I am trying to create an Intranet application and I want my users to be able to log in with their windows account. However my organisation has over 150000 employees but I only want the 10-12 people in my department to be able to log in.
How do I do this? Do I need to store the 10-12 users in a database?
I am using windows authentication in my web application. All we need is when the application will be executed it will launch login.aspx page. If users put correct userid and password(checked from active server directory) it will be redirected to a difference page. But if any unauthenticated user tries to access any other page in the application by typing the Url on the address bar it will be again redirected to the login page. We have to do this by changing our web.config file.I can achieve this using form authentication but not windows. But our requirement is windows. The requirement is very basic but all effort is just not working.

It works fine most of the time but some departments wont be able to access the site and will be asked to enter user name and password.I checked their Active Directory account and the only difference i could see was that the organizational unit parameter was different than the rest of the users.
View 5 RepliesOn our production servers, the admins created a WebUser active directory account which is users for anonymous access to IIS and is also used to authenticate database access with our SQL Server instances using Integrated Security=SSPI in the connection string and identity impersonate="true" in the web.config.
I've often come across situations where I would like to or even need to use forms authentication. However, I using forms authentication, Integrated Security seems to use the logged in user's credentials to authenticate against the database. In these cases I have changed the connection string to use the credentials of a SQL Server users instead. I would prefer to not have a hard coded username and password in the connection string or rather worse in code. Is it possible to use forms authentication just for user authentication for users and windows authentication with the IIS user for database access? What would be the best practice in such a situation?

View 3 RepliesI am developing one intranet website. Being an intranet application, one of the requirement is to have a single sign on feature.
It means that the windows PC username (i.e the "ctrl + alt + delete" username) is going to be the username for the system.
How do i fetch that username?
I tried the following two ways which are working in debug mode but not on live site.
System.Security.Principal.IPrincipal user = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User;
Response.Write(user.Identity.Name);
&
Response.Write(Request.ServerVariables["AUTH_USER"].ToString());
Both the above method works when i run the page from visual studio.
However when i run the page from IIS or any other server, it gives me a blank value
I set up forms authentication in my asp.net application, and everything works apparently without problems. However from time to time some of the users trying to log in inform me that suddenly they cannot enter anymore as their user seems to be deactivated. Even if they try the forgot password entry, they get "user not found" response, but if I check the user is still there, and according to asp.net configuration it is even active.The only solution I found until now to reactivate the user is to remove it and create it again, and then it works. But it cannot work like this of course.

I need to have a root web site using Windows Authentication and subweb under it as Forms Authentication. But when I access the subweb it still ask me for the Windows Authentication.
View 3 RepliesI have the following implementation and I'm sure there is an easy way to do what I want to do but I can't figure it out.
1. I use forms based authentication to authenticate to my site
2. I use active directory to authenticate the users
3. I use the Allow Users="xxx" tag to authorize the users limited to the list that can access my site. (e.g.. even though Mary is an AD user she can't access my site unless I put her credentials in the allow users tag in the web.config file)
All is working well but I want to move the users access list (e.g.. <allow users="john" />" from the web.config to a database table so that I can create a user maintenance page for my admins to add and delete user access. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do this and I can't seem to find an article on it either.

I have to invoke SSIS packages from web service in the most secure way. I think that windows authentication will be secure but i am not sure. I do not have much knowledge about how to achieve this and the information on the internet is very distributed.
View 1 RepliesWe use Sharepoint to control our websites. We build the sites, then load them into the sharepoint server. My question is if I use windows authentication, how can I get my role security in my web config file to coencide with the asp.net controls that use the Forms authentication. Is there a differenence? Our security uses a session variable for security but there is no where to set up their permissions except in active directory. I hope this makes sense because I would like to implement the LoginView with Role groups but how can I give them the role="administrator"? Do I have to go into active directory and give them these permissions(would take awhile due to the size of the company)? Or do I have to set up priveladges in the web.config file for each user(difficult I think)?

I am aware of the AuthorizeAttribute, but this only works on methods. I also found a good post on doing this with the MVC pattern, but I'm not using MVC. This can be done with roles in forms based security. I read on MSDN that using windows based security means roles are based on groups, but it doesn't go into any detail. how can I restrict access to Safe/UCantSeeMe.aspx?

We have an Active Directory account and that account we are using to log in to windows. I have a simple system that needs authentication using the IIS log in box (i dont know what do you call this but what I know is it only comes out when Anonymous user is unchecked in the IIS configuration.) Now, I want this box to appear before my page and the user will be authenticated and be compare to the user who logged in to the windows. If the user who have been authenticated is the same as the user who logged in to the windwos then we will let him in if not he must be denied in accessing the page.
The first problem I have in my mind is how to code it in asp.net to make an authentication when he will try to access my page.
Second is, let us say we have succeeded to show the authentication box, how can I get the username from the log in box and compare it to the user who logged on in windows. Of course we can get the user id of the logged in user from the windows using User.Identity.Name but how about the username from the log in box.
Note: I will not use log in forms even using https. Just the log in provided by the IIS according to the configuration.

IIS and SQL server are on different server. Running as userA on another computer, I try to access the website. The website log told me the website was trying to login to the SQL server with NT AuthorityAnnoymous despite I specified to use integrated security and Annoymous login is disabled in IIS.

After installing the app on a 32-bit Windows Server 2008 box the users are now prompted for domain credentials every time they call the site. I went into IIS manager for IIS7 and disabled anonymous authentication and enabled windows authentication. What do I need to do here for the user to not be prompted for the credentials?
