Apr 22, 2010I am wanting to design a web application (ASP.NET with vs 2010 and the 4 framework) that should work on mobile devices web browsers as well. Do I have to write 2 seperate web UI's or can I write 1, that is styled differently for desktop browsing vs mobile browsing? I am new to trying to develope for a mobile device, and a push in the right direction would be a big help. I have googled but must not be using the right terms as what I get is not very good.

Apr 10, 2010This is the first time i am going to develop asp.net web application for mobiles. All these while i thought there are seperate project templates available in VS2008 and VS2010 as i used to see them in VS2003. Now it is missing. I have also seen assemplies(System.Web.Mobile) available in .net framework for mobile based web controls. I googled, i did not find any convincing results :(.
Do i need to use the same Asp.net WebSite template for both desktop browsers and mobile browsers just by considering the screen layout?. that is i should detect if the request is from desktop browsers use one type of layout and other for mobile browsers. If my understanding is right? how do i test those web pages for different mobile models?

1) Can I develop iPhone application on Windows PC with the help of .NET framework? I have heard that if it is required to distribute the app throgh iPhone store, it must be developed on MAC OS.
2) Is there any open source framework that does the same? The purpose is to distribute the application.
3) Is there only one solution - get a intel MAC OS and develop iPhone app on this very machine?

Question 1:
Is it a good idea to start using asp.net MVC which will mean redevelopment of a number of standard controls for not much benefit.
Question 2:
Is it a good idea to hire developers where there most recent skills are with asp.net MVC?
I doubt there is any benefit adopting MVC now, given the 100+ applications in this suite of products, and the maintenance/rework this will cause. Given this, is there any particular reason to hire MVC developers, as they won't be hitting the ground running, which is what I need now.

However, I am brainstorming on possibility of an online application that will allow me to backup my data in nokia set 3110 such as my Address book in the application and restore it. This I want to achieve without connecting my phone to any PC. I am thinking on some way to achieve this by leveraging mobile phone line only. I beleive it may require my application to connect to mobile phone through mobile phone network.
