SQL Server :: Create A Complex Query And Bind It To A Repeater?

Aug 17, 2010

I have written a web project using Visual Web developer 2008 and SQL 2005. I need to create a complex query and bind it to a repeater.

I have 3 tables

Table 1 - Department
Dept_Id (int) primary key
Dept_Name (vchar)
Include_Unavailable (bit)
Table 2 - Employee
Employ_Id (int) primary key
Dept_Id (int) foreign key
Employ_Name (vchar)
Table 3 - Schedule
Sched_Id (int) primary key
Employ_Id (int) foreign key
Date (datetime)

My query is as follows:

SELECT Department.Dept_Name, Employee.Employ_Name, Schedule.Date

FROM Department, Employee, Schedule

WHERE ??

In my query I want all departments and employees listed who work on a particular date. In addition, if the Department.Include_Unavailable is 'true' I want to create a row with the department and employees who work in that department even if they are not schuled to work. I will eventually list these employees as 'unavailable' but do not want to list all unavailable employees as unavailable. Only employees that work in departments that have Department.Include_Unavailable set to 'true'

i am developing a sharepoint webpart. In this webpart i need to use a repeater control. The problem is, i can only use codebehind for creating and using the control. So i have some questions:

1. After creating the repeater control in codebehind, how to create some templates (itemtemplate, footertemplate, etc.) and use it?

2. How to bind a object collection to a repeater control?

C# - Bind A Complex Dictionary To A Gridview?

Jun 6, 2010

I've used an early binding of a dictionary<string, string> to a gridview to show Urls Text and its HRef as key-value and it works like a charm. But since I want to replace the dictionary with this one :

dictionary<string, LinkInfo>

the binding goes wrong! Should I handle some events like as onItemDataBound or something?
and the LinkInfo structure is:

public struct LinkInfo{
public string href;
public bool Enabled;
}

C# - How To Bind A DataTable With Complex Data Objects To A GridView

Jan 31, 2011

My DataTable is programatically generated, and contains objects of type JobInstance in the cells.

[Code]....

When I bind this DataTable to an ASP GridView, it only displays the first column. But if I remove the "typeof(Job)" when creating the column (the line with // !!!), the GridView displays all the columns by showing the result of JobInstance.ToString() in the cells. However, I have no access to the underlying JobInstance object, only the string values that are being displayed.

I need access to the JobInstance object when displaying the GridView (for example in the OnRowDataBound), because I want to access the fields inside JobInstance for each cell to determine formatting options, and add other links in each cell.

C# - Unable To Construct An Entity (complex) Object From A Query

Jun 8, 2010

I am very new to entity, sql, c#, and asp.net so this might be something easily fixed. I am attempting to display all the inactive products stored in my table called products in a datagrid.

var productQuery = from b in solutionContext.Version
where b.Product.Name == search && b.Product.ActiveNumber > b.VersionNumber
select new Product
{
Name = b.Product.Name,
Description = b.Product.Description,
ID = b.ID,
LastNumber = b.Product.LastNumber,
MiddleNumber = b.Product.MiddleNumber,
RSTATE = b.RSTATE,
ActiveNumber = b.Product.ActiveNumber,
LastModified = b.Product.LastModified,
ParentID = b.Product.ParentID,
ProductType = b.Product.ProductType
};
ProductsGrid.DataSource = productQuery;
ProductsGrid.DataBind();

I am getting this error: $exception {"The entity or complex type 'SolutionsModel.Product' cannot be constructed in a LINQ to Entities query."} System.Exception {System.NotSupportedException}

DataSource Controls :: Binding A Complex Query To A Data Control?

Apr 21, 2010

I'm trying to implement a recipe search page that allows users to specify search criteria by selecting checkboxes that match desired recipe attributes. All the data is stored in a database uing tables with 1 - many relationships. Each recipe can have multiple attributes from any of 5 attribute tables. I want to find all the recipes that match the user-selected criteria and display them in a grid. For example, the user may want a breakfast (attribute 1) recipe that is made with fruit and milk (attributes 2 and 3), is low-fat and high fiber (attributes 4 and 5), and takes less than 15 minutes to prepare (attribute 6). The query for this example might look something like:

SELECT distinct recipes.name, recipes.difficulty, recipes.preptime, recipes.cooktime

FROM recipes, recipeMeals, recipeDishes, recipeFoodGrps, recipeNutrients, recipeFixTimes

WHERE recipes.id = recipeMeals.recipeId and recipes.id = recipeDishes.recipeId and recipes.id = recipeFoodGrps.recipeId and recipes.id = recipeNutrients.recipeId and recipes.id = recipeFixTimes.recipeId and recipeMeals.mealId in (1) and
recipeDishes.dishId in (5) and recipeFoodGrps.fdGrpId in (1, 6) and recipeNutrients.nutrAttsId in (2, 3) and recipeFixTimes.fixTimeId in (1)

I' can generate the SQL but can't figure out how to bind it to a grid control. No could I see how to get any of the data controls to build the query for me. Is there a way to say "execute this query and display the results in a GridView"?

ADO.NET :: Passing A Complex Model To A Create View So It Can Be Populated On The HTTP-Postback?

Oct 25, 2010

I have a somewhat complex model that I need to pass to a MVC 2 Create view so its properties can be filled out. I'm not sure how to actually create this model as it has some relationship data that must also be filled out during the creation process.My main model is a Game. Most of its properties are scalar. It contains a foreign key to Content, for the game reviews, and there's a many-to-many relationship between Games and Platforms - games can be on a variety of platforms (PS3, XBox 360, etc.), and each platform has a library of games.When I pass data to my Edit view, it's as simple as:

[Code]....

I'm unsure what to do in the case of Create as I'm not sure how to link the associated parts - Content and Platforms - to a Game object.

SQL Server :: Auto Generate More Complex ID?

Jul 17, 2010

I really don't know if this Post fit in this Forum section. But here I go. I need some sugestion to develop an ASP.NET code that generate complex IDs / Keys automatically. Let me be more understandable:

I want to create uniquelly IDs with more complex composition (kind of 18958351512783997769711... or crlu0xakecjzlgmjsgnedr55) or something link that (doesn't matter the lenght... those are only examples).

So, I can use that to set COOKIE ID's... PRODUCTS CODE ID's.... CUSTOMER's CART ID's... etc... But it need to generate uniquelly numbers. I don't know if you got my point I hope you did.

VS2008 - How To Bind Array To A Repeater

Feb 23, 2010

I have an array that I want to bind to a repeater. It's a single dimensional array, and I simply want to post the values of that array to a repeater. I tried binding directly from the array but I couldn't get it to work right, so I looked around and found that I should maybe use a hashtable. I'm thinking that I can sort the array appropriately, then feed the array into the hashtable as is. The problem is, though, the key order in the hashtable doesn't match the values in the array. Here's the code:

[Code]....

So if my sorted array is 1,2,3,4,5, for some reason the hastable doesn't have the keys in the same order. Is there someway to sort the hashtable so that the key order is sequential when I bind the repeater, or is there a better way to handle this?

Repeater Control - Cancel Bind For Specific Item

Feb 8, 2010

Within a repeater control, is there a way of de-binding certain items before the page is rendered?

Currently we have a collection of items being bound to a repeater and if the item is not part of the current language, we hide the item.

I'm wanting to be able to do a count on the repeater and get a valid number back. A count that doesn't also include the hidden items.

Is it possible to de-bind specific items perhaps in the ItemDataBound event?

Update

For each item in the collection we're binding, we check the database during the ItemDataBound for further information about the item, such as language etc. This is currently stopping us from filtering the bound data before binding it.

C# - Bind Data To A Repeater On Click Of A Particular Button Using Ajax

Sep 13, 2010

I want to Bind data to a Repeater on click of a particular Button. I can do an ajax request via jQuery and call the method to bind the data, but on the page nothing is displayed. This is the method I use to bind the data to the Repeater:

public void BindJobs()
{
if (RptClientDetails.Items.Count != 0) return;
RptClientDetails.DataSource = new JobBusiness().GetJobInfoClient(ClientId);
RptClientDetails.DataBind();
Response.Write("myresponse");
Response.End();
}

The above method is successfully called and the data retrieved by GetJobInfoClient. This is my ajax call:

function BindJobs() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "Client/Default.aspx?action=bindJobs",
data: "{}",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: function (msg) {
// Do something interesting here.
}
});
}
