View 3 RepliesI am new in dot net i create a website. and managed session variable to stored logged-in user information.when someone close the browser, session still exit or db not update.
View 3 Repliesi am using session of username after login, it works fine usually, but sometimes it gets expiredon any pages randomly...it is expiring on both local host and the live server.
View 6 RepliesIs there any possibility to check whether a particular session has got expired or not?
View 1 RepliesI'm using the code below in the we.config file.
<sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="30"/>
There is no issue with the session expiration locally, but the same web application logouts frequently when I uploaded it to the webserver. The session no longer keep it's state for 30 minutes when the application left idle for some time.
when i run my web application in my system the session not expired during access of the pages, but when i launch application in the remote server the session expired during access of the pages
i specifiy the session time out in web.config as follows
<sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="30" />
But i don't know what the problem is
I receive the error message "Error: Your session has expired. Please refresh your browser." When I export a table in ASP to Excel. I know for a fact that the correct data to export exists. Everything works fine except for this error message. I don't see how the session on a browser could run out in a matter of the one second it takes for the Excel file to pop up
View 2 RepliesI work in a multi server , multi webfarm environment (without sessions). We need to be able to identfy if a customer has arrived here for the first or has been before (even though they have not logged in)Not only will we change the text of our salutations depeding on this state but we will also use it in other busness logic. I can check for the existance of a cookie when they fire the Session_onStart event but I would have to write a cookie out to show they had previously visited for the next time the customer came to call.
If I wrote the cookie out in the Session_onStart then somehow I would have to tell the website that this was a first time visit. Also as this is a stateless webfarm - the next server may be different from the previous one which would fire a new Session_onStart event in its own right - which would see the cookie and assume it was not my first visit, even though it was my first visit on a different web page of the web site.
I dont want to write it out and say if its within X minutes of the cookie creation time you are still in your first visit as that x minutes wouldnt work 100% of the time If I dont write the cookie out on Session_onStart then when could I write it out?
I'm having problems with the sessions states on my application.When I run the application off my c drive all the session variables are there. Everything works perfectly, nothing is wrong.However, when I publish the site to a server test environment, the session variables disappear. Why is this? Is there a way around this?Here is my codes.for retrieving it. Note, the session.count actually is 0.

I'm using the following line of code to display the number of users currently logged on:
lblNoOfUsers.Text = Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline().ToString()
I'm still debugging my application so it's on the local server. As I debug and stop then debug again, eventually lblNoOfUsers.text turns to "0" instead of "1", even as I'm navigating my application. It only turns to "1" again if I log out and sign back in. It's almost as though Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline my login are referencing two different session states. How is this possible? Does asp.net create a new session state cookie each time I start debugging?
i have 2 web application that resides in 1 IIS7 application via Virtual Directory, i hope to connect the 2 website via Session, my question is can i pass a session value from website 1 to website 2?
View 3 RepliesI read the solutioin for this error, at the following link :http://forums.asp.net/p/1046935/1576341.aspxbut I am still not clear what exactly causes the error. I have two doubts :1. Can anyone please elaborate a bit on this issue, with any example ????2. Is there any drawback of this approach ?
View 4 Replieswhen we accept user details in a login page and i want to use login details throughout the website.....can we do like this

it is giving error
we can't access in other pages
is it possible to create a new Session Id using C# and without using a Response.Redirect(...Page ... ). I want to create a new session Id on page load.
Reasons for doing so:
I have a testing application that creates IFrames to act as users. the problem I have is that with Multiple Instances (or Multiple IFrames running the same application "Default.aspx") all IFrame's are using the Same Session ID. I have variables stored in the Session ID that I need to be seperated from IFrame to IFrame. Ex:
IFrame 1 gets passed a query string of a client ID "1"
IFrame 2 gets passed a query string of client ID "2"
WHen the IFrame 2 gets loaded the session state of IFrame 1 inherits the IFrame 2's session's making the Client ID in Session 1 = "2". See what I am getting at?
I want to be able to have each IFrame create its own Session State. I guess there is 2 questions to this, 1.) is it possible to create a new Session State by abandoning the original and by doing so will that abandon both session ID's and just create an ID for both IFrames being the same ID? 2.) How can I do this if it is possible :-)
I added the following code to global.asax to load up several session variable when a session starts. I'm assuming that when a page goes to use the variable that I should be
1) checking at the page level that the value is valid not 0 when its not expected to be 0, not a zero-length string when its expected to have a length
2) have code at the page level that sets the values if the values have not been set as when the Session timeout, ideally putting the code in a class derived from Page and then deriving all of my pages from the new class so that the code does not have to be repeated in every page

I use some session variables to get the job done(shopping cart, etc) but it is not stable..manytimes I get no items in session object and other times(refreshing the page) I get missing data...I downloaded the entire site code to my local pc and debugged it and run it succesfully without any session data missing...When I run it in the server, I get bad session again: no products in shopping cart or products with missing quantities...
The same website runs smoothly in our production server too....The problem is with our development server...
I have some code in my page load event where I just want to fire once when the user opens the Browser. The only issue is if you open a new tab with the same website the session variable does not reset. Is there a way to reset the session variable when you open a new tab or do you have to take the whole web browser down for it to clear the session variable.
In Global Page:
[code]....
which place(exact folder) the session & session id will be stored?

now if user closes browser. the session does not get killed.
I spoke with friend and he said that cannot be done as sessions are on server.
but i see banking website who kills session when browser is closed.
I have been spending a better part of a week trying to track down why I am not able to clear all session variables in a web app (vs 2010, vb.net). What I have tracked it down to is that when I remove or abandon sessions that my html pages or codebehind access, it works, but for some reason in any of my class files where I use "Public Shared strConnection as String = HttpContext.Current.Session("strConnection").ToString" to access a session variable, it finds the old one and not the current one. I have to wait for it to time out, go in again, and it will find the new one.
I do not use Linq, and there is only one place in the whole web app that I place the connection string in a variable whcih is when a person logs in. It points them to the correct database. The sqlconnection is set for all of my listviews in Page_Init to make sure that they aren't using any session variable that they create on their own. Interestingly enough that if I use debug to go in each time, exit debug, enter debug again trying to access a different database, it works correct each time. I assume that debug is correctly killing the session variable for the classes for me.
since a have an app, that makes heavy use of AJAX (jQuery), I faced a problem of session timeout.
After a little bit of googling I found something like :
[Code]....
In the refresh page I have just this code :
[code]....
jQuery indeed calls refresh page, writes "success", however- session times out.
Am I doing wrong something? Is there a better way to prevent session time out?
I need to make my asp.net session cookie as secure but whenever i check user authentication and after that i am trying to set cookie to true then my session lost my user information and so it always redirect login page. I am settings user to HttpContext.Current.Session["user"] and check every time, is user is valid and if valid then move ahead. but before that i make my asp.net session cookie as true.
[Code]....
but after that i observe that somehow "Session_Start" event gets called.
I want to be able to persist data across a session but do this outside of the built-in session state object. Why is a long story that I will not go into here. I just need to know where I can put data other than in the session object that will persist across the specific session.
