SQL Server Date Query?

I am new to development and want to know the professional way to deal with dates in SQL Server. In my applications mainly we deal with the DATE datatype and no concern with time part. Also maintaining the format dd/mm/yyyy So for example if I have the table with the following structure.
EmployeeTable
---------------
emp_id int
emp_name varchar(50)
join_date date
and if I want to query "join_date" in between start date and end date and pass the dd/mm/yyyy as stored procedure criteria and want to query.What is the professional way to handle dates? I always convert date in varchar and then do the comparison which I guess is the unprofessional way of doing it.

im trying to retrieve the data of particular day(by input from calendar ex:2/25/2011)
but the column of table in which i have the data is in datetime datatype(ex:2011-02-25 14:02:10.293)
i tried the foolwing query but im unable to retrieve.
SELECT quantity,[saledate] FROM TblSales where [saledate]= '2/25/2011'
but when i try with complete date time ('2011-02-25 14:02:10.293') im able to retrieve.
i wanna have all the data of choosen day(date).

In my database when anyone registers - By default the registration time is saved as UTC universal time zone.
But i want to display everything on the website in (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
I am using this SQL QUERY to display registration date:
SELECT TOP (5) Username, CustomerID, RegistrationDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(12),RegistrationDate,107) FROM Customer ORDER BY RegistrationDate DESC
And, i am displaying it like this:
<asp:Label ID="nameLabeldate" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("RegistrationDate") %>' />
The problem is the output is getting displayed as : 10/20/2010 1:36:01 PM
I know RegistrationDate is datetime stamp that's why i am getting output in this format.
But i want to display RegistrationDate as: Oct 20, 2010 at 1:36pm -> according to (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) ORDER BY RegistrationDate in Desc (top most will be last registered user)

I'm writing a program that records time-in and time-out and I have a problem when trying to retrieve data for a specific date.In the table, the "timein" and "timeout" fields have format of "smalldatetime". To record the timein, I insert the system time (by using System.DateTime.Now) into the "timein" field.I want two types of searches.
1) Search records between a date range
2) Search records for a specific date
For example, First, I want to search if there are any records between 11/2/2010 and 12/1/2010. I will ask user to input "11/2/2010" as start date and "12/1/2010" as end date. I will use Convert.DateTime() methods to convert these two input before put them
into SQL query like:
"SELECT * FROM timesheet WHERE timein BETWEEN Convert.DateTime(startdate) AND Convert.DateTime(enddate)"
The output results do not include the date 11/2/2010 and 12/1/2010. I get only the dates in between. I know that is the limitation of BETWEEN. I wonder if someone has a way to work around this limitation.
Secondly, I want to prompt users to enter a specific date like (11/2/2010) and search the table for rows match that criteria. I can't get this to work. I have tried "SELECT * from timesheet WHERE timein LIKE '%searchdate%'", "......timein = 'searchdate'" but none works.
(I'm using VS 2010 C# and SQL 2008 for this project)

but if there were no "hits" for a particular date range in the last week i only get the dates returned where there were hits. i need to get all the days returned and where there were no results, i need a zero returned.

By right clicking on my database i created a query in server explorer. But where are this query stored can't find them back. I should aspect that their is a folder query's like there is a folder tables but this isn't the case.

I am trying to create statitics for game downloads and am having dificulty with a sub part of my query. the goup by command is not having the disired result and i think i have been looking at it too long to see what i am doing wrong. [Code]....
At the moment it is producing each result in many rows when only 4 rows should appear. its the download column that is doing it. needs to be sub queried or something to display total in relation to month,gameid,userid.

I am trying to display this query result in an aspx page.
It is very slow in loading. Here is the query. The inner query inside the outer quesry is the problem.(Please see the underlined part in the query) - (If I remove that part it is very fast.)

I'm trying to query records from a db using a date. But somehow the db doesn't return records.
The datetime collums have the data stored in this format in the db as datetime :
12-Apr-10 12:45:12 AM
The string a have available is in this format : 12-Apr-10
I need to somehow strip the time part of so i can use my date string in the query.
When i use the below method the database converts the datetime to a rounded date (12-Apr-10 12:00:00 AM).
But when i query for that date i still get no results.
I tried this:
SELECT ID, PerformedBy, SystemId, ServerId, CAST(FLOOR(CAST(CreateDateTime AS FLOAT)) AS DATETIME) AS Expr1, Reason, Action, Summary, EnteredBy,
Collumn1, Collumn2
FROM Changes
WHERE ('Expr1 = '12-Apr-10 12:00:00 AM')
But this way the Expr1 collumn is not recognized.

I am trying to query my datatable for part of 2010 and part of 2011. My datatable returns records if I query 01/01/2010 to 12/31/2010. It fails and returns no records if I query any date in 2011. my 'txt..selecteddate' is a telerik control but that is not the problem. Imagine it as just a textbox or something

This is a query to an old FoxPro database on a server (Same Network). This work in the execution, but just passing the date values as aaaa/mm/dd.On my page when a pass two DateTime Parameters from two TextBox it throw "Unable to recognize the string as a valid DateTime Value"I'm using Ajax Calendar exterder on the textbox to be more specific.Here, (My Country) the format i'm using es dd/mm/aaaaAnd when i select the datepicker it comes in this format, and then a get the DateTime error type.I can get the rows in the query builder just passing the date like "2010/01/15" and "2010/01/30" for example.Hay can i force the texbox to get this format aaaa/mm/dd?
