View 9 RepliesOur application lets the administrator create new users. Since the administrator is logged in, I have set Logincreateduser = false so that the administrator is not logged out even after creating the new user.
The problem is :I need the userid of the newly created user to store additional details of the user in another database table. I see that i can get the username using Createuserwizard1.username; but how do I get the userID?
I have created my own form for creating a new user and collecting data, I just need to do one thing, find the UserID of the newly created user before they have logged in
Here is the Code: [Code]....
How do I get the UserID of the just created user?
I recently read Scott Mitchell's article series "Examining ASP.NET's Membership, Roles, and Profile". In Part 6 [URL] It says "to store additional, user-specific fields...If you are using the SqlMembershipProvider, this would mean creating an additional database table that had as a primary key the UserId value from the aspnet_Users table and columns for each of the additional user properties."
I created a table named Thread to store some specific users information and comments they make. I set the ThreadId as the primary key and the UserId as the foreign key to the UserId in aspnet_Users table. But when I run the application and use a user's account to submit a comment, there is an error in my Comments.aspx.vb page "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'UserId', table 'ASPNETDB.dbo.Thread'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.The statement has been terminated."
How can I make the logged-on user's UserId inserted into the Thread table when storing the user's other data information?
i'm trying to figure out if its possible to skip a step in the create user wizard control that i've added. What i'd like to do is create a checkbox on the previous step and say "add a spouse" and if its checked goto the next step if its not checked goto the step after the "add a spouse" step. make sense?
View 7 RepliesHow to get UserId registered user and log in UserId? My new table tbl_Employees, column:
UserId, UserIdNewRegister
Eg.:
1. Log in UserId is: 76F31C27-9AA4-4968-AEAB-8B5DFEED16E7
2. Register a new user, UserId is: 20T31C27-9AA4-4968-83RR-8B5DFEED1632
How to get UserId: 76F31C27-9AA4-4968-AEAB-8B5DFEED16E7 and UserId new user: 20T31C27-9AA4-4968-83RR-8B5DFEED1632. I want to put the user is stored under UserId 76F31C27-9AA4-4968-AEAB-8B5DFEED16E7 and UserId: 20T31C27-9AA4-4968-83RR-8B5DFEED1632 new user.
LoginCreatedUser is "False" LoginCreatedUser = "False"
The app requires user (mainUser) to login. Once logged in, the user can create users (subUser). I use the CreateUserWizard Control for this. I need to get the UserID of the subUser. HOw can I do this. I'm not sure of how to do it without confusing ASP of which userId I want. Is this a case for sessions? Or is there a more direct way?
View 2 RepliesI'm creating a web project for one of my uni modules using Visual studio 2010. I'm using asp.net membership and have all of my sql-server tables set up correctly (I'm pretty sure).
I have a form that I have created myself that inserts into the database using sqlDataSource.insert(). I had some problems initially with not being able to insert any data into the table at all, but I have cleared that up.
My problem now is that I need to insert the currently logged in user's userID into one of the columns of the table. But every time I hit the submit button, I am told I cannot insert null values in the userID column.
I can retrieve the userID using this snippet:
[Code]....
This is the code behind for the page:
[Code]....
As you can see it is a bit of a mess, I've been frantically trying different variations, as I need to catch up a little with other uni modules.
Here is my SQLDataSource from the .aspx page, The controlparameters work fine for the other data I am inserting. maybe the <asp:parameter name="userID" /> is wrong?

I'm relatively new to vb, and I come from a html & css background.
It sounds pretty simple, but I can't find a way to make it work. I have a FormView with a InsertTemplate where it inserts the current logged in user's UserId and content from a HTMLeditor, and a EditTemplate where it retreives the current logged in UserId and shows content from database in the HTMLeditor.
How can I get it to show EditTemplate if the userId exist in the table, and InsertTemplate if the UserId does not exist in the table?
i'm using asp.net membership for logins/registeration. i have a bookings table with few fields, lets say first_name, last_name, product_name and userID.when the user submits 'buy' i want to get the userID from the membership user tablem that way i know whose made the booking. i'll have these two tables (bookings & user tables) linkedbut how do i get userID from the user table to pass to bookings table? i checked the membership class and it gives options like-Membership.GetUser(), Membership.GetUserNameByEmail(), Membership.GetAllUsers() etcothing for getting user id. user id is stored like this: c1c91682-449f-45dd-b20e-3dac5315bba4
View 2 RepliesPerhaps this is a simpler VS9 question, but I want to link a SQLServer table with additional user data to the standard SQLServer membership table using the GUID userID as a foreign key. I go into design mode of my table, right-click on relationships, and click add in the dialog. but the left hand column shows me only the tables in my database. How do I get it to show the tables in the ASPNETDB.MDF database? I went through the tutorial (http://www.asp.net/learn/security/tutorial-08-cs.aspx), but it seems to magically appear in there without explanation.
View 3 Replies I have a confusing question, I have a user table and it stores all the usual data for a user that you would expect but im trying to figure out how a user could add another user?
Sounds strange but each user in the User table has his own UI which is UserID how could I add another table where UserID can have a relationship with another UserID?
i.e how would I right the syntax for the above question if I wanted to display all the UserIDs friends on a page. How would I add a friend.
let's say I have an entity (based on a SQL Server table) that I'll call "Schedule." This entity includes the following columns:
DateID -- identity integer column, primary key
StartDate -- DateTime column
EndDate -- another DateTime column.
Let's say I add new data as follows: [Code]....
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that once the EF.SaveChanges() executes, a new entry is created, and a new DateID is generated.I need to get that new DateID.
I have looked and so far not been able to find the answer. When a user creates a new account i want the user to be automatically logged into the site as opposed to just being redirected to the log in page. I am able to create the users but am unsuccessful at finding logging them in.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to handle add a custom field to a user profile using CreateUserWizard.
I added the field to web.config as
<profile defaultProvider="SqlProvider">
<providers>
<add name="SqlProvider" type="System.Web.Profile.SqlProfileProvider" connectionStringName="db"
[code]...
And added a ListBox to the template of CreateUserWizard. I wanted to add the information to the profile in the CreateUserWizard_UserCreated event. I can retrive values, but I can't figure out how to retrive the ProfileBase of the newly created user.
I am using ASP.NET MVC 3. I am using what essentially came with for free in the Visual Studio project template for an MVC project with the "Internet Application" option. Basically this brings in Forms authentication and provides some basic elements to manage user login and stuff.
I am also using the web profiles stuff with this to store some custom fields. Everything was going great. I use SuperFunProfile as a wrapper around the Profile instance to make it easier to get at profile properties. Until I wanted to set a property of a Profile right away after signing the user up.The problem I can't solve is that this.Request.RequestContext.HttpContext.Profile contains the profile for the anonymous user. How can I get a new profile for the user now that he should be signed up and signed in?
public ActionResult SignUp(SignUpModel model)
{
if (ModelState.IsValid)
{
[code]....
I poked around Membership and Web.Profile, but I am not seeing anything that looks like it will get me closer to my goal.Maybe I should just create a ProfileModel that I store myself into the DB rather than using Web.Profile? I could key that on MembershipUser.ProviderUserKey which would make it easier to create a ProfileModel at sign up, I suppose.
I currently have a JSTree all set up to do the creation and renaming of a new node:
.bind("create_node.jstree", function (NODE, REF_NODE) {
$.ajax({
async: false,
cache: false, [code]...
The problem is that my success doesn't seem to get hit when I return an integer ID on the create node, thus I can't set it to a global variable. What exactly do I need to return in the function to get back the ID from the server? I'm simply returning a new integer right now.
I've editing a create user wizard to add a 2nd step, this step will collect the users address. i can't get the second step to save into a table. I'm completely new to visual web developer, so if you reply please make it as jargon free as possible, see source code and vb code, i think i'm missing code for the "finish Button click"

I've got a FormView control on a page. Its default mode is insert, since the intent is to have the user enter a record, save it, and then do something else. I've written a stored procedure to insert all of the data into 5 tables. 1 of the columns inserted is default, in SQL Server 2005, as an INT column, which is an IDENTITY column. After it inserts the record into the primary table, using a secondary stored procedure, it retrieves the newly created INT value, and then the primary stored procedure inserts records, using the new INT, into the other 4 tables. This is working fine. The primary stored procedure, which is called by the SqlDataSource on my .aspx page, defines this parameter as an output parameter:
[Code]....
In the FormView's ItemInserted event I'm trying to get the value from the FormViewInsertedEventArgs e parameter like this: [Code]....
However, the result returned is 0. Huh? That cannot be, because the new INT value created is something like 145000. Why am I then seeing a value of 0?
I created a table named Thread to store logged-on users' comments. It has CommentId, Topic, Comment, CreatedTime and UserId columns. I made CommentId as the primary key and UserId as the foreign key to the UnserId in the Membership table aspnet_Users.But when I insert those data into table Thread, I get an error "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'UserId', table 'ASPNETDB.dbo.Thread'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.The statement has been terminated." I have tried different ways to resolve this, but could not make the UserId in the table Thread match the UserId in table aspnet_Users. Yesterday, I found the Table Profile Provider Samples created by Hao Kung at http://www.asp.net/downloads/sandbox/table-profile-provider-samples. It should be be able to solve my problem. But the code was written in C#. Is there anybody who knows a VB version of this code, or a better way to solve my problem?

View 3 RepliesI am in the process of creating my database and I have the pending question of whether I should add a UserID using INT to the membership table. I am not replacing the UserID that is a UniqueIdentifier I am just adding a UserID with INT.
The reason I want to do this is because I have about twelve other tables that uses the UserID column. It will be easy for users to insert data into the other tables and I foresee the tables getting to be millions of rows, by using an UserID INT it will avoid the mass amount of storage from the UniqueIdentifier column.
Now my question is what are my repurcussions of doing this? I've already found out one, and I believe it is my biggest question, if I were to create an insert command in .net how would I grab the UserID INT rather then the UserID UniqueIdentifier to insert it into my tables? For example, I can get the userid this way:
Membership.GetUser("username").ProviderUserKey.ToString();
I just installed Visual Web Developer 2010. All I've done at this point is:
1- Clicked on Create new ASP.net web site (NOT the empty one).
2- It creates the web site
3- I click CTL+F5 to run it.
4- It kicks out the error: Error: 'Sys' is undefined
If I create an Empty web site, and add my own web page, it runs no problem.
