Security :: Want To Redirect User Based On The Login ID?

Jan 26, 2010

i am using asp.net membership. when users arrive at my sight they can enter user name and password.

I then want to redirect them to a page called "MyAccountPage.aspx" which is unique to them. could someone post the c sharp code that I can use to capture the Unique Id of the user is it best to then pass this as a parameter to a control on the aspx page that displays data for that user. am I correct in thinking that I need a UserId column in my data table as well.

Security :: Redirect User After Login?

Jul 6, 2010

Ok, I have been trying with this for many days now and read countless posts on this subject but I still cannot get it working.

I have created 2 roles and memberships one for admin and one for users, as you can guess I want to direct admins to a admin page and users to a user page. When a user logs on, it works fine, whether it's an admin or user, but they both present the home page, default.aspx

I know you have to have a redirecturl, to direct the user to the relevant page, either admin or user, but where and which webconfig would you put this in? I have seen in some post that you need a protected void or a role line in a webconfig file, but I have tried both these and countless other bits of code in different webconfig files. Before you ask about validation, I know this works as the user can log in, but just wont go to the relevant page.

Directorty structue I have is as follows:

Account folder contains - ChangePassword.aspx, ChangePasswordSuccess.aspx, Login.aspx, Register.aspx, Web.config

Webconfig contains

[Code]....

Admin folder contains - default.aspx, Web.config

webconfig contains

[Code]....

Registered folder contains - default.aspx, Web.config

webconfig contains

[Code]....

Security :: How To Redirect Logged In User Based On Role

Nov 25, 2010

I want to know how can i redirect a user to a different page when he tries to access a page restricted to another role?

The scenario is as follows:

I have a folder "Gestao" that only allows users in role "Administrator"

[Code]....

If an anonymous user tries to access that folder he is redirected to the login page, but if a logged in user whose role is "friend" tries to access this folder he is also redirected to the login page. I want to redirect him to a page showing a message that he has no permission to access that page/area.

How can I do that? Should i have code on the Page_load event of the login page checking the user role and then redirect him to the correct page? Or is there some otherway to do this?

Security :: Page Redirect When User Login?

Mar 24, 2010

I got a role call "Staff", staff registration is done by admin so when creating a new staff only need their name, user name, password and e-mail. After registering, i wan to redirect the staff to the creating profile page to input their contact number and self-description which is a must for later use. For first time login staff, how do i compare and see if the contact and description profile is empty or not? If it is empty, then redirect to the create profile page, else just go to staff page.

I trying to do like making each different role redirect to their own page once they had login. For now when the user login they will remain in the same page showing the login template. How do i do that?

[code]....

Security :: How To Redirect To Specific Page Based On User Roles

Sep 12, 2010

I am using Formsauthentication. My situation is as per below:

the login form has codebehind :

protected void LoginButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
TextBox uname = Login1.FindControl("UserName") as TextBox;
TextBox pass = Login1.FindControl("Password") as TextBox;
CheckBox rm = Login1.FindControl("RememberMe") as CheckBox;
Literal fail = Login1.FindControl("Literal1") as Literal;
if (Membership.ValidateUser(uname.Text, pass.Text))

[Code].....

Now the problem is that when I try to login with proper credentials it first redirects to default.aspx( there is no such page in my project), after login again with same credentials it properly redirects to the correct page. Why such problem arises? to fix this?

Security :: Redirect User Based On Role To Specific Web Page?

Apr 22, 2010

I'm not sure if this is possible or not, I'm using Roles to limit what pages a user can access based on there assigned Role. My question, is there anyway to redirect the user to a specific web page based on thier role after they login.

For example:

If Bob logs in with Role="Automotive", I want him to be redirected to Auto.aspx.If sue logs in with Role="Clothing", i want her to be redirected to cloths.aspx.

Nov 19, 2010

How would I go about to solve this:

When the user clicks a button and the user has been inactive for too long (session is gone), then redirect the user to the login page and back to the current page after logging in?

Is there a built in solution to this or do I have to do it manually? If so, how?

Security :: Getting The Login Function To Redirect Depending On The User Logging In?

Oct 27, 2010

I am currently using the built in ASP login function... the destinationpageurl of that login function locates to "loginhome.aspx" for all users... but for one specific user ("Admin") it needs to link to "adminhome.aspx"... just wondering whats the best way to do this? Can I change the destinationpageurl of the login function depending on the user or creating an admin role so "If membershiprole = 'Admin' redirect to 'adminhome.aspx' End If" or can I just add some code behind the login function so "If User.login.Name = 'Admin' Then destinationpageurl = 'adminhome.aspx' End If" think I have already tried this on the login1_authenticate event but it didn't work

Security :: Login Form Rejecting Valid Login With Forms Based Security And Membership Service

Jan 21, 2010

I've set up a system with forms based authentication and using the asp:Login control. When I put in an invalid password I get the approriate invalid password message. However when I put in a valid password, it does nothing...just returns to the login page again. I'm triple checked the login info. There is no error message, and the invalid attempts counter doesn't increment. When I put a break point in the Login_LoggedIn event of the Login form, it hits it, but User.Identity.IsAuthenticated is false. I'm not 100% sure it should be true at this point, as I'm pretty new to .NET but it seems kind of odd.

My user database is stored in a sqlserver 2005 db that already existed. I've added a new connection for it.In the authorization I have

<authorization>deny
users="?"/><authorization>

Security :: Allow Clients To Login To Website And Connect To Specific Server Based On Login

Jul 5, 2010

We have created a windows application which is distributed amongst our clients. The application uses SQL Server 2008 as the back end and each client uses their own database on their own server. The databases are all exactly the same but each clients data is specific only to them.

We would like to offer our clients the ability to log-in to our website which would then login to their own database so that when they are out in the field they can perform similar tasks to what they can do with the windows app.Each of the clients databases has a user table containing their login details, permissions etc.

Our server is running on IIS and has SQL Server 2008 installed but it only contains our data and nothing of the clients.How should we go about this?

What I mean is do we need to make each client have an additional login to our main server which would then hold each clients individual connection strings etc which would then be used to connect to there specific database and then they would need to login again?? Seems like a nightmare for the user.

Security :: Secured Site Using The Login Control / Do Not Want Them Redirected Based On Their Login Status?

Mar 24, 2011

I am doing a simple secured site using the login control. I would like users to be redirected to their dashboard page once they log in, but after that if they choose to browse I do NOT want them redirected based on their login status. I am using the generic template provided in VWD with the basic login setup in the template including the tabbed ASP menu control - nothing fancy, nothing custom. This is intended to be something very simple and quick. Here is the code I am using for the page load...

[Code]....

So if I do this code WITHOUT the "IsPostBack", logged in users are always redirected to their dashboard and cannot see the hompage. However with that IsPostBack test, the redirect after initial login doesn't work.

I know this is extremely basic and simple, but I am restarting with this stuff after a year away, and I need a nudge.
