SQL Reporting :: Using Connection Strings In The Report Server Than The Datasource In 2005?
Oct 18, 2010
I am using a datasource in the report server where all the reports use that shared datasource while calling the reports from asp.net pages.
Now, as asp.net pages uses the connection string for the databases which is assigned in the web.config file, i want the reports also use the same connection string because you don't need to change on both places( web.config and report server datasource).
I want to develop reporting service application in asp.net 2.0 with SQL server 2005.
I install sql server 2005 in my remote machine with BIDS. I need to develop reporting service application in my machine i have vs 2005 and sql server express edition.
How to download/install BIDS or Report Builder for vs 2005 in my machine.
I try to connect sql server 2005 through OBDC connection bt i face a error, i face this error
ERROR [08001] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. ERROR [01000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
OdbcConnection conn = new OdbcConnection("Driver={SQL Server};Server=test;UID=sa;PWD=java;");// test is my ODBC connection name string query = "INSERT INTO test VALUES ('" + textBox1.Text + "','" + textBox2.Text + "')"; OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(query, conn); try { conn.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); MessageBox.Show("Record Inserted."); } finally { conn.Close(); }
This seems like a really silly question, but I've had a search around and I can't find anything about this. I've got a DB connection string that I'm creating in my web.config:-
[Code]....
and
[Code]....
but I need this connection to be read only. I've defined all my linq objects with only gets on their properties, and none of my (MVC) repository classes have .SubmitChanges() methods in them so I'm 99% sure the system can't update this DB, but I would also like to set my DB connection to be RO if at all possible. I realise that ideally this should be done at the SQL server end and the user should be made RO, but that (for various reasons, out of my control) can't be done, so I wanted to lock down my connection as the app mustn't write to the DB.
Is there a "readonly" parameter I can apply to the connection string so that it would throw an error or discard the data if any updates were attempted?
I have a drop down with different domains(domain_id column) and a textbox (TextBoxComment) for comments. What I am trying to do is select the area, input a comment, click the button and have it save to the db. My connection string errors on compile.
I have a similar problem. I have one Dynamic Data Website and a thousand databases - one database for each customer. HTe databases have the same schema.
After the users log in I want the Dynamic Data Website to point to a database that belongs to that user.
I am developing a intranet for our company and right now have a problem on loading my report. I developed my report with Visual Studio 2005 and try to load it with Visual Web Developer. I downloaded ReportViewer as well. My database connection is Windows Authentication also. Here is my code in Visual Web Developer:
Imports Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms Imports System.Net Imports System.Security.Principal Partial Public Class ShowReport Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Init ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = New MyReportServerCredentials() End Sub
Private Sub form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles form1.Load Dim strReportURL As Uri strReportURL = New Uri("http://SERVERNAME/reportserver")...........................
I have a C# web service where I need to access a MS SQL DB. I see a way of creating a connection string in IIS and using it in the web application when connecting to the DB. In IIS in Connection strings you specify the name of the connection, server, user n pwd How can I use the name of connection string created in IIS in my c# app.? I am currently using
CustomerInfo customerinfo = new CustomerInfo(); // to return using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection("server=servername; initial Catalog=eostartest; Integrated Security=SSPI")) {...
But I would like to use the name of the connection string created in IIS Connection Strings manager. Do I have to add something in the web.config as well?
I've had to update my datasource as a field on my report has change. he StoredProcedure works just fine. However the report data source WILL NOT UPDATE so I cannot add the new field to the report!
i had the sql 2008 enterprise and i want to go back to sql server 2005 because in 2008 i created new database but when i did some changes in the table , it gave me an eror that i cant save thins and i need to creat new one if some one know what i'm talking aboutif not i need the sql server installation tutorial i tried by myself but probebly i did it wrong and now i cant connect well to the sql
created a data source DS_QCategory that select data from a table but according a passed parameter which is a DDL selectvalue.I write the sql statement like this (select * from myTable where ({fn YEAR(tblarQuestions.QuestionDate)} LIKE (@QuestionDate)))this function will compare only the Year from my full date field with a DDL that include all Years like 2008, 2009, 2010 Then I create a report using reportviewer control and i defined the parameter in the bjectDataSource of the report then I added to my Years list in the DDL something like this "All" to select all data from myTable regardless the parameter so i created another Datasource DS_QCategoryAll to select all data from myTablewhat I need is to change the object data source of my report once "All" is selected: this is my code:
[Code]....
But get this error:
"
A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source 'DS_QCategory_tblarQuestionCategory' "
I am trying to call a reporting services report in Report view if I click ID For example, if I click ID 1001 ..it will pass the parameter 1001 And run a reporting services report in Report viewer on new web page..
How can I do this? Is there a example I can take a look?
I have a class that inherited from object type and has some string properties, also I have a report(.rdcl) that use the fields of that class.I add a webpage in my project, then I drag a reportviewer component into it. then I set the report to my existing report mentioned before using choose report (small arrow). in my page load code behind, I create an instance of that class and now, I don't have any idea how to bind that data.
I am a beginner in using Asp.NET with C# and it is my first time I am trying to establish a connection with an SQL server 2005 database: Here is my simple code to connect to the sql server database,I am getting the text message set in the label. Is my problem in the connectionString ??? how to write it and ow to get the server name and write it correctly ....or how to specify the database name (all path or just database name??)
in my project i am connected to sqlserver.i have created some jobs in sqlserver 2005. there are some stored procedures(sp) present in Ststem Databases->msdb->programmability->storedprocedures->System Stored Procedures.we can use these sp to create or edit the jobs through code(c#).want the connection string to access these sp's.can any one help me.
Exporting Datasource results to excel not just report data.My datasource is a stored procedure that returns a lot of fields that are not on the report itself. I would like the entire result of dataset to export to an excel file if user chooses.
I'm using an ODBC connection to connect a SQL 2005 database to my ASP.NET app in Visual Web Developer Express. I'm finding that the expected functionality that tutorials review does not work for ODBC connected databases the same way as it does for SQL databases created in the Web Developer. For example, I can't use stored procedures because the option to create one is disabled in the Web Developer, and if I create the stored procedure in SQL Server Management Studio Express, it doesn't show up in Web Developer because Web Developer only finds the system stored procedures, not the user-defined ones. I've seen other cases as well where database management options in Web Developer don't work with ODBC databases.
Am I missing something in my setup, or is there an inherent limitation with ODBC connected databases? Or, is this a limitation with using the Express versions of these development tools?
