Security :: Forms Authentication On HTML Pages And Images?

Dec 23, 2010

I read that with IIS 7, ASP.NET has become an intrinsic part of IIS instead of an external ISAPI DLL. They say that the main reason for this change is that it's now possible to secure files that previously have not been handled by ASP.NET.

I want to check this out, so I have created a Forms authentication web site and added the following files to it:

Default.aspxLogin.aspxHtmlPage.html

Moreover, I have set the web.config to deny anonymous users and I have enabled Forms authentication in IIS.

Here's my problem:

While the ASPX page perfectly requires me to log in, the HTML page does not. It just yields error 401.2.

So my question is:

What did I do wrong? What is necessary to have HTML files (or images) secured using Forms authentication?

Security :: Login Pages Without Using Forms Authentication?

Oct 18, 2010

I want to create a website that a user can logon and view their data. They should also be able to logout. I'm wondering how to achieve this WITHOUT using the Membership provider api provided by Microsoft. This is what I think should happen.

1. user enters name and password and clicks button.

2.If username and password are correct the user is redirected to a webpage with their details.

3.A session is created.

4.The user logouts and the session is deleted.

Security :: How To Use Forms Authentication On Specific Aspx Pages

Feb 15, 2010

I want to use the login component with forms authentication, but i don't want to use the whole package. I have a database with users in it, and i create the users manually, through another section of my site. I will authenticate them using my own functions, in the Authenticate event.

But, specifying the forms authentication in web.config, i seem to recall having seen somewhere, that i could add pages that were protected, while the rest of the site wasn't.

How do i do this? Currently, i have only 1 page that i want to protect.

Can Browse Images And Static Html Pages

Oct 14, 2010

I had an ASP.NET 1.1 application that I converted to 2.0. I deployed the application under IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server. I can browse images and static html pages but I can't browse .aspx pages. When I try to run any .aspx page, my browser says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". My application pool is set to .NET framework 2.0 with Integraded in Managed Pipeline mode.

Form Authentication On Purely HTML Pages?

Aug 28, 2010

I am using forms authentication in IIS7 to password-protect a dev site, but the authentication seems to get by-passed when the site contains only static HTML files + login.aspx + web.config.

When I renamed the files to .aspx, I am prompted with the login form I am not doing anything fancy. I have a very simple login script and it should just redirect to index.html afterward.

To summarize, the entire site is using HTML (for now) and needs to be password protected.

<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms name="appNameAuth" path="/" loginUrl="~/login.aspx" defaultUrl="index.html" protection="All" timeout="525600">
<credentials passwordFormat="Clear">
<user name="<user>" password="<password>" />
</credentials>
</forms>
</authentication>
<authorization>
<deny users="?" />
</authorization>

Security :: Securing Web Images So Only Pages Can Access Them?

Nov 9, 2010

I only want my web images to be visibleSimpliied, a digital media page pulls html content from a database using SQL security and renders that HTML. That digital media page is secured in that only a returing Paypal transaction user with a matching transaction can access it. But today that HTML content makes references to images on my site, those images can be freely directly over the web.The backend is asp.net 2.0. Would it be possible for me to secure the web folder with my images to some generic user and impersonate access from my pages so that attempts to access images directly fails?f not, any way to solve all that html content on serverside somehow and turn it into something else I can secure?

Security :: Authentication - Can't Access Editing Pages

Oct 3, 2010

I have a website developed in ASP.NET created by someone else, sitting on another server... until now... a simple(ish) setup with login to update content. The site was zipped up and I was told it would be a simple case of uploading all the files onto the new server. I've managed to upload the site and it works fine... but I can't access the editing pages as it will no longer accept the username and password when I go to login. The host server is running ASP.NET v4 and IIS v7. Hosting is with [URL] so I'm also getting used to their way of doing things.

Security :: Form Authentication With Multiple Login Pages?

Mar 10, 2011

I have read the many posts of people trying to use two different login pages: one for users and one for admins. My question is very different. I have a Site.master page with a LoginView and LoginControl. I then have three root level pages Default.aspx, About.aspx, and Contact.aspx that derive from the Site.master. All three pages are set in the web.config to be allowed to all users. I then have a MemberPage in a Member folder which is only accessible to authenticated users. What I want to have happen is to be able to login from either the Default, About, or Contact pages and then be directed to the MemberPage.

Security :: Membership And Form Authentication / Logged In user Can See Content Of Pages They're not Suppose To?

Oct 19, 2010

I am having an issue, with the membership and form authentication. I am having a problem where when an logged in user types a url they can see the content of pages they're not suppose to. When the user tries to click on the screen or any ajax fires they are redirected to the main page. What is going on? I have all the items setup in the webconfig properly just wondering what is happening. Also I don't want to use a redirect solution for each page since that is what I thought webconfig was setup for.

Security :: How To Authenticate Requests For Images / Html / Js Files In IIS 7.5

Apr 12, 2010

I'm busy trying something new, I'm currently busy experimenting with asmx web services, jquery for ajax requests to the web services and jtemplate as a client side template engine. Everything works fine so far, my only problem is authentication. I'm using forms authentication with a regular login.aspx web form with login control added as my login page. My content pages that needs to be authorized are .html files. I found a wiki article on howto add mappings to the aspnet_isapi.dllfor other file extensions, it is based on IIS 6. Does anyone know how i get this working on Win 7 IIS 7.5? I tried various things inetmgr with the mapping handler without success, the closest i got was when it did redirect me to login page, i logged, it directed me back to the html page but it was blank.

For that I used "add managed handler", request path = "*.html", type = "System.Web.UI.Page, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" name="HTML"

Here is the link to the wiki page i found: [URL]

I have developed the authenticated rss feed using the basic http authentication for my site.I also have the admin module for the site which uses the Asp.net Forms Authentication .Both are in the same project.When i turn on the forms authentication module to None in my web.config.My rss feed authentication works fine(the browser pop up the dialog box for the username and password) and upon entering the username and password the rss feed gets displayed.But with forms authentication turn on when i click the rss feed link i am getting redirected to the administrator login page.

Feb 16, 2011

I'm developing an internal booking sytem. Users log in to the sytem and can view existing bookings and search for bookings. They can also create new or edit existing bookings. When completing such actions I need a confirmation prior to completing the booking or updating the recorded. The confirmation is based on a reauthentication of the user.... in otherwords he needs to enter his passord again.

How can I achieve this? The system is internam and I'm using Forms Authentication. I an also using roles as som of the admin forms can only be viewed by administrators.

I therefore want to base each 'sub site' on a slightly different master page.

I have a base master calleed master1.master:

I then created a home.master using master1.master as its master:

[Code]....

BUT... on the web page all the contentplace holders are flagged as in error eg 'Could not fine "head" in the current master page or pages' where head is replaced by each placeholderIf I change the MasterPageFile= to point at master1.master the errors go away - but of course I dont have the differences in the page (at the moment just the menu)

I have tried the suggestions in http://forums.asp.net/t/1218788.aspx/2/10 but although the errors go away, the images in the Master1 left column don't get displayed and some of the css seems to disappear

This could be very straight forward for some of you, but I got caught up. I am doing very simple test - browsing from IIS Manager to see the default page or "under Construction", however I am being challenged to provide my login credential . When I provide my login credential, I am able to see the default page. I wanted to see the default page without providing my credential since Enable anoymous access + basic authentication I am simply wanted to see the default page asit is working on other servers except this one. I have included screen print to make sure may question is clear.
