SQL Server :: Best Way To Implement An Autocomplete For An Address Field

Jul 19, 2010

I have a text box called "Address". I have a fairly large database with containing a table with columns: streetnumber, streetname, predirection, streettype, postdirection. I understand how to use the AJAX AutoCompleteExtender. County, City, State,Zip, Country do not apply to this search.

So I am looking for a good reference or some thoughts on working the back-end portion of this search. I guess some test cases might be a good start:

Valid Input:Orange 12 Orange 12 Orange Ave 12 N Orange Ave 12 N Orange Ave E 12 North Orange Ave East 12 NE Orange Ave 12 NE Orange Ave E South 12 South 12 South St 12 S South Street 12 South South Street South

My thoughts:It seems like the hardest part is going to be parsing the input text into corresponding streetname, pre/post directions, etc. I could just create a regular expression to parse this, but I am worried if that would be too restrive for this search IE:

Search: "12 South" --> "12 South Street" AND "12 South Orange Ave" AND "12 South South Street"

Could I could take advantage of full-text search and just send in the entire input string and see what comes out?

SQL Server :: Convert Label.text To Int / Error Conversion Failed When Converting The Nvarchar Value 'Label' To Data Type Int.'?

Jul 14, 2010

I have been messing about with this for hours surely this should be an easy task ....... I have a stored procedured that creates a invoice on a Quotetable one of the parameters is a output parameter Invoice Number this is passed to a label. (Label1) This works great.

I then need to add items to the invoice on a item table so my next stored procedure should take the value of Label1 and update the foreign key quotenumber on the itemtable with the value from label1.

On the aspx page I have a small section for a gridview which shows the current quote with however many items on it using the control

[Code]....

On the ASP page the control for @Quotenumber = Label1 but I get the following error

'Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value 'Label' to data type int.'

SQL Server :: Convert Date Type In Query Output ?

Oct 20, 2010

In my database when anyone registers - By default the registration time is saved as UTC universal time zone.

But i want to display everything on the website in (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

I am using this SQL QUERY to display registration date:

SELECT TOP (5) Username, CustomerID, RegistrationDate = CONVERT(VARCHAR(12),RegistrationDate,107) FROM Customer ORDER BY RegistrationDate DESC

And, i am displaying it like this:

<asp:Label ID="nameLabeldate" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("RegistrationDate") %>' />

The problem is the output is getting displayed as : 10/20/2010 1:36:01 PM

I know RegistrationDate is datetime stamp that's why i am getting output in this format.

But i want to display RegistrationDate as: Oct 20, 2010 at 1:36pm -> according to (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) ORDER BY RegistrationDate in Desc (top most will be last registered user)

Sql Server - How To Change Type Of Database Field In Mvc Application

Jan 4, 2011

I have an asp.net mvc 2 application with a SQL Server database accessed by the Entity Framework ORM. Now I found out I had used the wrong datatype for one of the fields in the database - int instead of double.

Now, this is not a big commercial application, but it is nevertheless already in use internally in my company. It works fine, but the users would need to be able to enter decimal values rather than just integers...

So my question is, can I change the type of the field after the fact so to speak, and not lose the data already entered? Of course I would have to change the references to this field in the model and everything that references it, but is it possible at all without losing the data?

SQL Server :: SQL Server Float Field To Data Table Double Field?

Nov 3, 2010

I have a SQL Server table with a number of fields that are defined with the "Float" data type. I'm running a simple query to retrieve the data from this table and use it to populate a Data Table in my C#.net application.

I just discovered that the data type of the Data Table fields is Double, not Float as I expected. As such, when I store a value like 0.157 it ends up getting stored like this: 0.15700000524520874

I'm aware that such extra "noise" occurs when such a conversion occurs. My major question has to do with why .Net didn't set the Data Type to Float (ie. Single) when the table was first populated?

Forms Data Controls :: Nested Repeater - How To Get Particular Field Of The Anonymous Type?

Jan 26, 2011

nested repeater like this:

<asp:Repeater ID="repeaterReportListByJob" runat="server" DataSource='<%# GetReportsByJobNID(Eval(Container.DataItem, "JobNID")) %>'>

It seems my Eval(Container.DataItem, "JobNID") is not working and I assume this is because the datasource of the outer (parent) repeater is an anonymous type. So how am I supposed to access a particular field of my anonymous type?
