonymized of course but otherwise intact <%@ Page AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="TestPage.aspx.cs" Inherits="TestPage" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" Title="Test Page Title" %>
This is mostly just a grievance, because since the code compiles it doesn't stop me from doing what I need.
I would post a bug report to the JetBrains site but first I would like to know I'm not alone. It could be my machine. Maybe when I roll to VS2010 in a couple weeks this will go away?
Basically until i had resharper i noticed my code quality was good...but due to tight deadlines I hardly payed any attention to why the code was modified and what the new code did better. I would like to write my own code, but check it once in a while at my leisure to see how things can be made better.Is there any online tool which helps clean code or write smaller code somewhat like what resharper does?Something similar to JSlint.com for JavascriptIs there any online tool which can do this on C# code snippets?
I've written my own staticsitemapprovider which builds a dynamic site map. The problem I have is that sometimes pages will have additional parameters in the query string which I need to ignore. Public Overrides Function FindSiteMapNode(ByVal rawUrl As String) As SiteMapNode
Dim startpos As Integer = 0 Dim endpos As Integer = 0 If rawUrl.Contains("pagetype=") Then startpos = rawUrl.IndexOf("pagetype=") endpos = rawUrl.IndexOf("&", startpos) + 1 [code]...
