Security :: Using Roles With Windows Domain Login?
Dec 7, 2010
I've built a windows 2003 server at work with SQL server 2008, we normally login to a domain of which I don't have administrator access. Is there a way I can build and use a database of Roles to work with logged in users?
I was wondering what the following error means: Login Failed. The Login Is From An Untrusted Domain And Cannot Be Used With Windows Authentication. Initially, when my application was much simpler, I had no permissions and roles and my authentication mode was set to "windows". Afterwards, however, I added authorization, changed the authentication mode to "Forms" and ever since, when I try to login, I get the error above.
I want to get username and machine name of local computer logon to domain. So, how can I get it?My site has annonymous access checked in IIS. cause this application is for the Internet not our company's Intranet.for example, I logon to domain (test.com) in the local computer name is PC1, with the account and pass is: client1 and 1234567.I visit my website, now I want to get user and computer name to show up on asp.net.
I want to make my domain administrators the administrators to my web application so that they are the only ones that can change content. All other users would simply be able to read the material. I am relatively new to web apps and I can not seem to find what I am looking for anywhere on the net.
We have a website for our company on one domain and we have a login form to a webmail solution on another domain. Now i would like to build a form on our website the transfers the request to the login form on the webmail domain and automatically validate the user if user and pass are correct.Need help to find the correct way of doing this. The domains is hosted by our company, the website and webmail is on different servers. I don't want to use the querystring,
I'm currently integrating a web application into a customers network. The application has been successfully used many times. But here we've got the following problem:If the login page is requested just by the hostname everything works fine, but if the FQDN is used the login page just reloads withous doing anything. There's no error displayed.http://hostname:port/Login.aspx => fine
http://hostname.intern.customer.domain.foo.com => doesn't work, no error (The FQDN is quite long)
I have used .net login control to authenticate user,i have three types of role ,role1,role2 and role3 and i have users and user have different roles.
now my requirement is like as per loggedin user i want to redirect user on particular page as per role.
for example if loggedin user role is role1 than he will redirect default1.aspx for example if loggedin user role is role2 than he will redirect default2.aspx for example if loggedin user role is role3 than he will redirect default3.aspx
and one question if same user may be have more than one role than what should happen???
I got a solution for same than if we are used "loggingin" event than it would be possible but i had placed login control in login view anonymous template because as per my requirement i want that after successfull login user can't see login control on page.thats why i didn't get the login control event on code.
I have created 3 different folders (admin, user, viewer) in my site and each has a different template (masterPage). I created user and roles which are admins, users, and viewers. I assigned each role to a user in .Net administration Tool.
What I need to do is to allow each user to access his page only and deny access to others , except for the admin who can access all pages.
I have been trying to avoid the windows login userid and password window when I use the Windows Authentication mode for a web site. I need to capture the the windows logon user name without prompting for the user id and password and display that on the web site. I had tried almost everything... changed authentication, security setups on IE and IIS etc... still not being able to avoid the window...
My intranet web application uses Forms Authentication. How do i get the Active directory domain nameusername of the logged in user. The IIS directory security settings for the app are:
Anonymous User Access : Ticked Integrated Windows Authentication : Ticked
I tried using the following but to no avail
System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name ----> returns NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE Request.LogonUserIdentity.Name -----> returns The username used for anonymous access
ineed to pass this information to an external application for the current user to gain access to the system. Can i untick Anonymous user access in IIS and continue using forms authentication? what are the other options.
I have two different web sites in Intranet zone. They are placed in one domain (like http://site1 and http://site2.site1). They use Windows Authentication for common domain (like mycorpUser1, mycorpUser2, mycorpUser3).First web site(http://site1) have iframe element with hyperlink to second web site(http://site2.site1). When user loads first web site he needs write login and password twice. How to make that http://site1 and http://site2.site1 ask authentication only once?
I need to create an application with Forms Authentication and/or Windows Authentication. If the application is set to use mixed authentication (Forms + Windows Auth) and the user don't have a Windows user account, the login will fail and he must be redirected to a forms login page. How can I do this?
Are there any different way to provide mixed authentication?
I have a site witl forms authentication using te login control. I altered my sql server, I added a connectionstring and used the connectionstring in both, <rolemanager> and <Membership>. That part of the web.config is listed below.
The problem is that the login control goed to SQLserver to check the users and their passwords, but it goed to the SQLExpress database for the roles.....
I have users that belong to more than one role and I have a login view for those roles but I only see the first role's content.
How should I be going about getting to see all content for the roles that user is in? My user logs in and is a member of MACED and ADMIN but only sees the links for MACED
I have a small website that uses the asp login control and now i want to allow a user login from another website that i have. The problem is the other website is only html not aspx and i'm not sure how to write the form to login. here is the login i'm currently using:
[Code]....
once the users click login the form post back to the server and verifies the credentials and retrieves the necessary information. How can i login to my website from the other website?
I have a sitemap of 5 items. 2 items i only want the admin to see. I want the user to be able to login and the system recognise who it is and if an admin, bring up the 2 items in the sitemap. If not an admin, hide the items.
I can access the website I've created on my local machine in debug mode; and with my domain account as a local administrator, if I do this:
[Code]....
I can still access the website; and with my domain account in a Domain Group named "DomainDomainLocalSecurityGroup", if I do this:
[Code]....
I can still access the website; HOWEVER, if I create a Local Group on my machine named "LocalMachineGroup" and I add "DomainMyDomainUserName" to this group and I do this:
[Code]....
I get an Access Denied error trying to access the website. What I want to do is, have a group on my local machine (for testing), on a test web server, and on a production web server named "MyWebsiteUserAccess" with the same Domain Group (filled with Domain Users allowed access to the site) in all of these local groups; so that when I test the web application on my local machine, on my test web server and on my production web server, I don't have to change the Web.config file to have it work on each AND if the Domain Group name ever has to change, it won't affect access to the website.
What am I overlooking or is this even possible to do this way? I understand that there is a way to do Role Management through ASP.NET but I don't understand that well enough yet to implement that (and will probably go that route once I've done the research on how to best implement it for purpose of access control of this intranet site).
I have an interweb web application that uses Active Directory to authenticate the user. Im now getting some complaints that users on other domains are unable to access the application.
How can i make it work so that their domain name is also accepted by the application?
I am trying to build a login page as follows. On the machine on which i want to host the application i have a windows administrators group in which some windows domain users are.Now on building the login page i only want those people to access the application on login. What is the best way to acomplish this.
My feeling says it's not posible but anyway I am curious if there is at least a workaround for accomplish this.Basically I am working at my client site and my machine is not connected to the domain. What I want to do is running a web application locally under a domain account, and using the webdev server. The webapp uses the default authentication, windows authentication that is.I tried using impersonation with domainuser & password but I got the following error Could not create Windows user token from the credentials specified in the config file. Error from the operating system 'Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.I have to mention that the username and the password are correct.
I have developed an Interanet web application using the windows Active directory authentication if user find then it automaticaly authenticated working correctly now my user wants the capability of being able to login to the intranet site as another user by providing the username and Password . For example, Team lead needs to login on other team memeber System to pefrom some task on his behalf if he or she is not aviable in office .
I have created a standard MS Login Page. However when I try to login on the page only by providing the Username system authenitcate the user ( not validating the password of that user)
On my Intranet page I want to be able to recognize the user by their Windows Domain login. I am using VB 2010 and ASP. I have several VB books but none of them cover this. If it isn't too much to ask could someone show me the way. I have a strong SYS ADMIN background and am pretty sure this will involve LDAP but that is about as far as I am.
