I am trying to import the SQL file provided by Elmah into my application, and I don't want to import it into the development machine I use. I want to make it a .mdf file so it can be easily transported to my host. I was wondering if there is a way to do this?

I am trying to conect to my SQL Server 2008 instance from application in Visual studio unsuccessfully.
This how my Instance appears in SSMS

Below is an example of a connection string from the book I am following which works if you have SQLExpress on your localhost domain.
I am using SQL Server Enterprise My Server name is DETERMIN (computer) . When I am in SSMS this is how my instance node appears
DETERMIN (SQL Server 10.0.4000 - balloonshop )
Determin is the name of my computer I think its the name of my instance as well not sure, balloonshop is my login. How can I substitute the names properly for the connection string below in order to connect to my instance

I am working on an application that has several user controls (.ascx) of which I do not want to give away the code of. I have tried to search about it, but didn't get very far. View 2 RepliesI'm using an ODBC connection to connect a SQL 2005 database to my ASP.NET app in Visual Web Developer Express. I'm finding that the expected functionality that tutorials review does not work for ODBC connected databases the same way as it does for SQL databases created in the Web Developer. For example, I can't use stored procedures because the option to create one is disabled in the Web Developer, and if I create the stored procedure in SQL Server Management Studio Express, it doesn't show up in Web Developer because Web Developer only finds the system stored procedures, not the user-defined ones. I've seen other cases as well where database management options in Web Developer don't work with ODBC databases.
Am I missing something in my setup, or is there an inherent limitation with ODBC connected databases? Or, is this a limitation with using the Express versions of these development tools?
We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum

View 3 RepliesI am working on my first ASP.NET Website using VWD and C#. I did some inital design with Expression Web 4 such as created a master page with 2 content place holders, 2 style sheets 1 for the layout and 1 for the nav menu, and some images in a folder. I started with an empty ASP.net site opened my masterpage and saved it to the VWD directory. Now my Solution Explorer contains a MasterPage and a webconfig .cs file. I would like to import the style sheets and images I mentioned earlier but I am not sure how to accomplish this. do I have to open and save as all these items or can I impot them? Do I use the ADD NEW Item command?

Im having a strange problem which i never experienced before, the problem is my visual web developer 2005 express edition is not getting attached to the debugger, i mean when im running my web application it is not debugging the program if im putting any breakpoint, more over i uninstall and again installed visual web developer it worked fine for first time but again it is not working. i only difference is i have Internet explorer 8.I dont exactly know the problem. does any one faced similar problem
View 1 RepliesI uninstalled VWD 2010 Express Beta2. Then installed latest Release(April 12th) via Web Platform Installer .oh yes after installing XP Service Pack 3.
It all installed successfully and when I start the VWD 2010 express image comes up ....there is this fine text that says....
"For Evaluation Purpose Only"
"Use of this software should be limited to evaluation purpose only"
Being confused with that message I looked at Help->About VWD 2010 Express and right on top it says:
"29 days remaining"
So what's happening ? Did I install some wrong product... I don't think so...I used Web Platform Installer and yes it is "Visual Web Developer 2010 Express" and not a Professional Trial software.
With VWD 2008 it says "This product is licensed".
I'm totally new to ASP.NET ( as a VC++ 6.0 engineer ), I have just downloaded the express edition of 2010 web developer and cannot find for the life of me the correct project template to create an ASP.NET webservice.. in 2008 it appears there is an option for this .. however I cannot find it in 2010..

View 2 RepliesI have a form that I'm working on in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I have a dropdown list to choose a data from the database. I want to use the chosen list item to populate a GridView object. This seems like it should be a simple thing to do.I have a data connection which uses a fixed SQL statement to populate the dropdown list and that works fine. I can select an item on the list and retrieve the correct information for the next query (namely an ID value for the next SQL statement).I have the data connection with another SQL statement to populate the gridview and that works fine. The gridview is currently just showing the entire dataset (it doesn't use the item that was selected in the dropdown list.Now I want to change the gridview's data connection to use the selected item in the dropdown list as a parameter to modify the SQL statementWhen I look at the properties of the data connection for the gridview data, I can bring up the Query properties and see the select statement. I also see the properties panel. I can add a property Name (Mine is "ID"). I then chose "Control" in Parameter Source and selected the ControlID for the dropdown list that has the ID information that I want to use for the parameter. I went into the advanced properties and modified some of the information because the ControlID is a Text field and the Database Column is a BigInt.My select statement looks like this:

I know the learning curve may be steep, but we want to do this right. What is best software for us to purchase from a professional developer point of view? We have used Dreamweaver for PHP in the past a bit. We are proficient in HTML and CSS. I know EW, VWD and VS can all get the job done, but what are best options that a beginner can start with and work up to advanced. Maybe some drag/drop database functions like CRUD, user authentication controls, etc.. We need an easy way to pull data from database fields. Ideally a solution that works with SQL and also MySQL would be best if that is possible. We need something more advance than the old Frontpage days for sure. Also, what are main difference between Visual Web Developer Express, Visual Studio and Expression Web? We just build dynamic websites and have no need for software development.

1. I've downloaded free Visual Studio C# 2010 Express and Visual Studio Web Developer 2010 Express
2. I've successfully installed these versions.
3. I've tried registration online - and got the appropriate keys which I've used for registration.
Finally all the keys I've got are not valid for the system - and after 30 days evaluation (for free version?) period all these products are not running anymore because all the keys I am providing from online registration are invalid.
