Sharing Web(.aspx) Pages Across Websites?
Jan 11, 2011I am looking for an tried-and-tested approach to share .ASPX webpages across websites. E.g. I have a generic error page which I would like to share between x.com and y.com sites.

View 3 RepliesWe have about 50 web-sites, running in different application pools, that read from a common cache database (using Microsoft Enterprise Library Caching application block). We currently have a console application which populates the cache at 3AM every morning. However, we want to get rid of this application and get the cache to automatically refresh expired items, using the ICacheItemRefreshAction interface.
We were going to create our cache object in the Global.asax of each of the 50 web-sites. However, my concern is that if we set a cache-expiration policy in Global.asax, that each of the 50 web-sites will trigger a refresh action, causing the data to be re-cached 50 times. We don't want only 1 web-site to set the expiration policies, as then the 49 other web-sites will have a dependency on that 1 web-site, and that's an architecture no-no.
I have a website A which has a link to website B which is currently opening in a different window. When clicked on a link to, the login for B is automatically taken care of as both the websites have same user login credentials.
Now a change in the system has made me embed website B into website A. ie., B will open in the same window of A.. I could achieve this using an IFrame. Now, the session from site A needs to be carried out to site B. Presently, when navigated from A to B, all the sessions on A expire. Once navigated to B the session time out of B from the webconfig is taken. I have used "InProc" as my state management option in web config. Is it possible to maintain single session for both the webistes? If not how to continue same session times for both webistes? I do not want to use "SQL server" state mode.
I have a scenario with three applications:
1) Portal: where user executes login
2) Site1: after login at "Portal" user is able to use Site1
3) Site2: after login at "Portal" user is able to use Site2
I just need to execute a validation in Site1 and Site2, to validate if they (users) did login at Portal1.
Something like (in site1 main page page_load).
{
if (notFromPortal)
{
//redirect to Denied.apx
}
}
How can I do this in a simple way? With cookies? Does somebody have a url with sample?
My security requirements are almost zero. I just wanna prevent that user put a url from Site2 in browser and see a Site2 page.
I am currently working on a project which involves three different websites with a lot of common functionality. At the moment the common functionality is placed in a different website full of user controls.
The problem is sharing the user controls across the multiple websites. Looking around on SO and other websites, the only solution seems the be using virtual directories. As this is a workable solution (we us this at the moment) it doesn't seem as a "clean" solution.
Which "best practices" exist on sharing common functionality (including the GUI/HTML) between different site?
Is it (for example) possible to create a single Web Application project and deploy subdirectories (each with their own web.config) to different production environments?
I have some menu html code that I want to share among several pages, so that if I change a menu item it gets updated across all pages.
Is this possible in VWB? I'm using the 2010 Express version.
In my website I have two files home.aspx and tab.aspx with code behind files home.aspx.cs and tab.aspx.cs. I have a table variable in tab.aspx.cs which needs to be sent to home.aspx.cs when I click a button on home.aspx.

I wrote a test page that does a bunch of busy work in a method called at page load. This process as I have it now takes around 12 seconds.
If I try to load another page while the first long running page is loading, this second page doing nothing except writing out a world, it doesn't load until the first long running page is finished.
Why is this the case? I would think IIS would be able to handle multiple concurrent connections, it seems crazy that one long running page would stop every other page in the application from loading. I must be missing something or not understand how IIS works.
I would think multiple independent requests would be spawned on different threads. Is this only the case if the requests are from different sessions entirely? Are all requests from a single session bound to a single thread?
I see on the bottom of blog pages a sharing buttons (Twitter and Facebook), where if clicked the link behind (which is normally the blog page url) the fshare button takes the clicker to the blog site facebook page respectively.
How does one do this in asp.net 2 , does one one use the <%# %> in the url part of these share buttons, are there any examples of how this is done?
the account we use to copy/publish websites to our web server is not allowing us access to push websites. I've added this account to the permissions in the links listed in the below link, but i don't have success when trying to push remotely. When the account is in the local admins account, everything works flawlessly, but we are not allowed to have it in there. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vssetup/thread/31be047e-4716-4974-b8a1-be0111b50199 I've googled and searched a lot for this particular error, but am not finding an answer that helps. We get this error, 'Unable to create the Web 'http://edea01/test/planning'. You are not authorized to perform the current operation', and the above link is the scenario that matches mine the most. I don't do develompment work, but am asked to figure out this connection problem.
View 3 RepliesHey as you guys know I'm not so good at CSS. I wrote a site for a business a friend is starting using it, I've got it hosted on the web now, but all the pages but Default.aspx ignore the CSS file.
View 4 RepliesI found that i can use Response.WriteFile to include them and most of the pages work, except that the login page is not working.
View 4 RepliesI know an ASP.NET app can have as many aspx pages as you want but after hitting a certain number of them (over 100) should I consider a different design? Or, as the months/years go by do I just keep adding more and more pages to my app?
View 3 RepliesI am using a shared hosting so I can't touch IIS, but is there anyway I could do in Global.asax or web.config that would redirect links like mysite.com/folder/ to a specific page?
View 1 RepliesI am developing a web-based Pokemon Online game. Since it is online, I would like to optimize it to run as quickly possible. I've installed Firebug and Page Speed minifying my HTML output. I'm also using VS2008, ASP.NET 3.5, AJAX, and IIS 7.5; along with URL-Rewriting. I want to minify my HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Optimally, I'd like the minifying process to happen at compile time. I've spend hours looking online but couldn't find a decent solution,
View 3 RepliesI've recently launched my page but the aspx files are not reading the cs pages. For instance, my login page has c# redirecting users based on roles, but it just ignored the c# and goes to default.aspx. Everything works perfect in the development environment..

View 2 RepliesI had an ASP.NET 1.1 application that I converted to 2.0. I deployed the application under IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server. I can browse images and static html pages but I can't browse .aspx pages. When I try to run any .aspx page, my browser says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". My application pool is set to .NET framework 2.0 with Integraded in Managed Pipeline mode.
View 5 RepliesHow do i get the pretty URL with an ASPX pages. I have listed a couple links below and their associated print page url. As you can see it resembles the Class instantiation method of declaring object but is used for a webpage with its extension.
I was wondering if this method can be used or if this is a URL rewrite to mask all the querystrings and sub directories being referenced. I remember doing stuff like this when i was working on a UNIX system using the .htaccess file to mask effective query
string being shown. I believe they called it a Clean URL, i maybe wrong as it has been well over 8 years since i dealt with the Unix .htaccess file and massaging urls with it.
For instance, look at the MSDN site pages:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.servicemodel.actionnotsupportedexception.aspx
Now when you want to print it:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.servicemodel.actionnotsupportedexception(printer).aspx
Now you select the same page but choose a different framework than its birth:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.servicemodel.actionnotsupportedexception(VS.100).aspx
and the print URL:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.servicemodel.actionnotsupportedexception(VS.100,printer).aspx
As you can see they are not visually passing query strings but more like Class parameters. Is this just a simple URL rewrite after the page is loaded so the user doesnt see the query string information?
Quick question... Is it possible to programmatically create and .aspx file on the fly, complete with Master page and user controls?
If it is, can anyone point me in the direction of how this can be done?
I'm wondering if you can use a lightbox with aspx pages? For my project, i'm trying to make some kind of search tool in that lightbox. On my default page , you have a img link that opens a lightbox (with an aspx page) In that lightbox, when you click a button (asp button), the page renders like a normal full browser page with the same content. The page should stay in that lightbox and rendering the results in a listbox. Is this possible? Or is this the wrong way?
