isnt there performance analysis tools that i can use to monitor and trouble shoot things like timeout expired (slow query execution)?
I mean is there a way for me to monitor the query performance as it is run from the webpage. It runs perfectly in the SMS but it's slow when it's running from the webpages so it throws Timeout expired exception.
I want to implement a response time monitor in a ASP.Net application. This monitor has to calculate the average response time during 2 secs. Whats the performance counter i can use. I tried ASP.NET ApplicationsRequests/Sec but did not work. Whats the best way to do this. I am using the default server formed by VS2005 for development, does this affect the performance counter programming?
Where should I implement the logic? Global.ASAX? in every 2 sec i want to check this value and make some decisions.
In addition, what are the parameters I can alter in a ASP.Net application at runtime to improve perfromance. How can I change them?
I have built a web page that does a complex processing, and I realized recently that I need to convert it to a windows service running at the background and keeping the web page for monitoring and initiating the service.
The service will process some files, and provides information messages to the user.
I'm not sure how to implement the link between the windows service and the web site, but i was trying to avoid using MSMQ to connect both application together.
I would like to create a webpage that will be able to monitor if an application (process) is running.
I would also like the ability to start an application (process) if it is not. Where would I even start?

View 1 RepliesI have a producer-consumer scenario in ASP.NET. I designed a Producer class, a Consumer class and a class for holding the shared objects and responsible for communication between Producer and Consumer, lets call it Mediator. Because I fork the execution path at start-up (in parent object) and one thread would call Producer.Start() and another thread calls Consumer.Start(), I need to pass a reference of Mediator to both Producer and Consumer (via Constructor). Mediator is a smart class which will optimize many things like length of it's inner queue but for now consider it as a circular blocking queue. Producer would enqueues new objects to Mediator until the queue gets full and then Producer would block. Consumer dequeues objects from Mediator until there's nothing in the queue. For signaling between threads, I implemented two methods in Mediator class: Wait() and Pulse(). The code is something like this:

Inside Mediator I use this.Pulse() every time something is Enqueued or Dequeued so waiting threads would be signaled and continue their work.But I encounter deadlocks and because I have never used this kind of design for signaling threads, I'm not sure if something is wrong with the design or I'm doing something wrong elsewhere ?
I have one Store Procedure that generating report ..
For storing the data there , i used many temp. tables. There is many Select Query , little less insert and delete query.
Now if there is huge data around 1 lac in temp table my select query taking to much time and also may be insert and delete query
I added Primary key to all auto Increment Field in temp table. Also defined Clustered index on that primary key as unique Clustered index to improve the performance .
But there is not so much improvement in case of huge temp table.
Right now the whole Store Procedure is taking time to complete around 1.5 days or around 30 hours ..
So i want to increase the performance as much that it completes on nearly 3-4 hours.
I have a big query that it execute in 4 minutes. (for example an important trigger)
I want to show situation of query or count of records that is affected in every 10 second in to a web page.
what should I do? (complete explain)
I'm encountering a strange problem. Here is the scenario. I have built a query that accepts a parameter (WHERE LIKE clause).
I've tested this within the query builder and it returns exactly the number I would expect.
I then go back to my webpage and add the following controls:
Dropdown
Gridview
the user to make a selection from the dropdown. Postback on the dropdown is enabled so the page reloads and the Gridview displays the filtered results (via an objectdatasource). I've set the parameter to the dropdown control.
The trouble is when I run the page I make the selection in the dropdown no results are displayed. Even though the text displayed in the dropdown control is exactly the same as I inputted into the query builder when testing it.
We have been assigned a project for future developement. The problem is original developer did not create any data model, so we are in trouble understanding how db structure flow goes. I know we can create database diagram (even did that), but db contains 162 tables so the db diagram becomes so big that it does not fit in the monitor's view. Viewing each table > keys (for relationships) is not possible.

Now I could query the DB each time the page is accessed or I could grab the values from a custom class that would check to see if they already exist in ASP.Net's cache and only if they don't query the DB to update the cache.
It's trivial for me to write but I'm unsure if the performace would be better or not. I think it would be (although not likely anything huge).
I have a query that I want to test the performance of when the query is included directly in the SqlDataSource versus when I call a stored procedure. Does anyone have suggestions on how I would be able to closely watch the actual steps here? I was thinking of turning on tracing and adding Trace.Write for each of the events that fire along the way. This doesn't seem efficient and I wanted to see if there was a better approach.

One website is taking much time for inserting datas to the DB (SQL server 2005). 2 websites are having different DB server.
I think the issue is for the DB server. How can we rectify the DB performance while insertion and Is there any other cause for this permance issue?

I am creating a service oriented application where trying to have everything using services....however there is something I am not sure of , I am having a page that calls the database at the page load...so what would be better and faster?? to call database in pageload , or to call wcf service from javascript during javascript load ??btw , I am using a repeater in the page , but I have created somekind of an engine to create the suitable html so...I'll be creating the repeaters html using the wcf and resend it back to the page If I am using a wcf service at the start.

1, I need to access the Latin letters from query string. Is there any thing different from normal query string operations?

By right clicking on my database i created a query in server explorer. But where are this query stored can't find them back. I should aspect that their is a folder query's like there is a folder tables but this isn't the case.

At the moment it is producing each result in many rows when only 4 rows should appear. its the download column that is doing it. needs to be sub queried or something to display total in relation to month,gameid,userid.

I have a small app that is used to register users to the system. I am interested in having a log that will tell me, who - userid that logs in, what they do, how long. meaning, the rows they look at or update. I suppose to make a small table for this logging. lets assume a small table with only 2 columns, timestamp and the userid. It would be good to get some kind of ip address for identity.
