View 8 Repliesi want to show info like how much time will be requited to download file in client machine. every client will have different internet speed so how can i detect and show time required to download file in client machine. is it possible in asp.net.
View 2 Repliessuppose when user click on link or button for downloading file in asp.net then download start.so i just want to know how to detect that the file as been downloaded in client machine.is it possible to track from server side code. because i want to develop a file download sectionfrom where user at a time can download only single file. so in this case when file download starti will just capture client ip and store it in session and so when user click on another link to download another fileat the same when another file is downloading so in this situation i will check file is downloading from this ip and if yesthen i will reject user request and tell him that sorry already a file is downloading so try after when this download willbe over. when file download will be over then i will clear that session and in this way my purpose will be solved andrestric user to downlolad multiple file.this type of things is used in rapidshare,hotfile etc. so i just implement this
View 3 RepliesWhen calling Response.Cookie.Add(new HttpCookie("MyCookie", "objValue")); where does the cookie saved? on Client Machine or Server Machine?
EDIT:if saved in Client Machine, how can I read it from javascript then? I tried this kind of script.
function getCookie(c_name) {
var i, x, y, ARRcookies = document.cookie.split(";");
for (i = 0; i < ARRcookies.length; i++) {
[code].....
I cannot get the cookie that I saved from code behind. When I look into the document.cookie object, it is just an empty string.
Scenario:On Page_Init() on code behind. I create a cookie using Response.Cookie.Add(new HttpCookie("MyCookie", "cookieValue"));.
On Client side, I'm trying to read the cookie saved from code behind on page load using the snippet above, but it returns undefined

MSDN "ASP.NET Delegation" article tells:
1) "When you configure to use a particular account as the process identity, ASP.NET attempts to delegate that account. If it is a local account that is identical (including password) to a local account on a remote machine, delegation is possible. If such an account does not exist on the remote machine, to the network it appears as the Windows anonymous account (NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON). In addition, delegation is also possible if the account is a domain account that has access to the remote machine, in which case it uses the domain network identity of that account."
The same frequently repeated story as in case of manually/interactively accessing remote computer (server resource) in workgroup - it is necessary to create local account with the same username, the same password. But why?
If a workgroup Windows client process cannot access resources on server machine without having duplicate of such (local) account on target machine already pre-created,does it mean that client (process, machine, or user) can access server resources only by/after having logged (opening logon session) into server machine? Or, how to understand that such access is impossible without having corresponding duplicate local account on server machine?
The same MSDN "ASP.NET Delegation" article tells:
"NetworkService account. It behaves the same as the System account. This account possesses the network credentials associated with the machine account (domainnamemachinename) in the domain of which it is a member"
Does not any Windows have accounts ((NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE)? as well as many other common pre-built accounts? Why are they installed (before any joining to domain) but cannot be used for remote network access and client identification ? And what is identity used when the process from workgroup Windows under identity ((NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE) accesses a remote server?

I have created a CSV file on the server and want to send it to the user using the following code:
Dim strPhysicalPath As String
strPhysicalPath = Server.MapPath( "CSV/" & PathVirtual)
Dim objFileInfo As System.IO.FileInfo = New System.IO.FileInfo(strPhysicalPath)
Response.Clear()
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" & objFileInfo.Name)
Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", objFileInfo.Length.ToString())
Response.WriteFile(strPhysicalPath)
Response.Flush()
Response.End()
This seems to work fine except when the downloaded file is viewed in Excell the html code behind the page from which it came is also appended to the file. Does anyone have any idea why it does this?
Without using fileupload control, what is the way to store a file from client machine to web server.
FYI, a text box has the path the client machine file.
how can i access client machine's specific file contained in a drive or folder.Suppose in Server side i have knowledge of full path of a file that is present in client side, like "D:ABCFolderxyzFile.doc", this is a file that i want to retrieve and store in server side .

We've deployed some reports from a server machine which can be accessed without any problems if you are logged onto the server itself by going to the URL of http://servername/ReportServer. However if we try and access the reports from a client machine (even if we use the same administrator Windows account) we get the Windows security window appear asking for a Username and Password to be entered in order to connect to the server. We've tried entering this but we then just get a blank screen after being re prompted a few times to enter the details.
Now I'm not sure whether this will be a Reporting Services or a Windows issue. Could it be a setting within IIS? It can't really be a user thing as the same user works on the server but not on the Client machine so it's more of a machine problem. It's as if there are some authentication settings somewhere that need to be set.
We are using SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.
i would like to update database which resides on web server from my database which is on my computer. One method is to upload the file and than make a connectionstring. But its not possible while I do so in every 10 secs.

I have deployed a Web application on IIS 6. I want to prevent my server from setting cookie on the client browser. I am using the following setting on the web.config file.
< sessionState
mode="InProc"
cookieless="false" [code]....
However, it looks like its creating a default cookie named ".ASPXAUTH" in the client machine. I dont want my application to create any sort of cookie.Is there anything specific I need to do in web.config?
I'm trying to do the following in ASP.NET (with c#):
1. On page Load, download an XML file from a different website to the IIS server, in a subdirectory of the application directory called "downloadedFiles"
I know that WebClient.DownloadFile() can download a file, but this only seems to download the file to the client's machine. I am interested in downloading it to the actual IIS server (so that it can be utilized throughout the lifetime of more than one session). Does anyone know how this could be performed?
Specifically, I'm trying to download an XML file from a website (as an example: [URL]) . How could I download that XML file onto my actual IIS server?
How do i download a file from server to the client pc using asp.net, im using c# with vs 2005. I have tried with WebCient but it is downloading on the server itself. I want to download a particular file to the client PC.

View 4 RepliesI have the developers edition of sql server 2008 on my local machine (I have an msdn subscription). I would like to download and use r2 client, which I understand is superior to the standard client) but not the express database. Do I want the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools " (doesnt sound like what I want) or the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio Express" (does sound like what I want, and is about 100M smaller, so I assume doesnt load the database). Of course I am assuming that the r2 client connects with no problems to a non-r2 database.

Assume a simple aspx data entry page in which admin user can upload an image as well as some other data. They are stored in database and the next time admin visits that page to edit record, image data fetched and a preview generated and saved to disk (using GDI+) and the preview is shown in an image control.
This procedure works fine for the first time however if the image changes (a new one uploaded) the next time the page is surfed it shows previously uploaded image. I debugged the application and everything works correct. The new image data is in database and new preview is stored in Temp location however the page shows previous one. If I refresh the page it shows the new image preview. I should mention that preview is always saved to disk with one name (id of each record as the name).
I think that is because of IE and other browsers use client cache instead of loading images each time a page is surfed. I wonder if there is a way to force the client browser to refresh itself so the newly uploaded image is shown without user intervention.
I am using the code below to enable clients to download a .csv file from my server.
The problem I am having is that when the file is saved to the client computer the file name is prefixed and suffixed with an underscore which leads to a file type of .csv_ which is obviously not a recognised file type.
How can I strip the underscores from the file name at the transmit stage?
Dim FileName As String = LstBox1.SelectedItem.ToString
Dim FilePath As String = "~/temp" & FileName
Response.Clear()
Response.ContentType = "text/csv"
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" & FileName & "")
Response.TransmitFile(FilePath)
Response.End()
I have to copy a file from client machine to server folder without use file upload control.
i tried with WebClient().Like this
Dim onbjweb As New WebClient()
onbjweb.UploadFile(Server.MapPath(serverpath), "POST", LocalFilePath).
Its working fine in localhost.When its deployed in server its not working.
Now I am printing the data from model in mvc. I am also printing the documents, How I upload file how to print that particular documents which is related that particular user with the other data...
View 1 RepliesI have had a real nightmare with Server.MapPath(). When I call Server.MapPath("~") in my application that is running in ASP.NET Development Server it returns root directory that ends in a back slash like f:projectsapp1, but I call it in published version, installed in IIS, it returns root directory without any back slash like c:inetpubwwwrootapp1.
string mainRoot = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~");
DirectoryInfo di = new DirectoryInfo(mainRoot);
//added to solve this problem with Server.MapPath
if (!mainRoot.EndsWith(@""))
mainRoot += @"";
FileInfo[] files = di.GetFiles("*.aspx");
foreach (FileInfo item in files)
{
string path = item.FullName.Replace(mainRoot, "~/").Replace(@"", "/");
//do more here
