View 3 RepliesI am using the create user wizard to create users that are then placed in the ASPNETDB database. Is there a way to delete users in the same fashion? I am using Visual Studio 2008 VB.NET.
View 1 RepliesUsing tutorials and some examples of handling membership permission on our site, i have a page that was built using examples found in those pages.. Anyway, now that it is all setup and working ran into first issue.. If a role is setup with a space in the name like this ("Read Only") then you get an error when you try to add someone to that role. But if i change it to be ("ReadOnly") it works fine and no issues..

i'm programitcally creating user using theSqlMembershipProvider. I am able to create users however now I want to be to assign them to a certain role once they are created. How do I go about assigning the newly created user to a role?
CODE to create user, works fine:

I am using the ASP.NET membership system and I have found the ability to 'add user to role' programtically, but I am wondering if there is a way of changing a user role?
I don't simply want to add a user to another role and I can't seem to find the 'remove user from role' command.
I have an ASP.NET website in which the user has the Login/Logout functionality. There are some pages which are viewable only if the user is logged in. Now, after the user signs out, I noticed that the user is still able to see this restricted page on pressing the back button. I want to create the functionality such that once the user signs out, the page should not be viewable. How can that be done?
P.S I am not using built in Login controls in ASP.NET
I need to create .net membership user instance for a database living in a different server than the one I'm coding in. What is the best way to do this?Should I do it though Sql Server stored procedure? or should I use a separate provider (therefore having 2) in my web.config?
I need to create this user without using the "create user wizard".
I want to include the login page in one of the web page .The login user accounts should be used from gmail or yahoo ID's .

View 2 RepliesI am using forms authentication to protect a website and would like to set it so when someone uses the registration form that the account created is disabled and an email is sent to me notifying me of the new signup. Then I can go and enable the account.
I am very new to this but have gotten the basic registration form and login form working with my SQL 2008 Server but this is a bit above me and I have looked through the MSDN info on the CreateUserWizard and don't see options for this.
I am currently playing with DotNetOpenAuth to make an ASP.NET (C#) website use OpenID instead of the normal login-password routine for user and session handling. Up till now, I have added the DotNetOpenAuth.dll into my project and tried a test login page with the following: <rp:OpenIdLogin ID="OpenIdLogin1" runat="server" />
When I run the page, I enter a valid myopenid url and the website redirects to the myopenid page, where I enter my password, and upon success, it returns back to my default.aspx, due to the following in my web.config:
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms defaultUrl="/Default.aspx" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx"/>
</authentication>
Now that the user is "logged in", how can handle my session? At the moment, I don't know how I can, for example, check if the session is still alive or how to terminate the session. My basic question is, how can I manage the session once the user is authenticated with OpenID ?
[Update]
I am now using the following to check for authentication: HttpContext.Current.User, and with that I can now check if a user is authenticated with a session. Now is there a possible way on how I can "link" user details that are stored in my database with an openid account?
I have a Google Document in the following path.[URL] Once i click on the link i am directed to a page where google asks for the username/password of the above document.I had created a test username/password in gmail.which i can send to you all usgbctester@gmail.com and the password being usgbcpassword. I hav a button click event wherein i need to open the above link bypassing google asking for username and password.I should be able to hardcode the username and password in the button click event.
View 1 RepliesI am using ASP.NET 3.5 and SQL SERVER 2008. And I have a very simple code within my ASP.NET page :
Quote:
[code]....
The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database. Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.
I tried googling this and have had no luck. I would like to implement membership roles without any reference to email accounts or smtp. Does anyone have information on this topic?
View 4 RepliesI am using the SQLMembershipProvider for authenicating users for my web site. I would like to change the default message that is displayed when a user signs in but who's account is disabled. By default, it shows:
Your account has not yet been approved. You cannot login until an administrator has approved your account.
Is there a property for the Login control that allows me to change this message programmatically.
I have a web page where I only want controls to appear under certiain conditions. I know I can set the visible property to false but it still takes up space on my page, and I would like to take it out completely. Is there a setting to do this? I have tried Controls.Remove(Button1); but this code doesn't seem to work.
View 5 RepliesI have created my menu items using web.sitemap, asp:sitemapdatasource control and asp:menu control. I'd like to programmatically remove some of the parent menu's based on certain conditions (I'm guessing it will be under the MenuItemDataBound event).
I know how to remove child menu items, not sure how parent menu items can be removed.
Our IIS server (v7) has the following settings in [Custom HTTP Headers] for our whole site:
Pragma: no-cache Cache-Control: private, no-cache, no-store, max-age=0, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET
Out of the whole site, there are some pages that require the "no cache" setting to be removed for them to work properly. This was done manually by our IIS Administrator until recently. Now we were told that we need to do it programmatically on our end. The following were the code snippets (VB.NET) we have used with no luck in success.
Method-1
Response.Headers.Remove("Pragma")
Response.Headers.Remove("Cache-Control")
Response.Headers.Add("Cache-Control", "private")
Response.CacheControl = System.Web.HttpCacheability.public
Method-2
Response.ClearHeaders()
Response.Headers.Clear()
Response.CacheControl = "Public"
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public)
Response.Cache.SetAllowResponseInBrowserHistory(True)

I am using the CreateUserWizard to create users in my new project (I am a complete newbie), but the wizard currently requires information from the user that is redundant for what I need. For example, I don't want security question & answer in my form, but I am not sure how to remove them. If I just remove the text fields, it says they are missing. I am pretty sure I know how to require further information, but I am not sure how to remove some of the defaults from the wizard. Removing the columns from the SQL server shouldn't be a problem.
So, I am looking for a place to edit which information it should gather (and removing some of the defaults) and the SQL insertion code so I don't gather information I will never need and use.
I am using PasswordRecovery to reset a password and email it to the user.
I am sending an email programmatically with PasswordRecovery1_SendingMail.

I have page with a LinkButton on it that when clicked, I'd like to add a Usercontrol to the page. I e. The Usercontrol consists of three dropdownlists. The first dropdownlist has it's auotpostback property set to true and hooks up the OnSelectedIndexChanged event that when fired will load the remaining two dropdownlists with the appropriate values.
My problem is that no matter where I put the code in the host page, the usercontrol is not being loaded properly. I know I have to recreate the usercontrols on every postback and I've created a method that is being executed in the hosting pages OnPreInit method. I'm still getting the following error:The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phasesHere is my code:
bool createAgain = false;
