Publishing Access Database Reports To The Web
Mar 2, 2010
Client has a bunch of Access databases and associated reports.
He wants to make the reports available (live, not snapshots) via a secure extranet.
He's willing to recreate the reports using a proprietary GUI if necessary, but ideally would like a solution that exports his reports "as is" to the web.
Had a look at Caspio Bridge. It's pretty slick but doesn't appear to offer grouping and summing (key requirement) without a nasty Javascript hack - seems like a rather glaring omission to me!
I'm an ASP.NET developer so if there's coding involved, an ASP.NET based solution would be preferred.

I have a development database and one in production. There are two different sets of data in each database. On my dev system, I have mostly dummy data that I test with and in production is the real data for my web application. I recently added a new feature to the app that required a new table, and a new field for a foreign key in an existing table. I now need to upload that new structure to the production database without overwriting the live data with my test data.
If I run the Database Publishing Wizard, and choose "Schema Only" will it import the new structure and leave the existing data alone, or will it drop the records in my production database tables?

This is what my website looks like:
When I build the website and upload everything as it is, I get this error:
Quote:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) I guess I have to deploy Database, or?

After I successfully installed Database Publishing Wizard [URL], I use it to connect to my local database server using SSMS 10.0 to generate a .sql file but I'm getting this error "This SQL Server version (10.0) is not supported."
Is there any updated version of DPW 1.1 that supports SQL Server 2008?

I'm getting the following error when using the Database Publishing wizard to script a SQL Server Express database for deployment. I have googled for hours unsuccessfully. Anyone had this isssue or know how to solve it?
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.

Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?
Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with
IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.

I can't figure out why it won't publish the database to my hosting account. I have an SQL server set up with a username and password, etc. but I don't understand why it won't connect.
It keeps giving me an "Invalid URI" error. I don't know what to do or what to look for.
I'm just learning ASP.NET and I don't understand what it wants besides what I've given it already.

I am working with a client who wants to make his current MS Access 2007 Reports available on demand in his web site. Currently, as I understand it, the managers of the company are being required to actually load MS Access and the active database to run the reports which exposes all of the data and linked tables to people who have no reason to modify them. So my client just wants them to be able to log into the admin section of the company website and request a report which he has already built in Access. I am trying to figure out how to get those reports to an ASP.NET application for the website to consume.
I have already spent a day looking at the Microsoft.Office.Interop library, and I don't think that that will cut it because I can actually get the HTML for the Report directly out of the application. All I can find is an option to save it to the hard disk which is inelegant and could easily cause problems with filename changes when I try to then load the document from ASP.
What I would like to see is a solution by which I can load the mdb or accdb file into the ASP application, access the Reports as a container and select the one I want by name, and then run it and collect the output in HTML to then simply echo to the webpage. Is there anything out there that can:
// Psuedo-code
Dim AccessFile As MSAccessFileOperator
Dim Reports As List(Of MSAccess.Reports)
Dim htmlResult As String
AccessFile = New MSAccessFileOperator("myDatabase.accdb")
Reports = AccessFile.Reports
htmlResult = Reports("MyReportName").toHTML
I haven't found such a method yet, and I am okay with the idea that maybe it isn't possible to do it that easily, but, at the end of the day, I need the HTML result of the Report to exist in memory as a String.

I have some background in writing reports for Win32 programs using VS 2008. I now have to write a report (which will actually be a billing statement) in ASP.Net. The data for the report will be on an MSSQL server either 2005 or 2010. My question is what is the best way to access that data. I assume there are different methods for doing this. My experience is pretty much confined to ADO net, but I am open to anything that may be better

I'm designing some reports to summarize recently compiled research findings. These reports are going to be posted on an ASP.NET page (via the report control) on the web site. I do not want to authenticate users, as the findings are meant to be public and requiring users to register and authenticate would add a barrier and is likely to decrease traffic.I've seen similar posts where reports are meant to be viewed by everyone on an intranet and permissions could be set using a designated workgroup. I need alternative solutions to the problem of making a report viewable by everyone who visits a site. I'm also currently unfamiliar with Kerberos (and I know that will probably pop up as a potential solution), so if there's a convenient way outside of that it would be great.

provide secure online access to documents and reports for their customers which entails creating a secure login for clients to access PDF documents to view and print. Aslo to display all reports available on web server.ould this be as simple as making sure username & password match an entry in a username table using select parameters(of course) theninstituting a Session("loginokay") = True along with something like Session.Timeout = ?

I have to display data (names) in a random order on the website. The data is stored in a MS Access database. The names must be displayed in a GridView and DataList in different places. I have created a query in MS Access "zorder: Rnd([MarinaAccommodation]![ID])" which works fine in MS Access giving me a different order each time.
The problem is that when I try run it on the website the order remains the same, it does not change each time the page is loaded.

I have a situation where I am accessing a database multiple times and I'm wondering if it is necessary.
I have a GridView with a template column with a hyperlink to "Get Results" and on the RowDataBound event I have it check the batch number against the database and see if results exist and then if they don't, hide the link.
So when viewing the page if there is 20 rows in the gridview it is effectively doing 20 queries.
I was wondering if it is a better idea to query the database once with all "batches" and load it into a datatable, then on the RowDataBound event query the datatable. The only issue I see with this is there is currently 40,000 batches and grows daily.

I have a data type mismatch while inserting into a number field in an access database using a parameterized query.I think this should be pretty simple but I am still learning a lot.
[Code]....
I have some commented out as I am working one field at a time. The working fields are textboxes and the non working ones are dropdown lists. But I think it may be the field that the list is drawing from? Not sure.

When I click on the export button and get the pop-up where you choose the export format....when I choose the Crystal Reports format and click ok,the contents of that pop-up window is now the same as the page where I clicked the export button along with an 'Access Denied' message above the tool bar.
If I choose any other export format,this does not happen and I get the expected dialog where I can choose to open or save the export file.It seems to be a permissions issue, but I can't figure out what CR is trying access that it doesn't have permissions for.
