DataSource Controls :: The User Instance Login Flag Is Not Supported On This Version Of SQL Server
May 20, 2010
I have never created my own solution before now. I have always modified existing solutions and know how to do it. For some reason, this new solution isn't connecting to my SQL server correctly.
I am using VWD 2008 Express Edition.
I have MSSQL 2008 Developer Edition.
I have used aspnet_regsql.exe to create the tables in my SQL DB.
I have added the following to my webconfig:
[Code]....
But for some reason, when I try to use the Web Site Administration Tool it thinks it is not setup.
I'm trying to implement a regular ol' out of the box asp.net login system on SQL Server for the first time ever, and it's giving me way more grief than I ever imagined. Everything works great on my local asp.net testing server, but I can't get it working on the web server. I just get the generic- Server Error in '/' Application. A tech at my host mentioned that he thought that it was because I was using an ASPNETDB.MDF file created in SQL Express 2008 on a SQL Server 2005 server. I makes sense but I've seen a half dozen or more possible solutions in the many hours/days I've spent researching this but I hadn't heard of that one.
I have Visual Studio 2008 installed on this workstation with SQL 2000, 2005 Express, 2008 Express and I think 2008 R2 (not sure if that is a version itselve or not)
I will call that workstation HOME
I created some tables in SQLEXPRESS through VS2008.
I worked on this project on another workstation that I just installed VS2008 annd SQLEXPRESS 2008 and I know that was R2
Installed Visual Studio 2010 trial edition between the thiem I made the tables on HOME and tonight for the first time since that install
I am now getting the "cannot be opened becuase it is version Version 661. This Server supports version 655..."
What to do now?
I can opened SQLExpress 2008 management studio and it is running.
So is my SQL 2000. The problem seems to be that after the VS2010 install neither VS2008 or VS2010 can connect to the SQLExpress 2008
What do I do now?
I can't remove sql 2000 because it is tied to several 3+ gig databases that will not work in Express.
while i was using sql server authentication, it was running a quite good but suddenly it starts showing an error 'Login Failed for user sa'
Here is my error-Login failed for user 'sa'.
Description:An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'sa'.
I am trying to use Windows Authentication in my asp code. I have read / tried all answers on the web but couldnt my page to connect to sql. I m using classic asp.
My conn string looks like :
OCONN.OPEN ("PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB; DATA SOURCE myserver; INITIAL CATALOG=nrth; Integrated Security=SSPI; trusted_Connection=yes")
but I mgetting error
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.error '80004005'
How to find which version of the Sql Server install into your system,I am running Windows Vista Home Premium(32 bit operating system) , when I try to install Sql Server 2005 Stand edition on my laptop ,it's shows some compatibility issue.
I just ran a project that I've been working on and the project couldn't connect to the sql server engine. This project worked fine yesterday. This morning I installed the new Adobe Flash player 10.0. That's the only thing that's changed sine I last worked with my project.
I got an exception for the sql server error when I run my app. This is the exception from the app:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I tried to connect to the engine with the ssms but couldn't connect that way either. This gave me an error that said:TITLE: Connect to Server
I am having trouble installing SQL Server on my system ... it appears to install ok but when I try to connect it using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 it will not connect and mentions something about versions. I downloaded the Northwind database to carry on with the tutorials .. this also asked me to download the MS SQL 2000 version which I tried and this also did not work, other versions include 2005 and 2008. When I tried to open the program through the programs file from "Start Menu" only the configuration manager folder is there.
I have also tried to install the trial version from the website but to no avail. Each time I have restored to factory settings on my laptop and it still fails to connect. I notice that when I restore to factory settings there are loads of icons where the uninstall window lists all of the programs and there is still SQL Server 2008, lots of Icons. I think that version 2008 came with the laptop as it is a business sony vaio sr vgn-sr46gd model with vista business.
I'm running SQL Express 2005 on an SBS 2003 Standard Server and I keep getting this error back.A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 28 - Server doesn't support requested protocol)
I've uploaded my project to this same server, and I've so far checked that TCP/IP has been enabled for this instance, I've checked the IPs are relevant, I've checked that the connection string is correct, and I've even set a dynamic port number as I've noticed that SBS runs 2005 databases for Sharepoint and Monitoring.
Interestingly enough, I can connect to this instance via Visual Studio on my remote machine, and SSMSE and also via SSMSE on the server as well? The connection string i'm running with is:
Data Source=localhostVDSSQL;Initial Catalog=myDB;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=SA;Password=***
I am working on sql server 2000.I have only one instance running on SQL SERVER 2000.I have the instance name as 'ashvinDIT0934/sys07DIT' registered somehow. But i need to have it simply as 'mycompanyname' (no changes but as 'mycompanyname'). how i could change it and have the instance name changed. The instance name that i have given above i.e (ashvinDIT0934/sys07DIT) when inserted into the connectionstring does not work.It says as invalid escape sequence. So hence i need to have it as 'mycompanyname'
i installed both of VS2008 and VS2010 on my laptop.when i want to connect sql bank 2005 i got this error http://uploadpic.org/showpic-42108/untitled_1.jpgi installed SQLEXPR for windows 7 64bitbut it didn't work. there is nothing istance of sql 2005 in SQL Server Configuration Manager
Microsoft sql server error 18456 in sql server 2008 r2login failed for user sasql server was working properlyi just restarted the system and then i started getting the above errorhow do i resolve iti am able to login with windows authentication but not sql authentication....
my web-app working well locally, but since i uploaded it and my DB, i keep receiving this Error :
Login failed for user 'XXXXX'.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'XXXX'.

I checked my Username , Password and its Permissions for thousands time, and everything seems to be alright. I developed the Website by ASP.Net / C# (VS2008) and SQLServer2008 and I guess the problem is with ConnectionString, below you can find my ConnectionString:
I have 3 virtual computers (Windows 2003); domain server, database server(name=SQL2000), application server(name=2003APPSERVER).SQL2000 is hosting Sql Server 2000, in mixed authentication mode 2003APPSERVER is hosting IIS 6 and asp.net 2.0 Both servers are in the same domain - IAW The application pool (for the asp.net application) in IIS is operating under the 'Network Service' identity.I have created a new login to the database - 'IAW2003APPSERVER$' (see -
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998320.aspx#paght000015_sqlserver).I have assigned this login as a user in the 'demo' database with the db_owner role.I can connect from my asp.net application using an sql login and credentials (different account [obviously]).But when I use this connection string I get "Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection".
Having done some reading including here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889615 and here http://forums.asp.net/t/1140981.aspx. I cannot see what I am doing wrong.SQL server authentication is set to mixed I am connecting (or trying to) to a windows user not an SQL server login The user has sufficient privileges in the database.
i have an asp.net project in vs2010 i have a db and table inside the app_data folder, i have created a deployment package and have imported the package into an iis server that is installed on my local mechine. now i get this error message while trying to preform an insertion.
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed the connection string is:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|survey.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
I am using Asp.Net MVC 2.0 for creating a user and assigning properties to the user at the same time. I am using my Windows account to access database on my local computer. I am using pre-installed MVC code o create a user with unique user name and password. User is created OK. Then I want to add profile properties like First and Last name at the same time.
where profileInformation is a RegisterModel and has user info.
When I am trying to:
profileBase.SetPropertyValue(.....);
I am getting the following error # 2147467259 A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"}
Why is my connection string works fine the first time and not working now? And how to configure connection to use TCP-IP?
I have SQL Server Browser running ander Local account and openned port in my Firewall.
ASP.NET 4.0 comes up with a bulk of noticable improvements , including freshment of LINQ to Entities model. Other than this , I still remember another .net built-in ORM framework "LinqToSQL" which provides a lighter and more direct way to interact with SQL-server based db system. However, it seems no term concerns "Linq to sql" in .net 4.0 pulication announcement. So I think it might be deprecated in the furture due to .Net team's plan. I wonder if .NET team decide to just choose entity framework to fully serve as the .NET official ORM implement and no longer develop 'LinqToSQL' . Is LinqToSQL really an attemptive speck and not worth holding in the furture?
There's an issue I'm having in several areas of my ASP.NET site, but am using the following as an example. If I can get it solved, then I'm reasonably sure it has applications elsewhere.Let's say I have a gridview based on the aspnet_membership table. Its LINQ datasource is aspnet_membership, which exists in my datacontext.By itself, it works GREAT in the grid. However, showing UserId in and of itself doesn't have much meaning; I wanted to include UserName. So, in my Public Partial Class, I created a read-only property UserName:
[Code]....
This retrieves and displays the correct data, no problem there. However, I'm not able to sort on that new column. When I attempt to do so, I get the following error: The member 'aspnet_Membership.UserName' has no supported translation to SQL.A workaround is, of course, to use a Sql datasource. But as I'm learning more about LINQ and the partial classes, I want to learn how to do it the correct way.
