Security :: Error: " 'User' Is Not Declared"
Jul 12, 2010
Maybe I'm going crazy or I need some sleep, but I'm trying to use the brilliant membership feature in ASP.NET, and I want to check if the user is currently logged in. The code I got from the book is:
[Code]....
I keep on getting this error: " 'User' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level." I noticed it's not even in the code hints that Visual Studio provides. Maybe I need to import a namespace or something, but right now I'm at a loss.

I know I have to be missing something simple, but yes, it's stumped me. I've read a couple posts that are similar, but didn't correct my issue. This seems too easy, so here's my situation. I have a Login.aspx (using VB). Here's my (partial) code for this page:
[Code]....
Then in the Login.aspx.vb, I'm getting the error as stated in this posts subject line:

In my project i am was getting error:
error:requiredPermission attribute not declared
to resolve this i did Google [URL] and then i found that i will have to add "xmlns" in my webconfig's configuration tag and i did that:
<configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">
but then i got new error:
Could not find schema information for the element [URL].NetConfiguration/v2.0:configuration'. and to resolve this i did google again and found a [URL] which is saying to remove that "xmlns" to get error resolved.

i have a fileupload control from which i need the path of a text file. After selecting the file,i need to open the file for reading the data from the text file.For this, i used the following code to open the text file.
fp=File.OpenText(FileUpload2.PostedFile.FileName)
This is working fine in my system.The FileUpload2.PostedFile.FileName statement gives the path of the file.The File.OpenText method opens the selected file.But when i run my project in IIS,it gives the following error:
"File.OpenText is not declared."
The FileUpload2.PostedFile.FileName statement is not retrieving the path, it retrieves only only the filename.what could be the reason?

I have a conditional statement running on my aspx page which looks for a value from a static property (i.e. the object should not need to be declared).
[Code]....
This is the error that is thrown: "BC30451: 'CurrentSession' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level."The class is public and to make matters more confusing, it works fine in certain environments but blows up on some.

Do we have to do something special to have ASP.NET partial classes aware of controls that are declared in our user control's base classes? The partial classes keep generating declarations for controls in the base class which mean the controls in the base class get hidden and are null.

i am using membership to create an account page that a user enters after logging on.
In the page load of "MyAccountPage.aspx" I have the following which gets the userid and add it as a paremeter
Guid userid = (Guid)Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey;"ClientId"].DefaultValue
= userid.ToString();
ObjectDataSource7.SelectParameters[
"ClientId"].DefaultValue = userid.ToString();
This works fine - I have now added to the page a LoginStatus as when they arrive they are loggen in. The problem is when the user clicks the Logg off link I get the error on the page below -
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Source Error:
[Code]....
Is this because the page load is trying to get the logged on user ID
but they have just logged out?
How can I allow the User to logg out without getting the error?

I have create user wizard control on my page as below with mail definition setup to send a welcome email to new registerd user.
<asp:CreateUserWizard ID="CreateUserWizard1" runat="server"
requiresQuestionAndAnswer= "false"
oncreateduser="CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser" LoginCreatedUser="False">
<MailDefinition BodyFileName="~/EmailTemplates/CreateUserWizard.txt"
From="myemailaddress" Subject="New User">
</MailDefinition>
<WizardSteps>
<asp:CreateUserWizardStep ID="CreateUserWizardStep1" runat="server" >
<ContentTemplate>
layout content here
</
ContentTemplate>
</WizardSteps
>
</asp:CreateUserWizard
>
Problem is I am not receiving the welcome email.
To test it, I placed another create user wizard on another page in its default form
as below
<asp:CreateUserWizard ID="CreateUserWizard1" runat="server">
<MailDefinition BodyFileName="~/EmailTemplates/CreateUserWizard.txt"
From="myemailaddress" Subject="New User">
</MailDefinition>
<WizardSteps>
<asp:CreateUserWizardStep runat="server" />
<asp:CompleteWizardStep runat="server" />
</WizardSteps>
</asp:CreateUserWizard>
This one worked and I got welcome email. The setup in Web Config is correct. Is it because I have the oncreateduser="CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser" or some other conflict issue.

I'm running IIS 6.0 on a Windows 2003 server and running an ASP.NET 4 application which connects to an SQL Server 2005 database on another server. I have my Default.aspx page set to Windows authentication with anonymous access disabled.
When I load up the page it asks for a username and password (as expected), I enter my credentials and it comes up with the following error:Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
If I add the following to my web.config file: <identity impersonate="true"/> then I get the following error:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'.
And if I add the <identity impersonate> tag set to true and with my username and password included it connects successfully.
I can't leave this in there as I want each user to connect as themselves, so why is the server not using the credentials that I enter when prompted to connect to the database ?

I wrote an asp.net application that I'm trying to run on a godaddy domain I bought. I need to read a file in a folder that I did not give read access to so that your average user cannot see in the informaion in that folder. I assumed that the asp.net program would have the same credentials as myself because server-side code. Turns out I am wrong. When I go to use the asp.net application it throws an access denied error saying that the ASP.NET user account has to be given permissions to access the folder.
After talking to two different tech support people at godaddy I've come to the realization that they are either dumb or lazy (or a combo of the two).I came across some code that you can put into the web.config file that would allow the asp.net application to impersonate a user, which would work great to use myself as the impersonated user. However it seems that godaddy cannot give me the name of the server that my domain is on (that's understandable) so I don't know what to put in the identity tag to get this to work.
Here is the code I found:
[Code]....
(of course I filled in the username and password with the correct info)
When I went to use it again it threw this error:
System.Web.HttpException: The current identity (PHX3username) does not have write access to 'C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files'.

So I have a matser page with a few images that I added using a normal tag <img src="../../Content/logo.jpg" alt="" />. This works fine while debugging on localhost, but the images won't show up when I view the page from the live application. Someone mentioned using URL.Content, but when I added that to my tag I received a "Name URL is not declared" error.
