SQL Server :: Unable To Save Log Out Time For Logged In User?
Jan 17, 2011
I have success to store the login tim for the user but i am unable to save the logout time for logged in user
When saving logged in time, logout time is saved as null(thats ok for me)
but when user log outs it is saving the logout time on the next row instead of saving in last updated row for that user
I need to calculate the time diffrence in hours for particular date for the users

Let me tell you what I need to implement on my company .NET application and I will be more than glad to hear your advise how to do it:
For every user loged-in to the company website, We want to know on which page he is right now. It means, If user X is now on page "1.html", I need to save this information somewhere. If user X after 30-60 seconds going to page "2.html" I want to update it fast where he is now surfing. It means I want to be able to tell at REAL TIME, on each page, Which users are right now observing the page. This is the problem, now I'm looking for the right solution.
If some day my company website will have 400,000 user log-in at the same time, I am going to save to every one of them where he is surfing right now. Maybe I exaggerated, but we do have 45,000 users at the same time on the company web site and the number is growing. I think big so the solution for this problem will be good for a lot of users.
So, my data object for every user should keep this information somewhere:
1. User code (User Number).
2. Which page user is now observing (Page Number).
This object is going to update every 30-60 seconds by using AJAX, so it should be updated fast. It is a lot of reading/writing data. If a user want to see which other users are now on the same page as he his, he will be able to see it, just by going through the whole array of objects.
I don't need this information to be saved in DB, because it doesn't mean anything. It is temporary and changing A LOT. So, I think the right place to do it is using RAM at the the company server, using the Caching Data option. What do you think? Am I wrong?
If I am going to have a data table with lots of records and every record is going to be update every 30-60 seconds. Where should I save all this table data? I am using SQL Server 2008 to save important data as needed, but this data is not important to save, just need to use it for my purpose. Where should I save this data? I think saving it in DB is a bad idea, because of the dynamic update of records every few seconds. I am thinking about 100,000 users who update this table every few seconds. It probably going to kill my DB, so DB is not an option.
What is the right way to implement this kind of thing?
You may think of it like every page is "a chat room" and I want to know who enter now the room (the page), it doesn't have to be completely accurate in time, but approximately.

I have a user control (ascx file) that contains an interface for users to change the data retrieved from the db. So, I am displaying data and most of this data can be edited by the user. When the user enters text into a textbox, and clicks "Save Changes", the value they typed in is lost and not persisted to the database. I realize now this is because the SaveChanges button does a postback, and the user control gets reloaded with its original valuesbefore the code within my SaveChanges button gets executed. I'm not sure if there are properties I need to set to save the input data, or if I need to write my own code to do it. What is the generally accepted method to do this? (Also, all of the controls in the ascx file are wrapped in an Update Panel.)

I'm having a little issue, currently my code, first it saves to DB then send an email in both codes it saves and send the current date and time. I use the following function to get the current date Now() . The problem is when it saves to DB, it saves the current time and date using the timezone of DB server location and the email send the date and time and appear in my wanted timezone (easter time zone). I was wondering if it's possible to make the also save to DB with the correct time zone without using any javascript.

Is it possible to edit images using a javascript library and then send the edited image to the server for saving.
Edits will be in real time, means the user can see the edit result in the same time he is editing without the need to refresh the page.
I want a javascript library to do some edits on an image on a webpage 'such as crop, resize, rotate,...' and send send the edited result to the server.

I deployed a website where a logged user or an anonymous user can select data and download a XML file. The website generate the XML file in the server and then deliver it.
It works fine in my development environment, but after deployment, the anonymous user can download the file, but the logged user receive this error:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'd:HostsLocalUserheringerwebsiteUpload20110107094051.xml' is denied.
It is weird that as anonymous i can do it.
The website server help states this:
"Grant write, modify, delete access rights on website's folder
Your website executes under unique user account that by default has full control over the website's folder.
So your application can create, open, read, write and delete files and folders inside of your root folder.
There is no need and no way to change this permissions.
If, when running ASP.Net application, you still unable to create file or update it, you have to check your Web.Config file for "<Identity impersonate..." tag and remove it.
The only exception is when the application tries to modify a file or folder in "Application_Start" event of Global.asax file. This is by design that user authenticated only after the Application_Start even. Before the user is authenticated your website runs under an identity of Application Pool which is "Network services". That account doesn't have access to the folder of your website.
To make it work you eather have to move the code that tries to modify files or folders out of the "Application_Start" event of the Global.asax file or inside the event you'll need to impersonate your user by code."
But i am not using impersonate and the tag is not in my web.config.

I have a web user control that represents a simple message box. It is used to display simple messages like "Item has been deleted", or "The item was saved successfully".
On the other hand, I have another web user control that represents the item in the form of an editable form (I made this a user control because this is used in two different pages). I want to embed an instance of the message box user control inside the editable form. I am writing this right after the @Control directive:
[Code]....
Instead of using @Register directives, I register the user controls in web.config and so far this has worked just fine.
With the above markup, the project compiles, but whenever I try to navigate to a page that contains this construct, I get an HttpParseException exception. Furthermore, Visual Studio states that the tack w7rc9:MessageBox doesn't represent a known control.
What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to write code that will allow a user to click a button and be prompted to save an image file that resides on the web server. I'm using the following code, but I get an error that says "Error: Could not complete the operation due to error c00ce514.".
[Code]....
I have verified that the file exists. Is there another method for prompting users to save a file to their local machine?

We have an ASP.NET / Silveright web application. The silverlight client displays user specific data in a graphical form - it requests the data from the server: Problem: Getting this data is expensive, due to the underlying database queries that the server has to perform - so the client has to wait... Optimisation Idea: We run the database queries at regular intervals on the server, writing the results to a 'userdata' table in a database 'close' to where the ASP.NET server runs. The process of running the queries and writing the data to the tables is performed by a 'data collection' service, which is separated from the ASP.NET server.
When the client requests data the server retrieves it from a 'userdata' table. This should be nice and quick - we probably have the 'userdata' tables on the same machine as the ASP.NET server. We also have the added benefit that the client sees data even if the underlying database is offline. Of course the data is not live - but all data is potentially old as soon as it reaches the client. So now my Problem: The 'data collection' service needs the user credentials in order to perform these database queries (because each user gets different results for the same query).
How can I store user credentials in a database, in an acceptable 'secure' way? Such that the 'data collection' can impersonate a user to perform the database queries. Our initial scenario is based upon using windows integrated login to the database.
