Security :: Upload Control Encryption Of Files

Jun 2, 2010

i was looking for a solution in which i need to encrypt all file uploaded in my upload controls, so when ever any intruder tries to view the files directly in its destination folder, they can't open it, and the only way they can open the files is by going to the website and downloading it there, of-course after they have log in into the website. i just become curious to change the Attributes of the Destination folder on its Advance Properties to "Encrypt content to secure data", yes indeed the files are encrypted including the newly uploaded files and indeed i can't open them directly in the Destination Folder, but i can't also open them when i try to download them in the website,

Security :: Encryption Algorithm - Encryption Of Data Required In The Coding?

Sep 16, 2010

Not sure if I'm posting the question in the right category.

1) I'm working in a project where encryption of data is high priority. Could some one suggest what would be the best encryption method to protect data from being cracked.

I'm using TCP/IP protocol.

2) Is HTTPS totally secured. If I'm using HTTPS, does that mean that there is no encryption of data required in the coding?

C# - Unable To Upload Files Through File Upload Control?

May 31, 2010

i am trying to upload files through the ASP.NET File Upload control.

Every thing is working fine, except for the fact that when i try to upload the file on the server i am getting an error: (probably some authorization exception).

do i need to give some rights to the upload up there on the server. If so then for which account and do i need to restart the server after giving rights?

Security :: Cannot Upload Files To The Folder

Dec 16, 2010

In my website I have a page to upload files. It works fine when I run the website on my local machine and also in visual studio in the server. But, I cannot upload files when I access the website through the browser. I have given all the pemissions I know to the upload folder like - ASPNET, Network Service and IUSR. I am using IIS 6. It is a dedicated hosting. I can access all the pages, but only the upload does not upload files to the folder and it goes to the error page (but I don't know what is the error).

Security :: File Upload Failing For Desktop Files?

Jan 6, 2011

Iam using a file upload control for uploading files in my asp.net application. iam using the following code to impersonate the users who do not have permission for the files to upload. The code works fine for all the files, but it is not working for the files which are in desktop.

Code in .cs file:

System.Security.Principal.WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext;
impersonationContext =
((System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity)User.Identity).Impersonate();
//Insert your code that runs under the security context of the authenticating user here.
impersonationContext.Undo();

In web.config iam using the following:

<identity impersonate="true" />

Configuration :: Custom Config Files Encryption

Mar 24, 2011

I have a couple of configuration files flxConnection.config and flxSecurity.config files which are being referenced from the Machine.config file like below.

<securitySettings configSource="flxSecurity.config" />
<connectionStrings configSource="flxConnection.config" />

I would like to encrypt the files (a) flxSecurity.config and (b) flxConnection.config using the RSAProtectedConfigurationProvider using a custom RSA key, which can be deployed to other servers. How is that possible? If possible, looked at a variety of stuff in the internet and they all seem to be referring to either Web.config or Machine.config encryption which is pretty straight-forward. This is how the flxConnection.config looks like,

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<connectionStrings>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated
Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>

This is how the flxSecurity.config looks like,

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<securitySettings>
<add key="APC_APP_ID" value="apcrpt"/>
</securitySettings>

SQL Server :: Uploading .pdf Files With File Upload Control And Then Saving To Database

Oct 25, 2010

I'd like to allow users to upload a .pdf file via the file upload control (if that's the best method), save the file to the db and then retrieve it so they can click on a link and open the .pdf they've uploaded. I've been looking for a tutorial on how to do this but keep running into methods of saving the file directly on the server in a directory, not in SQL server (using Linq and VB by the way)

Web Forms :: Files Uploaded Via The File Upload Control Get Virus Scanned If Antivirus Is Running?

Jun 29, 2010

We are going to start accepting resumes online but I need to know if the uploaded files will be virus scanned before I park them into the database. I thought this would be a server thing but the server admin and the security guy both said they didn't know. We already have a firewall and antivirus software, I just want to know how things work with native ASP.Net controls and not a product to try.

Security :: AES 256 Bit Encryption?

Jul 24, 2010

I would like to use the System.Security.Cryptography to encrypt / decrypt my passwords strings for my custom membership provider login.I've read some basic article's but they don't explain much about the process in detail. I've decided to use AES because it is said to replace DES encryption. How can I encrypt and decrypt my password strings in the strongest way possible with AES? I would really like a very detailed explanation about the method to use for this task.

Security :: Upgraded .Net From 1.1 To 2.0 - MD5 Encryption Is Different?

Mar 19, 2010

I inherited a ASP.Net website. Some changes need to be implemented. The login for the application is encrypted using the md5cryptoserviceprovider class. After upgrading to 2.0, the password is no longer encrypted the same as when it was 1.1.

I left the 1.1 virtual directory and it's still working. On the same box, I loaded the 2.0 code and setup a new virtual directory (which isn't encrypting the same as 1.1).

I copied the section below from the 1.1 machine.config section into the web.config and the 2.0 machine.config.

<machineKey validationKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps" decryptionKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps" validation="SHA1"/>

Here is the code that is generating the hash.

MD5CryptoServiceProvider encryptionServiceProvider = new MD5CryptoServiceProvider();

var bytes = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(inputString);
