Sep 16, 2010

When I connect to my SQL Server from a ASP.NET application I get a error like Error to connect user 'IIS [App Pool User]' to SQL Server. It's easy to give permitions to that user, but I want the SQL Server to be logged on with the ASP.NET page User Login and not da Application Pool User. It is. if the user DomainUser1 gets logged in. All the SQL Transactions made by DomainUser1.

DataSource Controls :: Cannot Connect To Sql Server 2008 Database In VS - Login Error

Jan 8, 2010

I started a new Sql Server 2008 with mixed authentication Windows and SQL SERVER AUTh... I created a new login account and use it to directly connect in SQL server managment studio BUT... when i create in VS2008 the connectionstring... everytime i try to open the DB connection i take an exception to the login... some screenshots show all the process ;)

LOGIN: admintvmaismais
PASSWORD: ex
Working to connect in SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT...
LOGIN STATUS ON SQL SERVER MANAGEMENTE

Now in VS2008 Web-Config I declare the connectionstring:

<connectionStrings>
<add name="SqlConnectionString" connectionString="Server=JP;Database=tvmaismais;User ID=admintvmaismais;Password=ex;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
and When i try to open a connection like this:
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SqlConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
try
{
conn.Open();
...
}
catch (Exception e)
{
retorno = e.Message.ToString();
}
finally
{
if (conn.State == ConnectionState.Open)
conn.Close();
conn.Dispose();
}

I get this exception: Cannot open database "tvmaismais" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'admintvmaismais'. What am I missing? What do i need to do, to get this login to work?

SQL Server :: TCP Error When Connecting To SQL Server Via User Control

Feb 4, 2011

We have a MOSS 2007 custom web part based on a user control that queries a database cluster. When the connection to the database is made, we regularly experience the error below and have had to create a work-around in the code to retry the connection. We have 3 environments - development, staging and production; the error only occurs in production. The difference in the production environment is it is a farm with 3 WFEs and a SQL cluster, where development and staging are single machine instances. All are MOSS 2007 & SQL Server 2008. We cannot find what is causing this issue and I'm hoping someone else has experienced a similar problem and knows the cause.

This is the error that occurs frequently when the query is executed:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.WriteSni()
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ExecuteFlush()
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.TdsExecuteRPC(_SqlRPC[] rpcArray, Int32 timeout, Boolean inSchema, SqlNotificationRequest notificationRequest, TdsParserStateObject stateObj, Boolean isCommandProc)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteScalar()
at [Our Namespace.OurMethod](String someParam)

More than one method will generate this, but this is typical code, note the retry work-around:
public static DataTable OurMethod(string someParam) {
const string query = "sp_OurStoredProcedure";
var resultsTable = new DataTable();
var connection = new SqlConnection { ConnectionString = OurDatabaseConnection };
var command = new SqlCommand(query, connection) { CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure };
var dataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(command);
var retry = 5; SqlConnection.ClearPool(connection);
while (retry > 0) { try { command.Parameters.Clear();
command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@someParam", someParam);
connection.Open(); dataAdapter.Fill(resultsTable); retry = -1;
} catch (Exception ex) { retry--; if (retry <= 0) {
LogError("Exception: DataAccess:OurMethod: *RETRIES EXCEEDED* " + ex, "error");
} else { SqlConnection.ClearPool(connection);
LogError("Exception: DataAccess:OurMethod: ATTEMPTS REMAINING " + retry + ". " + ex, "warning");
} } finally { dataAdapter.Dispose(); command.Dispose(); connection.Dispose();
} } return resultsTable; }

Security :: Allow Clients To Login To Website And Connect To Specific Server Based On Login

Jul 5, 2010

We have created a windows application which is distributed amongst our clients. The application uses SQL Server 2008 as the back end and each client uses their own database on their own server. The databases are all exactly the same but each clients data is specific only to them.

We would like to offer our clients the ability to log-in to our website which would then login to their own database so that when they are out in the field they can perform similar tasks to what they can do with the windows app.Each of the clients databases has a user table containing their login details, permissions etc.

Our server is running on IIS and has SQL Server 2008 installed but it only contains our data and nothing of the clients.How should we go about this?

What I mean is do we need to make each client have an additional login to our main server which would then hold each clients individual connection strings etc which would then be used to connect to there specific database and then they would need to login again?? Seems like a nightmare for the user.

SQL Server :: Login Failed For User 'SERVERLogin Name?

Mar 28, 2011

I'm carrying out a lot of db updates in succession - bulk inserts, bulk updates, deletetions, and other smaller read/write operations. There can be as many as 80 calls to stored procedures in succession, with a few SqlBulkCopy operations thrown in. It isn't possible to reduce the number of operations further. I'm testing on localhost at the moment.

Intermittently, I'm seeing the error:

"Cannot open database "database_name" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'SERVERLogin Name'"

It is not a permissions issue, as the same user is used throughout all operations and the error occurs at different stages each time the routine is run. I'm closing (not disposing) the db connection after each procedure. I've set the CommandTimeout to a more than sufficient period.

Should have mentioned: I'm calling these SPs from a Windows Forms app...

I am using Sql Server 2008 to connect to a Remote Server. Everything was working fine for the last couple of months, and i was successfully connecting to the remote server. Today it suddenly stopped connecting to the remote server. note that i did not alter any configuration settings. Did my isp block Sql Server. My ISP is using ISA SERVER? The error details are:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) I am using Microsoft Firewall Client For ISA Server for opening ports. Security :: Login Failed For User ' Only With Parameterized Query Using SQL Server Authentication

Nov 29, 2010

I've narrowed the problem down to the following:

Receive "Login failed" for user ASPNET error message SQL Server 2005 is db and IIS is web server (both on same computer) Mixed authentication used on SQL Server I have created user ASPLogin with password that is correctly typed int the web.config:
add
name="masterConnectionString"
connectionString="Data
Source=computernameGMOSERVER;Initial Catalog=Portal;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=ASPLogin;Password=password" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
/>

I am able to access my webpages that query the database as long as they are not parameterized.However, the parameterized queries (e.g., SELECT * FROM SUPP_DASH_RESULTS WHERE organization_code = @orgcode) are the ones that do not work, and give me the "Login failed" error message

DataSource Controls :: Unable To Connect To Local SQL Server - Named Pipes Error, Server Is Not Listening On Shared Memory?...

Mar 23, 2010

I am unable to connect to my local instance of SQL Server 2008 Express using SQL Server Management Studio.I believe the problem is related to a change I made to the connection protocols. Before the error occurred, I had Shared Memory enabled and Named Pipes and TCP/IP disabled. I then enabled both Named Pipes and TCP/IP, and this is when I started experiencing the problem.

I have now set Named Pipes and TCP/IP back to disabled. When I try to connect to the server with SSMS (with either my SQL server sysadmin login or with windows authentication), I get the following error message:

"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)"

My first question here is: why is it returning a Named Pipes error? Why isn't it using Shared Memory? It seems like it is not listening on Shared Memory for some reason?When I set Named Pipes to enabled and try to connect, I get the same error message.My windows account is does not have administrator priviliges on my computer.

Security :: Why A Forms-authenticated User Needs To Login Again To Role Subfolders In An IIS Server Environment

May 7, 2010

Followed the code sample of Chapter 10 (Logging in) of the Book, Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0, I created an ASP.NET 3.5 website with Forms Authentication. The sample code used Website Administration Tool (WAT) to manage the users, roles, and authorization.When running in the ASP.NET Development server environment, I can first login, then click to open the links for each for the 3 roles.

However when running the sample code in the IIS server environment, I can login but can not open the links for the role subfolders.Clicking each link popped up an error message for opening a login.aspx from the specific subfolder. I don't have a Login.aspx file in each subfolder.The 3 role subfolders were configured as the virtual folders in the IIS Server. Why the sample code worked fine inASP.NET Development server environment, but got an error message from theIIS Server environment? Why an authenticated user can not open the subfolder homepage?
