Part Of Template Appears On Every Page - Can't Change
Feb 16, 2010
In my web site in all html pages I call a function in body onLoad event:
<body onLoad="func1();">
This is part of my template for html, so it appears on every page in my site and I can't change that. Now, the deal is that on some pages, I need to call some other functions onload and I tried with window.onload property, but it wipes the calling of func1...
I now that I can just say:
window.onload = func2(); //where func2() calls to func1()
but this seems dirty and lame? Isn't it? So, is there a way to add some functions to those that are about to be executed onload, without deleting the old one?

I have a page with two columns. Initially, the left column will contain a list of links that are article titles. Clicking on one of the links will display the text of the article in the right column, keeping the list of titles in the left column. Clicking on another title will clear the text of the first article and display the second. Is there a way to accomplish this without having to repaint the whole page? I would rather not have the whole page resent each time a title is clicked, but rather have the page stay as is and only the contents of the right column get cleared and redisplayed. I assume there's a way to do this with JavaScript.

My website is made up of .aspx pages.On some pages, an email gets programmatically sent, and I find it most convenient to have.html email templates (which I can edit in Visual Studio) which I load and manipulate programmatically, and then send as the body of an email. The html files are never displayed to users on the site.At the moment, I store these emails in an Email subdirectory of App_LocalResources, as this seemed like the logical place to put them.
But whenever I update an email on my IIS 6 server, then the IIS server shuts down and restarts, stating: Shutdown Message: Change Notification for critical directories.
App_LocalResources dir change or directory rename HostingEnvironment initiated shutdown Change Notification for critical directories. App_LocalResources dir change or directory rename HostingEnvironment
caused shutdown.
I don't want to restart my webserver every time (and lose session information) any time I change one of my email templates.
So where is the best suggested location for storing these .html files, as part of the project?

I'm building an HTML5 application (with ASP.NET back-end) and i want to develop it in such a way that i can run it locally with all my resources (such js and css) not minified (so i can debug it easily). However when i build the final version i want merge and minify the resources. At the same time i want to create several versions of the app targeting different platforms (iPhone, iPad, desktop, etc) by adding appropriate css.
I thought that the final output should be a set of html files (so the get cached nicely). I could use ASPX and just control the output by a query string parameter, but i don't really want to have the form tag on my page.
So the questions are:
What are the pros and cons of using static html pages generated from a template versus a dynamic ASPX page? (apart from being able to run on any web server)
If ASPX approach good enough then how can i get rid of the form tag that's required by ASP.NET?
UDPATE
Another factor in favor of static html pages is the fact that the files are served instantly, whereas ASPX may take awhile to load if the app has recycled.
The back-end is ASP.NET 2.0.

I'm using VS2010 and I'm trying to follow along with these videos:
[URL] and the guy in the video is using Visual Web Developer Express and when he creates a new website it's all nice and simple with a bare bones Default webpage and that's cool. Well, me in my Visual Studio 2010 when I create a new project I get this elaborate "My ASP.NET Application" page with an About page and a Login page and CSS and Jquery and it's just too, too much. Now, of course I could just create an empty ASP.NET application, but that goes too far the other way; I have to start from scratch and add the default page myself and try to reproduce exactly what the code in the video looks like and I can't really see the screen that well. Is there any way I could change my default template to what the gentleman in the video uses?

I am having an issue with people visiting my site using ie8. It appears that some of my pages seem to render, then disappear. It is only happening in IE8. I looked up a few things on the web and found a few bugs within the browser:
http://edskes.net/ie/ie8overflowandexpandingboxbugs.htm
I tried implementing the changes but am still having issues. I suspect it is something within the styles of my controls pages or within the CSS file.

I am working on an ASP.NET web application in Visual Studio 2005. I am using a trace listener to check the values of variables as I test the web application. Every time I publish the web site it overwrites the entire web site so I need to give my log file write permissions for the ASPNET account again. Is there a way to automate this chore as part of the publishing process?

I am not sure what I am doing wrong in how I set up validation on my models and viewmodels. For some reason on several of my views that contain a validation summary, it appears empty on initial load of the page. On some other pages it appears correctly when the form's data is posted and it does not appear on initial load, this is the way that I would expect it to work.
On the views where this is occuring, my viewmodels are somewhat more complex in that they contain another complex type that I am passing around that has it's own set of DataAnnotation Validation properties, but I have called the validation summary like this; Html.ValidationSummary(true) so that those properties are not validated.

I need to print the current page in the asp.net application for that I am using javascript:window.print().
It's working fine when the page content is within the bounds. However, if the horizontal scrollbar appears as a result of overflow, am able to print only the visible content while the overflown contents couldn't be printed.
Is there any workaround to get this working? Is there any other alternative apart from javascript to achieve this functionality?

Is it possible to change the ascx file used by a usercontrol at runtime?
For example in my page i have
<ctl:SampleControl runat="server" />
in the web.config I have
<controls>
<add tagPrefix="ctl" tagName="SampleControl" src="~/UserControls/SampleControl.ascx" />
</controls>
At runtime I would like to be able to change the ascx to another path, it would still be inheriting from the same usercontrol codebehind, it would just be a different template.

In a controller action function, we can add a create/edit/list/details view by right clicking. The content of aspx/ascx will be generated according to selected model.
my question is how to change the template in order to generate my customized create/edit/list/details view.

We have several asp.net web applications we've built and we also want to embed them into various sharepoint pages. We need to have them look like standalone applications when viewed in their own pages, but also have them look like they fit within the sharepoint page when embedded. We are doing this currently with IFrames and it works ok, but I'm wondering if there is some sort of proxy web part where we can configure the web part to point to an existing web app and it will proxy the contents through from the web app into the sharepoint page removing the need for an IFrame. Possible?

When using SPWeb.GetCatalog(SPListTemplateType.WebPartCatalog), it returns an SPList which of course contains a SPListItemCollection of the web parts in the web part gallery. When looping through the items, is there any easy way to get properties of the web parts? Such as AllowClose, CatalogIconImageUrl, etc... I know I can probably accomplish this using the listItem.OpenBinaryStream etc and loading the xml of the .webpart file, but I wondered if there was an easier way to do this.
