SQL Reporting :: Dynamically Changing The Path / Data Source For A Reportviewer?

Nov 12, 2010

I have a reportViewer control and I dynamically setting the report path and dataset in the page load event if it is not a post back. This first report displays without issue. However, when I attempt to change the report path / dataset via the onChange event from a dropdown list I get the following error:

A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source "Summary_DataTable1".

This code works fine and the summary report is displayed the first time the page is loaded.

SQL Reporting :: How To Get ReportViewer To Use A Relative Local File Path

Jul 1, 2010

I'm venturing into the world of Microsoft Reporting Services for the first time. So far it's gone pretty well, but I do have a couple of questions. The biggest one is, can I get the ReportViewer to use a relative path to my .rdlc file instead of the full path name that it seems insistent on using? When I'm developing locally oh my desktop, my filepath is c:inetputwwwrootcascadewritingwritingresults.rdlc; however, when I move this to production the filepath will become :websitecascadewritingwritingresults.rdlc. The .aspx page that my ReportViewer is embedded in resides in the same directory as the .rdlc file itself, so I was hoping I could just simply chop off the path altogether and reference the file name, but when I do ReportViewer fusses at me and says it can't find the file.

An error occurred during local report processing.

The report definition for report 'c:inetpubwwwrootCascadeWritingResults.rdlc' has not been specified

Could not find file 'c:inetpubwwwrootCascadeWritingResults.rdlc'.

In case you need/want to see it, my code for the ReportViewer is below:

SQL Reporting :: Dynamically Setting Reportviewer Datasource

Aug 2, 2010

I have a vb.net web site. Currently it is generating reports via ReportViewer. The datasouce for the all reports is set at the deploying of the report.

ReportViewer is configured in the aspx page
<rsweb:ReportViewer ID="myReportViewer" runat="server" ShowParameterPrompts="true"
ZoomMode="Percent" Height="1100px" Width="1000px" BorderWidth="1">
</rsweb:ReportViewer>

I am setting up the ReportViewer using the following code.

Dim _cred As New ReportServerCredentials(Session("_ApplUser"), Session("_ApplPswd"), Session("_ApplDom"))
'Set the processing mode for the ReportViewer to Remote
myReportViewer.ZoomPercent = 100
myReportViewer.Width = Unit.Percentage(100)
myReportViewer.Height = Unit.Percentage(100)
myReportViewer.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote
Dim _SrvRpt As ServerReport
_SrvRpt = myReportViewer.ServerReport
_SrvRpt.ReportServerCredentials = _cred
'Set the report server URL and report path
_SrvRpt.ReportServerUrl = New Uri(Session("_RSConn"))
_SrvRpt.ReportPath = Session("_RSFold") + _rr.Report_Path
myReportViewer.ServerReport.Refresh()
lblTitle.Text = _rr.Report_Title
myReportViewer.ServerReport.Refresh()
myReportViewer.Visible = True

What I want to do is dynamically set the datasource for a report at runtime. That is, I have 2 datasources already configured in my Report Manager. I want to have the vb.net pick which datasource based on a enviornment variable. So, if Env 1, then use Datasource 1 in the Report Manager. Of Env 2 then use Datasource 2 in the Report Manager. I have seen what looks like software for doing this Locally but no for Remote.

Using Object Data Source In 4 ReportViewer?

Nov 22, 2010

I think I'm getting mad here...I thought this should be super simple, but I just can't figure out how to do that.This is what I'm trying to do:I want to create an rdlc report using the ReportViewer control in ASP.NET 4 (VS 2010), and, as its datasource, use a class with some properties.I tried everything I can think of, but I just can't figure this out. All the docs I found state that the object should appear in the DataSource pane of the website, but I can't make it appear there.I would like the fields of the class to appear in the report desiger so I can use them - but I can't do that either.Using the designer, I can only define new dataset - I don't want to use dataset, but business objects!So - how can I do that? Do I have to use some kind of DataSource control? How can I make the report designer know about the business object?

SQL Reporting :: A Data Source Instance Has Not Been Supplied For The Data Source 'report2Dataset'

Jan 6, 2011

I recently started using SSRS 2010 and I didnt come across this issue in 2005 or 2008 versions of reporting services.

I have a report that drills down to child report1 and then that drills down to child report 2 but clicking a field in the report.

When I click on the link on the first report to go to the second report. I get this error message

"A data source instance has no tbeen supplied for the data source ''reprort2dataset"

I am not sure how to handle this error.

All reports run fine stand alone, but when I try to link them up I get that error.

I have a report viewer running the reports in an aspx page.

How To Change Data Source In Reportviewer Control

Mar 17, 2011

I have a reportviewer (Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms) control on my page. All my reports use one data source. I want to be able to let my reports run on a different database when started from my UAT enviroment. So the location of the reports is the same, but the data comes from a different db. I cannot seem to find how this is done, is it even possible?

EDIT: They are server reports on SQL Server . I know you can set the dataset programmaticaly but I just want the reports to point to a different db and leave the rest of the report intact.

ReportViewer Cannot Find Data Source Remotely?

Feb 12, 2010

this is the first time I have tried this so I am probably missing something that is staring me right in the face.

I have an ASP.NET page where the user fills in a request which then emails a PDF rendered from a ReportViewer instance.

It all works fine when I run it locally through the ASP.NET localhost but when I try and run it of the webserver it fails with the following message:

An error has occurred during report processing.Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'.

I can preview the report via the web based report manager via http://servername/reports which works without any problem and using the report editor in VS2005.

I suspect it is something to do with the credentials but I am at a loss. The data source is set with a username and password but this is saved within the datasource.

SQL Reporting :: ReportViewer Data From 2 Possible Sources?

May 27, 2010

I have a ReportViewer control on an ASP.Net page and an RDLC set up that uses a TableAdapter that pulls one record. This works fine.I'd like to have the *same* RDLC use a different TableAdapter (schema of table is the exact same, but may have multiple records). I've tried putting two DataSets in my RDLC and having the code dynamically select which one to use, but it's not working quite right for me.

SQL Reporting :: Mapping ObjectDataSource With Complex Data To ReportViewer And GridView?

Apr 1, 2010

I have a data object where one of the properties is a collection of another data object. I never really figured out how to map this to a GridView, but I came up with a workaround. Now I am stuck and cannot figure out any way to do this in a ReportViewer.

Here is how I solved the GridView issue:

Say we have these objects:

public class BoysWithToys : List<BoyWithToy>
{
}
public class BoyWithToy
{
string FirstName { get; set; }
string LastName { get; set; }
int BoyNumber { get; set; }
List<Toy> FavoriteToys { get; set; }
}
public class Toy
{
int BoyNumber { get; set; }
string Toy { get; set; }
}

What I wanted to do was to map BoysWithToys to the GridView and present one GridView row per BoyWithToy record. Where there was more than one FavoriteToys record I wanted to list them in a bulleted list in the FavoriteToys column. I accomplished this by calling RowDataBound() for the GridView, casting the e.Row.DataItem to BoyWithToy, then looping through all of the FavoriteToys and adding each Toy to a bulleted list, then setting the column's text to that list.

I have no idea how to accomplish anything similar in ReportViewer. If I simply drag the BoysWithToys DataSource to the designer and run it, the FavoriteToys column shows '#Error'.

We're using InProc sessions and the worker process count is set to 1. Has anyone else bumped into this one?

SQL Reporting :: Creating A Data Source To Oracle?

Feb 11, 2010

I'm stumped after a few days of searching and trying to create a Data Source to Oracle for a report under Visual Studio 2005. I followed the guide at

[URL]

I am able to connect through the Server Explorer to our Oracle database using both .NET Framwork Data Provider for Oracle and Oracle Data Provider for .NET. I can execute queries on both of these and retrieve data.

The problems start when I try to create a data source under the Solution Explorer. I have created a Business Intelligence project on my local computer.

Data Source Wizard Select Create a data source based on an existing or new connection. Click New... Here the Provider is disabled and it appears defaulted to SqlClient Data Provider. All I can do is connect to a MSSQL server.

How can I connect to an Oracle database here?

Object Data Source With Reporting Services In Visual Studio?

Oct 12, 2010

I'm working on a site where we want to include a pie chart on a page. Right now I'm working on implementing that through Reporting Services (RDLC file) with an object data source.The SelectMethod of my object data source is a method that returns a list of business objects; lets say a List<Alpha> and Alpha has a sub object Beta with a Name property. In my report definition I have set the Category groups to be: =Fields!Beta.Value.Name this means that Alpha.Beta.Name are my pie slices. I got the following error:

An error has occurred during report processing. The Group expression for the rouping 'chart1_CategoryGroup1' contains an error: Object variable or With block variable not set.I was able to confirm this is because Beta is nullable and was able to fix the issue by updating the object Alpha to return a new Beta() if the Beta property is null. This solution is not ideal though because there are other places in my code where I need Beta to be null if it doesn't have a value yet.Is there a way to update the report definition to accept a null property as valid? Ideally I would like to specify the value as "Not Set" if Beta is null.

Changing Row Height In Excel After Rendering By ASP.Net SSRS ReportViewer

Jan 21, 2010

I have an SSRS report that has a Comments field where there's enough text to span multiple rows per record. It renders fine in the ASP.Net ReportViewer control, but when it's exported the formatting can be different. Exporting to Word it looks fantastic. But exporting to Excel and PDF, the row height for each record is never increased beyond the default, so the text just gets truncated. In Excel I can go in and double-click on individual or multiple row heights to fix them, but this is an extra step we don't want.

SQL Reporting :: Hide ReportViewer Until Render?

Jan 12, 2011

For many of the pages I build, I don't wish to have the ReportViewer visible until firing an event such as a button click. Using .Net 4.0 and ReportViewer10, however, throws the error "Message: Sys.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: panelsCreated[1]" if you try to keep a panel containing the ReportViewer hidden until after a button click.Since I couldn't find much about this topic online, I'd basically been working around this for some time until I figured out today that if you reset the ReportViewer ReportPath in the code behind in the button click (even if it's the same path as in the aspx page), you can successfully keep the ReportViewer hidden until the button click.
