I'm trying to test the login control without writing any code. According to Murachs book, you can drag and drop the login control onto a Login.aspx form. Use the ASP Configuration Security tool to create user, roles, and access rules for the website. And you should then be prompted for authentication. I created two folders in my website, admin and users. The admin folder has a admin.aspx form and the users folder has a users.aspx form. I also edited the access rules to only allow admin to access the admin.aspx and only allow user to access the users.aspx form.

I'm working on a project that requires registration and login. I know that ASP.NET provides login controls to get that job easily done. However, I'd like to implement custom registration and login. I mean my own registration and login forms and my own database. I've researched before posting this topic, but found nothing useful teaching me how to implement those functions. Can you guys tell me the way to implement them using LINQ and VB? OR can you give me the URL of the tutorial teaches exactly what I want?

i currently develop an asp.net mvc 2 web app using asp.net membership and role management for authenticating and authorizing my users. I get complaints though that when adding a role to some user, he is not able to see new role assigned functionality, unless he re-enters (logout and login again) the application.

I'm trying to write a simple login page, that will allow my users to login to my site using their Active Directory credentials (using their username / password we give them through AD).
I want to do 2 things with the login:
1. I want to check the username / password against our AD and verify the person is a valid user within the directory.
2. I also want to store the entry within a global variable so when the user fills out one of the forms within the site it can Insert the data into a SQL table i have running.
** we are using this site to do Setup Change Request Forms / Termination forms etc. and I just want to verify the person signing off on the form is the person logged into the machine -- use it as an "electronic signature per say".
I'm using a vb.net 2.0 approach - as i only have access to visual studio 2005 and i'm more of a vb programmer then a c#.
If anyone has any examples or can walk me through how to go about writing out this page that would be great.

I'm using asp.net's built-in membership provider with security question-and-answer enabled for password recovery against a SQL Server 2005 db. For some users, this works fine and they're able to receive their passwords. For others, and it's not clear what separates the two groups, the security answer is never properly processed. It doesn't matter if the answer is correct or incorrect, the page merely reloads without confirming or denying the request.As for events, VerifyingAnswer is being triggered, but not AnswerLookupError (if answer is incorrect) or SendingMail (if answer is correct). I ran a SQL trace during one instance, and the aspnet_Membership_GetUserByName stored procedure is being called, but nothing else gets called after. I would expect that aspnet_Membership_GetPassword would be called, which passes the security answer as a parameter, but it isn't.

I want to enable newly registered users on a site. I have figured out to put "DisableCreatedUser="True"" on the CreateUserWizard. What I have no idea about is how to have an email sent to the administrators email to notify them that a new user has registered.

I need to learn the following security-related questions pertaining to ASP.NET membership system (which I am currently using):
1) How to set up "secure" log-in for site members (when other sites say "secure login", what exactly is meant?) --- is that easy for a novice programmer to set up?; are there third parties?; is this done in collaboration with the site host?...Or by using the ASP.NET member system (which I have already set up), is that by default "secure" already?
2) When signing members up, what is best way to block out spammers from the registration process? Is there also third party software I can use? Perhaps someone can give quick answers to these, or point me in the right direction to read a good updated resource on this.

I've created a page to add users, using the CreateUserWizard, I use the Login Control to login.
I have setup the config file to use my SQL server, not express
<remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxxx;Password=xxxxxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I go to the create user page, add a user.
I can SEE the user on the database using Server Management Studio...
I go to signon and get "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."
I have not customized the login control in any way. (OR the createuserwizard)
HOW can I tell where the Login tool is going to get userid and password info?
How can I tell if it is not finding the user or the password does not match?

I have the following code for my page:
[Code]....
And the following .cs file associated with it:
[Code]....
I would like to be able to do the following in the .cs file for this page:
#1. Initially "Submit News" is disabled. The admin must click "Preview News" which will update the newslabel temporarily and also enable the "Submit News" button.
#2. When the "Submit News" button is clicked, the news.txt file should be opened and whatever content is currently in the newslabel.Text will be written to news.txt. The news will then be updated for anyone to see.
Right now, if I try to do "submitnews.Enabled = false;" is does not let me because it thinks that submitnews is not in the current context. Basically I need to know how to access elements that are within a <asp:LoginView> area.
