SQL Server :: Simultaneously Connecting To Db With VS, Website And SSMS
Aug 27, 2010
I have recently combined my aspnet membership database and main website database into one database file, I'm happy with the schemas, stored procedures etc. (This is a development project not yet a production project.)
My problem is that I can no longer simultaneously connect to the database from Visual Studio if a user is logged in to the website.
EG:
Scenario 1: No user is logged in to the website. I can go to the Data Connection window in VS, choose "Add Connection" and then inspect the contents and schemas of the database. This is fine.
Scenario 2: A user is logged in on the website. I try to connect to the website in VS and get the error:
"Cannot open user default database. Login failed. "
Scenario 3: I am connected to the database in VS and nobody is logged into the website. If someone tries to log into the website they get the following error:
Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
So it seems from the above that there can be only one connection to the database at a time? However this was not the case before I combined the membership database with the main website database. I could always make changes as a user logged into the website and at the same time see those changes through the connection in Visual Studio.
I am unable to restore database in form of .bak files using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. It gives following error message:
Too many backup devices specified for backup or restore; only 64 are allowed. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I am playing around with WebMatrix ans SQL CE 4.0. I wanted to load up a SQL CE V4.0 db from an Access db.
Tried to connect SSMS Exp to SQL 4.0 sdf file (created in WebMatrix starter site template) and was rejected with the following error that SSMS Express is not yet "aware" of SQL CE V4.0):
Cannot connect to C:Users....App_DataStarterSite.sdf.
This is not a valid SQL Server Compact Database file or this file version is not supported by current SQL Server Compact Engine. (SQL Server Compact ADO.NET Data Provider)
[code]...
The sdf file is "a valid SQL Server Compact Database file" - it works fine in WebMatrix.
What do I need to do to make SQL CE 4.0 files kosher for SSMS Express? The error messages suggest that I need to update the SQL Server Compact ADO.NET Data Provider, however I might do that.
I'm having difficulties with a clean SQL Server 2008 + SP1 (64 bit) install. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with VS2010. The Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (KB968369) is installed via Windows Update. I installed SQL Server Management Studio (64 bit) via the Microsoft website. When I open SSMS and try to login with Windows Authentication to (local)/localhost/[computername] I get the following error:
[Code]....
I don't understand this because I opened the inbound/outbound ports for 1433/1434. As wel as inbound/outbound exceptions for the programs
If I install SSMS 2008 as a client tool (on my workstation at my company) to access to SQL Server 2008 Production, do I need to buy a license for SSMS 2008?I found out that SSMS 2008 is free but not sure if it's for development only.
After I successfully installed Database Publishing Wizard [URL], I use it to connect to my local database server using SSMS 10.0 to generate a .sql file but I'm getting this error "This SQL Server version (10.0) is not supported."
Is there any updated version of DPW 1.1 that supports SQL Server 2008?
It works perfectly the first time I install SSMS 2008 Express and I can access my remote database. But, after I restart my machine and open an instance of SSMS the database node is missing.

I tried refreshing the database folder but still nothing. I even uninstall but it's still the same.
Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. I have set up a db locally which mimics the production DB, THe production db and website has no has no issues.
THis used to work till i had hard disk failure and had to reinstall all software and do the db from scratch. Used the table scripts and ran the aspnet_regsql. I am using sql server express 2008 asp.net 3.5 I am using custom provider for Roles and custom membership provider for Memberships. Pretty sure the problem is in the db permissions, though I have set up Users in the Security of the DB.
While working with LINQ to ENTITIES I see that there is only a way to use stored procedure that is returning one entity only, or a view that is a join of two entities.
But what if I need in ASPX page to get two tables that there is NO connection between them, no join can be done between them at all.
I have one Stored Procedure that return the two tables, but entities don't support this right now.
I can split them to two Stored Procedure and call each of them separately.
We have a MOSS 2007 custom web part based on a user control that queries a database cluster. When the connection to the database is made, we regularly experience the error below and have had to create a work-around in the code to retry the connection. We have 3 environments - development, staging and production; the error only occurs in production. The difference in the production environment is it is a farm with 3 WFEs and a SQL cluster, where development and staging are single machine instances. All are MOSS 2007 & SQL Server 2008. We cannot find what is causing this issue and I'm hoping someone else has experienced a similar problem and knows the cause.
This is the error that occurs frequently when the query is executed: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.WriteSni() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ExecuteFlush() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.TdsExecuteRPC(_SqlRPC[] rpcArray, Int32 timeout, Boolean inSchema, SqlNotificationRequest notificationRequest, TdsParserStateObject stateObj, Boolean isCommandProc) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteScalar() at [Our Namespace.OurMethod](String someParam)
More than one method will generate this, but this is typical code, note the retry work-around: public static DataTable OurMethod(string someParam) { const string query = "sp_OurStoredProcedure"; var resultsTable = new DataTable(); var connection = new SqlConnection { ConnectionString = OurDatabaseConnection }; var command = new SqlCommand(query, connection) { CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure }; var dataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(command); var retry = 5; SqlConnection.ClearPool(connection); while (retry > 0) { try { command.Parameters.Clear(); command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@someParam", someParam); connection.Open(); dataAdapter.Fill(resultsTable); retry = -1; } catch (Exception ex) { retry--; if (retry <= 0) { LogError("Exception: DataAccess:OurMethod: *RETRIES EXCEEDED* " + ex, "error"); } else { SqlConnection.ClearPool(connection); LogError("Exception: DataAccess:OurMethod: ATTEMPTS REMAINING " + retry + ". " + ex, "warning"); } } finally { dataAdapter.Dispose(); command.Dispose(); connection.Dispose(); } } return resultsTable; }
I have developed a web application in asp.net with C# in visual Studio 2005. And i used sql server 2008 as back end. When i run the program, it shows the following error..An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
or one of my project, I use Access 2007.I have application written by Access, that use database : Sql-Server 2007.I am using XP for the any company computer. The dsn file is on network, and include connectionString with username + password,ut I want to access the database from any user with automatic authentication (no need for user and password).
how do i connect visual web developer to sql server express 2008? in the Database Explorer, i right click on Data Connections, click Add Connection..., and in the Data source box i choose Microsoft SQL Server (sqlClient), which i'm guessing doesn't connect me to a database file, but to sql server express itself(?). in the server name box when i click the drop down box, there's nothing there and that's where i get stuck.
I am using this code to connect to my exchange server using POP3.I am trying to retrieve an inbox of basically emails that have not been read however, i am just getting a bunch of gibberish and its reading an email. modify my code to just read the most recent messages.
Try tcpClient.Connect(hostName, 110) Dim networkStream As NetworkStream = tcpClient.GetStream()[code]...
when i use top instead of retr i get this

i have a project running good (database and application both are in same server). some days before we've decided to place databse (sql server 2000) in different server.we created new server with windows server 2003 and Sql server 2000; nothing else is installed in it.And then i register new server's sql in old server's sql server. it connected successfully. even i can fire a query to new server from old server.
Both new and old server having windows server 2003 and Sql server 2000.
Now the problem :I CAN NOT ACCESS NEW SERVER'S DATABASE FROM MY APPLICATION.
I have written a method for getting information about the ip-addresses of visitors to my web site. The method is called from Page_Load. It connects to the Ripe whois database and gets information about the ip sent. Everything works perfectly when I try it locally using localhost, but as soon as I upload the code to my web host it stops working, and I get the following error message saying that it can't connect to Ripe. The code is exacly the same as I use locally. (The relevant code is included in the error message below). I tried to contact my web host to ask them, but they said it was beyond their expertise...

I have created an SSIS package to fetch the details from an Oracle database and import the details in to SQL servers table. In development region the client provided the connection description for oracle server as shown below: Using the above string I have selected Microsoft OLE DB provider for Oracle and gave xxxxx:1543/AU1D as server name and provided the username and password. It got connected successfully. (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxxxx.abc.XYZ.com)(PORT = 1543)) )(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER=dedicated) (SID=AU1D) )) For Prod environment the Oracle servers connection description is: C10P =(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = yyyyy.abc.XYZ.com)(PORT = 1524)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = zzzzz.abc.XYZ.com)(PORT = 1524)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = vvvvv.abc.XYZ.com)(PORT = 1524)) (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVICE_NAME = C10P. abc. XYZ.com)(FAILOVER_MODE=(TYPE=SELECT)(METHOD=BASIC)))) Now I don't have the SID to use in the connection.
