May 16, 2010I have a label inside an update panel which I wouldl ike to use as a status bar.
Basically the user clicks a button which executes a main fucntion that performs a series of tasks. I'd like to inform the user as to the state of the function as it progresses e.g.:
Stage 1: Retrieving data...
Stage 2: Calculating values...
Stage 3: Printing values...
Stage 4: Done!
I've tried updating the updatepanel directly from the function but it only updates the panel at the end of function (stage 4) and shows "Done!" (which I understand is how it should work).
Web Forms :: Timer Executes Page_Load That Should Execute Javascript Function But Does Not Work?
Feb 10, 2011I am using a Timer with a 3 minutes interval. I am exeuting the Page_Load event every 3 minutes. I am doing that this way as I have all this code inside an UpdatePanel1 which causes
a partial unnoticed postback to the server. I have a lot of code in the Page_Load event that I haven´t put here.
But what does not work is the code I have in the Page_Load event now.
I am trying to execute the javascript function with this line: body1.Attributes.Add("Onload", "startbk()");
This function should start an imageButton to change image between 2 images. This function do works if I refresh the page so the function itself do works.
But it seems this function does not execute when the Timer executes the Page_Load event, so this is my problem how I can solve this?

for this button, i have written a javascript function:

In the code behind of the other page, it has to check if the value of the cookie is set to "dontshowagain". If it is set to the value, the function should not show the popup again. My task is not to show the popup in different pages. If it is closed once, it has to stop showing again until the browser is closed.

May 24, 2010I have a page where, when the user has successfully logged in, I store some values in the session.
I then use these values to load an application list page. This page is automatically refreshed after 20.1 minutes, with the sessionstate timeout and forms timeout in web.config set to 20 minutes (with sliding expiration). This means, if the user does not use any page for more than 20 minutes, he is timed out.
My problem is that the User.Identity.IsAuthenticated sometimes returns true, when the session has expired.
Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?

Mar 1, 2010I have an Intranet web site that uses Windows Authentication and when a users password expires the do not get a prompt letting them reset it. We also have OWA and if they go there to check mail, it sends them to a page which allows them to reset it there. How can I trap for expired passwords and allow them to change it like they can with OWA?

Reason: The ticket supplied has expired" in Event Viewer. this keeps coming 1-2 times for every minute. this is the full message. this also made the response time increased it seems.

Sep 3, 2010I usually like to do it the hard way,just to get a feel of what you can do!In ASP.net there is probably a really simple way Forms authentication etc.but this is what I have.I know from previous experience that you should never save a Cookie that contains a password,so how to connect a session to a cookie when the user accesses the website,with saved cookies information.
I though about using a Guid,in the cookie,and then check the database to see if that guid is available,but this could be a sort of password like effect.

Nov 6, 2010I have a bunch of applications that currently share the authentication cookie in v3.5.
We're in the process of upgrading to 4.0 and also upgrading the applications as a whole. I have 1 done, and would love to deploy it. However, as soon as I do, I lose my sharing of authentication cookie in that application.
In each web.config, my machine key is declared. I removed the actual keys to protect the innocent. :)

How To Decrypt Public ASPXAUTH Cookie And Security

I have to make the ASPXAUTH string "public" in the sense that it will be in the HTML of the page. My question is, how secure is this?
I understand that anyone that can get to the string in the HTML can probably get to it from the cookie just as easily, but let's say someone does have this ASPXAUTH string. Is it possible that they can login as another user using this cookie? Would they be able to decrypt it?

Dec 13, 2010We have had a bug recently where users are logging into an application with multiple browser tabs. They are editing a content page which means that they can be working on a page for sometime (ie with no postbacks) They finally click save and because the session has timed out it takes then to login page. I initally resolved they by adding a reminder that the session is about to expire which initally resolved the issue. It has been noted that even when they are within session time out they still got redirected to login page (and loosing the data on the form). We had real problems replicating the issue but have finally managed to do so now and I have learnt some curous features of .net Forms Authentication.
I have set up a test project which has the membership controls on etc. I have set the Timeout on the <forms> tag

My Question is: How can I override this bit of functionality?
Is there a property to set somewhere to "Always renew cookie"?
Is there another workaround. Unfortunately I can't increase the timeout because of a complience issue (it must be set to 15 minutes)
