I'm attempting to create Data Access Layer for my web application. Currently, all datatables are stored in the session. When I am finished the DAL will populate and return datatables. Is it a good idea to store the returned datatables in the session?
Note: generally the number of rows in the datatable will be small < 2000.

And in Data Access Layer I am making use of application block, but application gets a connection string from web.config; but ClassLibrary of Data Access Layer doesn't contain web config file. How can I access connection string from Data Access layer?

When i click button 1, a new list is created. But when i click button 2, it gives me error, saying that its a null list.
The changes i did in Button1_Click() are somehow rolled back. I want to keep the changes.
I have a small db table that has a data field that is used throught my web application. What is the best way to carry this value from page to page with out calling the table everytime the page if refreshed or a new page requests the value?
I am using VS2010 .net framwork 3.5 SQL Server 2008 and utilizing LINQ for my queries.
We have many instances in our application where we would like to be able to access things like the currently logged in user id in our business domain and data access layer. On log we push this information to the session, so all of our front end code has access to it fairly easily of course. However, we are having huge issues getting at the data in lower layers of our application. We just can't seem to find a way to store a value in the business domain that has global scope just for the user (static classes and properties are of course shared by the application domain, which means all users in the session share just one copy of the object). We have considered passing in the session to our business classes, but then our domain is very tightly coupled to our web application. We want to keep the prospect of a winforms version of the application possible going forward.

lblNoOfUsers.Text = Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline().ToString()
I'm still debugging my application so it's on the local server. As I debug and stop then debug again, eventually lblNoOfUsers.text turns to "0" instead of "1", even as I'm navigating my application. It only turns to "1" again if I log out and sign back in. It's almost as though Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline my login are referencing two different session states. How is this possible? Does asp.net create a new session state cookie each time I start debugging?
I am creating a web application that will be running on an infrastructure which will utilise a number of web servers, web gardens and a load balancer.
As the application is using Sessions, and that our application is using Oracle as the database, we would like to use the database to save the Session data. However, I am struggling to find any good examples on how to do this with Oracle.
I note that Oracle provides the following class: Oracle.Web.SessionState.OracleSessionStateStore, but I am unsure what I need to do in the Code Behind and what if any tables do I need to create in the database.
All we have a global ships position tracking website which runs smoothly until IIS application pool recycles.When there is workerprocess recycling looks like session state expires as a result i loose all session data and when customer clicks refresh button he is redirected to login page.
In web.config Session state mode is set to InProc so i changed it to State Server but to my luck i have MAP object which is not serialiazable which is causing the maps from not appearing on the website.I tried adding serializable attribute to the object class but still not succesfull.Our website is accessed by our customers whose count is more than 1000.
Changing the session state mode from InProc to StateServer can really slow down the response time so
Is it good to go further fix the serailizable issues and move to state server?.
Is there any way I can retain my session data when application pool recyles?..
Stopping Application pool from recycling may not be a good idea considering health factor of web server.

I am very new to asp.net. I developed one application. In that I have two pages. First page contains Application.Get() in page load event, here I read this Application variable, initially it returns NULL. If it is NULL, I make some buttons invisible. Then I jump to second page, in that page contains Application.Set(). Again I jump from second page to first page, this time Application.Get() is not NULL, I make some buttons visible.This is ok, if I execute the program in .net software.
But, when I publish this same program to web server like IIS, it is not working properly. After publishing very first time the first page returns NULL after that it doesnt return NULL even I closed the browser. I dont know why. In program, I used 2.0 framework. IIS also has 2.0 framework. Please clear this issue.

I am using a treeview in my master page and every node having link to its container page.That means click on any child node of treeview its redirect to another page by taking some value.
Now every time I click on nodes of treeview, its get collaps when child page loaded...
Now regaring maintain state of treeview across my web application...
I searched on this all morning, but I'm still not sure. If I create a session variable to pass some data between a couple of pages, does that variable time out after it reaches the timeout period set on IIS, or will it persist for the entire time the user keeps a session alive? For example, session variable is used shortly after login and then never again. Susy uses other pages for two hours and keeps session active. Did that first session variable die after 20 minutes, or is it still there 2 hours later?

View 6 RepliesI have two projects ,one is webforms and other is Business logic, i am storing username in Session Variable, i have audit module in businss logic which has event handlers to do auditing on object create / remove. i want to store username in audit trail, i want to save username in some global place which is session bounded so that i can get the username in my audit module.i dont want to refer System.web, or httpcontext in my businesslogic project.pls help how i can acheive this. i found this article but cudnt understand much.
"Now one option if you want to have your DLL pull the stuff from Session is to abstract out session. So you could define an interface like IStorage, that your library will know how to use. Then you can have a SessionStorage or MemoryStorage class and use IoC to inject the appropiate class into your library classes. This gives you the freedom to code it how you wanted it to be coded without tying your code to Session. Oh and one other benefit if done properly can be used to not tie your code to session in the web either.
