SQL Server :: Various Data Type Save In One Field?
Sep 28, 2010
I use a ntext data type for all kind of data save in one field, but when i save byte (that converted from image) follwing message is shown "Operand type clash: varbinary(max) is incompatible with ntext". Is ntext suitable for all kind of data type or what will be compatible for all data type support?
I have a variable with a decimal type. When I save this value in the data base, the value is rounded.
For example, in VS.Net I have the value 15.15 and in my data base it was save as 15. Other example, if the value is 88.88 in VS.Net, it is saved as 89 in the data base.
I keep the same decimal type in all the variables in the three tiers of the application.
The field in the database is decimal type too.
What data type do I have to use in VS.Net and in SQL Server database for decimal values? I need a data pression of 4 decimals at least.
I have an asp.net mvc 2 application with a SQL Server database accessed by the Entity Framework ORM. Now I found out I had used the wrong datatype for one of the fields in the database - int instead of double.
Now, this is not a big commercial application, but it is nevertheless already in use internally in my company. It works fine, but the users would need to be able to enter decimal values rather than just integers...
So my question is, can I change the type of the field after the fact so to speak, and not lose the data already entered? Of course I would have to change the references to this field in the model and everything that references it, but is it possible at all without losing the data?
i am facing the following problem while saving the viewstate on the server side using the savepagestatetopersistencemedium, but this is not working for the pages which contains update panel.
I have the following problem: I need to store in MS SQL Server 2005 a vary large text in to one field of type nvarchar(MAX), In spite of the configuration is apparently correct I keep receiving the following message in the exception: "string or binary data would be truncated".
I have a SQL Server table with a number of fields that are defined with the "Float" data type. I'm running a simple query to retrieve the data from this table and use it to populate a Data Table in my C#.net application.
I just discovered that the data type of the Data Table fields is Double, not Float as I expected. As such, when I store a value like 0.157 it ends up getting stored like this: 0.15700000524520874
I'm aware that such extra "noise" occurs when such a conversion occurs. My major question has to do with why .Net didn't set the Data Type to Float (ie. Single) when the table was first populated?
I have an Output clause in a SQL statement and I use getutcdate() for a record. Does UTC record seconds? If so, how do I display it? What data type should I use for the UTC field?
I was thinking about the fastest way to retrieve a "set" of objects related to a specific user. For instance, if I was to create a website similar to Flickr where people upload lots and lots of photos(jpegs) what would be the fastest way to be able to retrieve those photos from the SQL Server database. Scenario 1: You store metadata about each file they upload to the website as a single row in a database table. Then when you want to retrieve a specific users uploaded files you simply scan the database file for every row matching the UserID and store them in memory.
This, of course, gets all the information about all the photos a single user has uploaded. My concern with this approach is when the user activity goes from a few thousand to being in excess of a million.
This approach seems fine for a small website but does this method work for a million plus user website like Flicker or MySpace? When you have a million users and millions more photos does this approach still perform at acceptable speeds?
create a collection in memory of "ALL" the PictureIds' for a single user and store them in-memory, in a collection and then save this collection as a single VARBINARY(MAX) field in the SQL Server Database. So instead of having to find multiple records in the Photos database you would simply need to find one, which would include all the PhotoIds' that belong to the user. In essence, translating into the phrase, "If you find one, you have found them all". And improving server performance by leaps and bounds. I only have about a year experience in working with SQL Server and ASP.NET so Im not sure if this solution is practical, if its already been tried, if it can be done.
It seems my Eval(Container.DataItem, "JobNID") is not working and I assume this is because the datasource of the outer (parent) repeater is an anonymous type. So how am I supposed to access a particular field of my anonymous type?
I have an application that I would like to be able to allow the user to modify multiple characteristics of each record within a datagrid.
Most characteristics require data to be entered in a text box but some a check box would be more appropriate.
My question is does a gridview column need to have all the same item template controls? or could I read from the database the control type and dynamically alter the template control for each row as it loads?
I have a custom user control which contains a asp hiddenfield object. The value of this hidden field is being set using javascript and I have verified that the value is being set properly. When a postback occurs the new value is not being saved and I cannot access it in my code.
I believe the problem is because the user control is not saved in viewstate and therefore the hidden field value is not saved accross postback. How can I make the hidden field save its value? I tried accessing it from the early page cycles and still no luck.
I've tried to override error message when input incorrect data type in input field on HTML form. For example I have the model like this.
public class Person { public string FirstName {get;set;} public int Age {get;set;} }
For view, I put text input for Age to get it value. When type some string in Age text box like 'test' and press submit button. I got this error message ,The value 'xxx' is not valid for AgeHowever, I want to change this message and try many way. There 's nothing effect this message value.
I have a data type mismatch while inserting into a number field in an access database using a parameterized query.I think this should be pretty simple but I am still learning a lot.
[Code]....
I have some commented out as I am working one field at a time. The working fields are textboxes and the non working ones are dropdown lists. But I think it may be the field that the list is drawing from? Not sure.
I'm building an ASP web app that stores appointment times; it'll be used in different timezones. I'm currently saving an appointment in the database as a datetime field. Do I also need to add a field to save the timezone ? What's the best option to solve these multi-timezone issues?
While exporting the html to Excel using Response.Write() in ASP.NET and when I try to save as the exported file I'm getting the default save as file type 'Web Page *.html, *.htm in excel application. Is there an any fix to get the default save as file type as xls or xlsx?
