Oct 25, 2010I have a system that has several large objects that need to be built and populated each and every time, and these objects may be accessed quite often as well. As a strategy, caching would not be that good for me because there are potentially thousands of these objects which are fairly large. So I propose to serialize the objects to the file system and then deserialize it when I need those objects again. I have several classes that need this serialization functionality.
These objects change as well, so on the next access I check if there were any changes and then I grab only the changes and edit the object, and then reserialize the object.
My question is what is the best way to do this, since I have several classes ..
State Management :: Recreate State Session Database In SQL Server 2008?
Apr 5, 2010Our ASP.NET App uses ASP State Session Management and has been rebuilt about 2 years ago [With .NET Framework 2.0]. We are currently in .NET framework 3.5 and have moved to SQL Server 2008 - but continue to use the same ASPState database. The State database has been upgraded to SQL Server 2008. Since then we have are seeing timouts/locks on ASPStateTempSessions table. I am wondering if we have to rebuild this database from scratch with some newer scripts?

Mar 28, 2011I have upgraded our system from .NET 1.1 to .NET 4.0. I also had to update the ASP Session State database to version 2 by running the following command in the command window.
aspnet_regsql.exe -S localhostSQL2005 -d ASPState -ssadd -sstype c -E
Is there any way that I can configure the MSI setup project to check the ASP.NET Session State and install version 2 if needed?

In the immediate window ? System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items("RepId") returns a String that is equal to "RepId".
Even if I change it to not be an object, but a string I only get the Name "RepId" of the keypair. I have NEVER gotten the actual value.
State Management :: Session Variables Become Null When System Time Changes?
Jun 15, 2010I need to refresh my webpage in case of a change in the system time. However I see that my session variables are becoming null when the system time changes. So I cannot perform the refresh action since my webpage requests a login.I am not setting the Session variables to null explicitly anywhere in the code. I can't seem to figure out how they are becoming null.

State Management :: Cookie / It's Cause The Sql Server Update Twice :|
Dec 22, 2010I have a website of online games and I try to count and show the number of the uniqe visitor per game page, by using Cookies only. (if someone visit after 24hr it will be uniqe visitor too)
the problems is:sometimes (I don't know why), not always, it's update the counter colomn of the game, +2 instead +1, and I don't know why, there isn't any "for loop" etc.. maybe is't because the url rewrite? but it work fine if people enter again the colomn will not update again, the problem is that is update +2 instead +1 (see the code at the bottom)this is my algorithm (something is wrong in this algorithm so don't use it):
1. put the query string in variable (the name of the game) - i'm using url rewite.
2. use this variable for select the game Name (and another information) from the database (and for the cookie I will use the game name from the database and not from the query string to avoid from capital letter problems, because cappital letter for the first word isn't good because words like of, to etc..).
3. for each pageload (there isn't postback in the game page) check if the cookie of the uniqe game exists
4. if not exists, create a cookie for the unique game (the name of the cookie and the his value will be same, because I don't care about it, it's only for check if the cookie exist, and I can't use one cookie for all the games because each time visitor enter the cookie will create for 1 day).
4. after this creation of the cookie try to find if the cookie exist (for cheaking if the user didn't disable the option for cookies)
5. if yes update the database column of the spesific game

In the end of the page_load - (the GameName is the virable of the name of the game from the database and not from the qury string).

State Management :: Can't Update Progress Object?
Oct 26, 2010Anyway, I currently have a ajax based progressbar, which works like this: my long-task stores progress in session. Async callback retrieves progress from session, progressbar is updated. Everybody is happy... not! This only works when the "main loop" of the time-consuming task runs in either codebehind or a class with httpcontext. But all my businnes objects cannot do such thing. So, the next natural spet would be to say "move it to a static class" ProgressHelper or something, but since static classes are shared across all appDomain, I would bump into concurrence problems. So, can i have say a "static list progress" say progress["session1_progress"], progress["session2_progress"], progress["sessionN_progress"]? I cannot really see a way to update progress from inside a task in a business object, which i might want to use also in other plattforms like a desktop app?

State Management :: Update User Control Property On Postback?
Mar 31, 2011I have created a user control with a property named CurrentPage. When a link button is clicked it runs PostbackToPage() and passes a command argument in which then sets the CurrentPage property with this new value. On the page which uses the user control I am trying to display the updated CurrentPage property after a postback. When I click the link button to cause the postback the CurrentPage is the default value. However when I click it again it works as expected. So it seems to only work after 2 postbacks. How can I get this to work after the first postback?

SQL Server :: Hide System Database In Management Studio
Sep 3, 2010I am using SQL server 2008 . What i all want is to create a uses that can only see the ABCDatabase in Management studio onced login. And to achieve that:
1- I have created a new user.
2- Deny View all database right to that user.
3-Set that user as Owner of ABCDatabase
Now on login that user cannot see other databases but still able to see the system databases. How can i hide those system databases from that user?

Dec 7, 2010I have a application where login details are in 1 database and user details are in another database.Different cities have different database with common login database.As soon as user logs in i save the connection string name of its associated city database in a Session to access through out the application.Was wondering if this is the best possible way to do this? Will this cause a problem in Web Farms? Please let me know what is the best possible way to save a value which can be accessed through out the website and till what time is the value valid or expires?

Nov 21, 2010I have a webpage which updates user information onto to the database, whenever they click the save buttonsince am using session variables in my page, data in the session variables is getting lost after 20mins if the session is idle, in order to keep the session alive am using the refresh option for every 5mins, after that the session variables are not lostNow my problem is whenever the page refreshes the user is losing all the data which is not saved, by means while the user is working on the page during the refresh all the textbox values are lostAny one has any solution for this? , can we extend the session variable timeout ?i tried this changed the session timeout to 60min in web.config as well, but still the session variable values are not persisting

Aug 2, 2010I´m about to program a common application/website scenario. It contains pages which are presented to users, and some business logic behind, with a database connection class.
My questions are:
Q1: Should the database class be singleton? If so, why? Because does it even matter when every single user is in their own process on the server, and therefore each user has their "own" singleton database instance?
Q2: How would you normally direct users around the site? Would the Default.aspx page create instances of the required classes? And when the user is directed to a new page, how would you normally refer to these instances?
Q3: What kind of general information do you save in the Session variable? Is it a big no-no to save class instances?
