Security :: Custom Fields Using The Create User Component?
Jul 19, 2010
I have searched everywhere and can't find a great solution. All I want to do is have about 40 extra fields that save to a SQL database when creating a new user. Will also need to keep the functionality of roles so I don't want to completely override the built in functions.
I have seen the ability to put the data into a profile, but as I understand that will not save to the database in a form that I could join/select against.
There's the ability to tie onto the end of the CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser, but then it's an extra select/insert into a separate table. Would be nice if I could keep everything in 1 function and in 1 table.
So what is the best way to add a bunch of extra fields into the database when creating a new user?
I use asp.net default membership provider. in my register.aspx page i use a CreateUserWizard to create new user. in this wizard i want to create a custom step in first step to show the user some roles with a checkBox if user check it mean he agree with the roles and can create account.
i create the step and i put the some text and a checkBox in it. the problem is i don't know how to get the value of checkBox and how active the next button in first Step of my wizard.
I am experimenting with the customization of the createuserwizard by creating textboxes for FirstName and Last Name. I have altered the web.config file to add the fields, but where does the actual data get stored? What C# code do I need to create, if any?
I am using the CreateUserWizard in my VB.Net 3.5 web app. I added my own custom fields (First Name, Last Name...) to the form by using the CreateUserWizardStep and the CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser event. Everything inserts fine into the aspnet_ tables and my own table. However, I cannot get the form validation to work. In other words, the form is ignoring the RequiredFieldValidators that I added.
i would like to create custom columns in the GridView Control. For example:After performing SQL query, there are 4 columns bound to the control: 1. ID 2. Name 3. LA 4. LE
Now, for each row, I would like to add column5. Custom - which would read LA and LE values from each row, assign them to variables vLA and vLE respectfuly, and then, I'd take vLA and vLE to perform custom calculations every time the page is displayed.I know how to make a custom colum to display calculated result, butCan someone please help me how to read LA and LE values for each row?
I am trying to use a second (custom) table to extend my users profile info. This table is in the same database as the 'aspnet_Users' table but has a different name. I create a FK relationship between the 'aspnet_Users' table and my custom table. Here is my web.config code:
I have the table "MyProfileTable_Employees" poplulated with data the 'userid' matches to the aspnet_Users table. In my web application (vb), when I type in Profile.MyProfileInfo, there are no custom fields. Actually, when I type profile., there are no profile related entries. What am I missing here? Am I miss-interpting what a custom profile provider is?
So I'm using the CreateUserWizard tool, which is working great, and have added a few custom fields to the user's Profile, which is also working great... with one exception. The fields that I'm capturing from TextBoxes are being saved to the database perfectly. But those I'm trying to capture from DropDownLists aren't being saved. No error is taking place, either in my code or at runtime, but no data is being written to the table from these particular fields.
I thought I knew how to capture data from a DropDownList in ASP.NET (I'm a newbie, but not ridiculously so), but I've tried a bunch of stuff here and nothing seems to be working. I'm posting an abbreviated version of my CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser function below, with comments...
protected void CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser(object sender, EventArgs e) { //Get the profile of the user by finding the profile by name TextBox oUserName = (TextBox)CreateUserWizard1.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("UserName");
There are multiple roles. (Role A, Role B etc) There are multiple input/output fields. (Field A, Field B etc) There are multiple permission levels controlling access to each field. (Read, Direct Edit, Edit With Approval, None) Each role has its own permissions to fields. (Role A has Read Permission to Field A; Role B has Direct Edit permission to Field A etc) Every role can be assigned to users and they are assigned by Geographic information. (User A is assigned to Role A for Continent: Europe - Country: Germany; User B is assigned to Role A for Continent: Europe - Country: France; User A is assigned to Role B for Continent: Europe - Country: France etc) Users can have multiple roles User identity is coming from Windows Authentication.
is it possible to represent this type of kind of multi-layered security model using ASP.NET internal membership/role providers? If so, what should my starting point be? Creating only custom role provider with custom methods and fields be enough?
I'm using VS 2010 and have a default Register User page. I want to add a few more fields to the default user name, passwor, email. These fields need to be saved to a different table than the apsnet_Users table. I figured I could do this in the CreatedUser event but don't know how to access the text box controls I added - for example First name, last name and so on.
I have a wizard control with 3 wizard steps. 1 contains "create new user", 2 for user management grid control and 3 for another functionalities. My problem is.. I am able to create new user successfully and after clicking on continue button in create new user, the name, email id text fields are not getting cleared.
I am using a create User Wizard for registering a user and have converted it to a a template to capture additional information. In the CreatedUserEvent handler in Code Behind I am getting the UserName of the new user and their unique GUID key. This is then added to a seperate data table with addditional info captured from the user. The textboxes within the create user Wizard have validation controls. If the user has missed an entry these fire and it shops the process of creating the user.
BUT If I then complete the textboxes and then click submit it says the USER NAME already Exists! This is not what I want as the User just needs to correct the errors in the form and they should be able to keep their iniital User Name choice. Do I need to change the Event handler and if so am I still able to capture the USerName and Key so that I can add the data to the other non membership table.
I want to create a user registration form, I used the CreateUserWizard control, and i intend to add more filed with the wizard interface, the fields were firstname, lastname, telephone all these with the textBox control and sex-male or female with a radioButton control, and upload photo with the FileUpload control.
After a successfull submit to the sql database, i should be able to retrieve all this informtion inluding the photo uploaded in another aspx page using any of the data control in y toolbox and resizein the photo to be 100/100 pixel size. pls could you write out the code (step by step details) to follow to implement all this in my asp.net 3.5 c# website. I have already created a table in my database, using userId as my ForeignKey.
I have a custom membership user class and custom MembershipProvider working against database. Due to security reasons the user passwords are stored in the database as hashed values. So my procedure
public override bool ValidateUser(string username, string password) is { //select hashed password from db return (EncodePassword(password) == dbpassword) } [code]....
im creating a multi step create user wizard for new members but I run into a problem. If the create of an account is in step 3 how do I capture the values from step 1 and 2. Should I try to pass the values to sessions or is there some other code. Here is some codebehind I tried so far (did not work).
I am createing user dynamially with the below code; string MyPassword = Membership.GeneratePassword(8,0).ToString(); Membership.CreateUser(TextBox7.Text, MyPassword, TextBox8.Text); but before I start creating, I would like to check if the user name is used before or not.
I facing a problem here. how can I make the create user wizard category all the new user become normal user role? I have created 2 role which is Manager and Normal User. Normal User can't view the Manager page. But after i create a new user account, i can view manager and normal user page. I want to make all the new member registration will be normal user role?
My question relates to membership providers. I have two websites that run on two different servers. One website is a community website that uses Telligent community server 2007. The other is a website that contains information. I have a form where users can request more information. What I would like to do is when a user requests more information, automatically create a user account in my community website. I was told that I can create a custom asp.net membership provider that will create a new user account in my community website. I have read some info at msdn and asp.net websites, but I am still unclear as to how I can create a custom membership provider that will work across different websites running on different servers.
I am using the createuserwizard but have also created my own database where the data will be stored NOT using the standard aspnetdb.
But i am getting checkschemaversion errors when registering the user. The thing is that the data actually gets stored in my own db even though error occurs.
I am using Membership createuser but how can i override this to use with my own db rather the aspnetdb where it requires all standard tables and stored procedures to be created
My project needs to let users to create a ASPX page where the page will hard code with all the web part zone and control. Does anyone know how can I do that? Remember that in our share point, it has a function that let a user create a new website or adding a new page into the website. I want to get this functionality works like share point.
I want a create a custom/user control that has children.
For Example, I want my control to have the following markup:
<div runat="server" id="div"> <label runat="server" id="label"></label> <div class="field"> <!-- INSERT CHILDREN HERE --> </div> </div>
and when I want to use it on a page I simply:
<ctr:MyUserControl runat="server" ID="myControl"> <span>This is a child</span> <div runat="server" id="myChild">And another <b>child</b> </ctr:MyUserControl>
The child controls inside my user control will be inserted into my user control somewhere. What is the best way to accomplish this?
The functionality is similar to a asp:PlaceHolder but I want to add a couple more options as well as additional markup and the such. Also the child controls still need to be able to be accessed by the page. (in the example above the page should have the myChild Control on it)
EDIT ------
It can be a template control as long as it allows me to reference the children on the page.
