Retrieve Data From A Web Page
Jan 27, 2010
I’m trying to write a webpage in ASP.net (VB.net preferably), which grabs the source of another site, parses and modifies it, then displays the modified page. Using the code from [URL], I am able to get the source of a webpage, but the particular page I’m trying to get the source of uses meta refresh, so all that I get is ‘<meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=index.php">’. The webpage I’m trying to get the source of requires the user to be logged in, could this be the problem, and if so, how can I resolve this? I can access the page with no problems normally by entering the URL address in the browser and I’m not prompted for a password every time due to cookies, but that same page redirects me when I try to access it via my site.

I have two tables - Advert and Student
adID is the primary key (Advert) and acts as the foreign key for Student
I have two pages, both of which each have a detailsview in insert mode
what I want to achieve is to create a new record in advert.aspx (e.g. adID = 4), then when item is inserted, redirect to page student.aspx (which a student record is created) where the foreign key is the ID from the advert just created (e.g. student.aspx?adID=4).

There is a website which shows history of lottery numbers. I want to retrieve numbers from the page, by using C# Windows or Web program(ASP.NET).There is a problem that, after selecting the week which you want numbers for from dropdownlist, page does not post. Numbers are retrieved by Ajax.
How can I get numbers for all of the weeks by program?

I am playing about just now trying to teach myself a little bit about the entity framework. I have a Gridview data bound to a Entity Date Source using the Entity Framework. If I select certain items in that list I then wish to redirect another page and populate another gridview with just the items selected (but with more detail, different includes/navigation properties)
This is probably the most simple thing but I have spent 2 hours banging my head on the wall trying to get this to work. Essentially I have a continue button which when clicked should identify all the UIDs (a column in the gridview) of the rows and allow me to subset to just these rows and pass them to another page to be rebound to another datagrid

I am creating a web application using c#. I need to access the values available in a barcode scanner and display it in the web page. The user has a Barcode scanner, which contains the Student Id's. The Barcode scanner is connected to the user machine. Is it possible to access the scanner and access the student id available in the scanner and display it in the aspx page. After retrieving the values and displaying it in page, the students id's available in the scanner has to be deleted.

I am trying since more than 5 days to retrieve and display an image in a web page, no success so far.1. I have a table named image, with three fields ImageID, Img_data, Img_contenttype .2. I am able to display the ImageID as a link in my page.3. On clicking the link i am going to my viewImage.aspx?img=ImageID .This far it works ok. ImageID is passing in the query string.4. In this page imageID is being captured from query string and stored in ImageIdview int variable. viewImage.aspx has an image tag to display the image as below.
<asp:Image
id="image1"
ImageUrl='<%# "ViewImageHandler.ashx?imgid=" + Eval("ImageIdview")

I have created an application in asp.net 4.0 and entity framework4 . I have also implemented the routing feature introduced with this version of asp.net.I have page which displays a list of products and the paging is taken care of using datapager control.Now, when the user selects a particular product (using the checkbox provided besides it), I show the selected product's name on top. As the user goes on selected products the product_names are added on top. This functinality I want to achieve using javascript. When the user switches between different pages to select a product the already selected product names should be retained between different pages. I want to implement this whole fuctionality using javascript.My problem is how do I retrieve the page index from the datapager so that I can retain the selected values.Is there any other better way of doing it. I had already faced numerous problems in using javascript because of the routing functioanlity. But still I first want to see if there is a solution using javascript.

I have a web page with a GridView and a table outside the gridview to display more information of the record when it is selected (like record details). I'm using data of five tables for this particularly window. I use one table of the five to bind the gridview the other tables are for the details, but I use like 1 or 2 fields of those tables. I'm binding the page with web services. I need some advice on which is the better way for doing this to make a faster web page.
In sql server I made a view with the five tables (all the tables relations are working perfectly). In the web service I call the view; and in the web page I call the web service to bind the page. Everything is working. All I want to do is retrieve from the server all the necessary data only once when the page loads and bind the five tables data (like 18 fields total) in the gridview which I only show 12 fields the other 6 fields are hidden, those 6 are for the details which I get with jQuery (that's another topic). Bind everything only once and manage the data on client side. Everything is working perfectly. Here is my doubt.
How are the maximum table joins I can make? To retrieve the data via web and not get a server time out error. Which is a better way to make a faster page? Make 2 views one for the gridview and one for the details and put each view in a web service; or make one view with all the table joins and one web service. Right now all is working but I have to make other pages that use different tables and joins and I don't know if the server gets me the time out error when the page is fully working.

What is the easiest way to save form data and retrieve it when the user navigates back to the page?
We have an application process that consists of several web forms. If the user clicks to go back a step we would like to auto-populate the fields. I am assuming there is a common generic way to do this without having to mess with individual controls - what is it?

I have a master page with a form on it. It's a people search form. When the user clicks on the search button it goes to the search results page that uses the same master page. With the code below I get the info off the master of the current page. Howdo I grab that info from the first page?
Here's the code:
Master page:
< FORM id=formEmpSearch method=post action=~/About/peopleSearch.aspx runat="server">
< asp:TextBox style="WIDTH: 153px; HEIGHT: 12px" id=txtSearchName onfocus="this.value=''" runat="server" CssClass="searchBox">

Imports System.Web.UI.WebControls
Partial Class mstrIntranet
Inherits System.Web.UI.MasterPage

End Get
Set(ByVal value)
txtSearchName.text = value
End Set
End Property
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
txtSearchName.Text = "People Search"
End Sub End Class
Search Results Code Behind page:

when I asked recenlty a question about how To retrive a control in a Master Page from Content Page. Many peoples use this code from my Content Page:
Label lbl = this.Master.Page.FindControl("uxLabel") as Label; //Note any server controls defined in the master page could be not be accessible even after a cast is performed, because they could be marked as protected
This approach certainly works, I also realise that is available a strongly-typed solution that doesn't involve casting the Master property.
In the Master Page place:

I've been asked to consolidate a large intranet application. Each page consists of images. What I want to do is write a scraper that will get the image location (simple enough) but I want to be able to save the images on disk in a folder of my choice. For example, if there is an image displayed on a page, I want to take the image file and save it to disk (much like right clicking on an image and then clicking "Save As"). Can anyone give me a pointer in how to do this?

Is it possible to write something like:
<%# Request.QueryString("id") %>
in an .aspx page? generally, I fetch these values from codebehind, but now I need to do in here, like:
<asp:XmlDataSource ID="dsNewsitem" DataFile="~/App_Data/news.xml" runat="server" XPath='/news/item[id = "<%# Request.QueryString("id") %>"]' />

I'm coding an ASP.NET page, with VB code behind. When the user clicks a button on the page, I send them an email with information and instructions. Rather than sending a plain text email, I send a nice, pretty, HTML-formatted one. Right now, I'm doing this in a way that I KNOW will be difficult to maintain. That is, I'm straight up writing out all of the html. i.e.
markup += "<fieldset>"
markup += "<legend>"
markup += "Required Documents"
markup += "</legend>"
and so on. Is there a way to create an aspx page (with vb code behind), and send the html of that page in the body of the email? The information is dynamic, so this pseudo-page would need logic in the on-load event to format the html correctly.
