System.diagnostics And System.Debug Not Working From Page Method
Feb 1, 2010
We have a Page Method on a web page using ASP .Net. We tried to put in a trace statement using both System.Diagnostics and System.Diagnostics.Debug. In Visual Studio 2008, the break point is not even hit for the line, but other break points on other lines are hit.There is no output from either method that we can see.
There is also a Global.asax error catcher that works fine in other cases, but in the Page Method is not being catched.why a Page Method and System.Diagnostics do not play well together?

I have developed a ASP.NET C# web page which connects to remote conmputer command prompt using PSEXEC.exe and executes some command where the output of the command will get copied to the page. It works fine in the VS 2005 IDE.
If the page is accessed via IIS from IE, the task PSEXEC.EXE appears in task manager of the server with the system account privilege after the method is triggered but nothing happens.
find my present settings in IIS and others:
1. APP Pool Identity to Local System (Predefined) and also to a configurable admin account.
2. <processModel userName="SYSTEM" password="AutoGenerate" /> in Machine.Config file
Also I've tried impersonasation in web.config file to an admin account.

I am trying to use the unmanaged ImageMagick library in my ASP.NET application from the command line using System.Diagnostics.Process. Basically, users will upload an .eps file to the site, and then I will run the command line command to convert it into .jpg. This is the code I'm using to try and run the command:
Dim proc As New System.Diagnostics.Process
proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True
proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError = True
proc.StartInfo.FileName = "C:Program Files (x86)ImageMagick-6.6.1-Q16convert.exe"
proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False
proc.StartInfo.Arguments = String.Format("{0} {1}", Server.MapPath("~/logo/test.eps"), _
Server.MapPath("~/certificates/temp/test-1234.jpg"))
proc.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True
proc.Start()
I am able to run this code just fine on our development Win 2k3 server, but not on our production Win 2k3 Server. I get the error "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied". The main between the two servers is that the production is 64-bit and runs Plesk to manage multiple domains. I've tried adding rights asp.net user to the ImageMagick directory. The PS Admin says that in the case of Plesk, it's the same account that I use to access the site in VS using FPE. Does anyone know what I might do in order to allow this process to run on my production server?

When I run System.Diagnostics.Process.Start from my console application it works but the same code when I run from my web service hosted in IIS doesn't work.
Is it some thing to do with ASP.Net privileges?? if yes how can I configure it from my C# code.

I have a project that it had been developed under MVC1 and after aa few months ago I upgraded it in MVC2.
Everything was well, uppon the day I needed to format my computer.
And what can goes wrong with a format? I don't know
I have installed the MVC2, I build the project, no error displayed, but from the time I've uploaded the project in the production server
I am getting this error.
Method not found: 'System.Web.Mvc.MvcHtmlString System.Web.Mvc.Html.LinkExtensions.RouteLink(System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper, System.String, System.Object)'.
I can't understand what caused the problem.
Certainly I assumed that is have to do with MVC1 and I referenced it, but with no luck
again.
Theese are the methods that the problem is came from

I can not run System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(@"wmplayer.exe") in code behind under IIS, - nothing happens, though I can do it successfully using Visual Studio ASP.NET Development server. I read topic http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555134 and made as recommended: 1) Made ASP.NET worker process run in SYSTEM account 2) Enabled IIS Admin Service to interact with desktop and rebooted serivce. - wmplayer.exe does not start, even its process does not start. I tried start notepad.exe and it partly works - process starts, I see only window frame, but not menu and can not interact with it. The other thing I tried is to put it under out-of-process (IIS virtual folder properties) and gave the process administrative rights (changed identity in Component Services): no result.

OK Here is the situation:
I have a web app with a table of statistics on our salesmen's customers, and each row has a sparkline graph showing the general trend of the sales data for the last 12 months. Each page shows a particular salesman's customer list, and some of them can have an enormous number of customers = an enormous number of rows = an enormous number of sparklines (e.g. one in particular has 125 and takes 15 seconds to load).
For this reason, jQuery sparklines could not be used - they completely pinned the CPU of a user accessing a page with a lot of sparklines with IE.
So I moved on to using the Google Chart API, which worked much better, except for two issues: 1) it's on a secure site, and the Google Chart API URL is only served over HTTP (solved by using a small wrapper script to download the graph dynamically and re-serve it from our secure server); and 2) on a page with 125 sparklines, it was still very slow due to the number of requests (even when the 0-9 server prefixes are used to maximize the # of available connections).
So my next step beyond this was to try to make each of the "download/grab/re-serve image" method calls asynchronous - and it worked!
...but only on my dev box running in debug mode.
When I pushed it up to the live site, it was faster, but it left some of the images unloaded, which is of course unacceptable.
So here is what I was hoping some SO hotshot would know:
1) Why are my asynchronous method calls working while debugging, but not working on the live site?
2) Is there any easier way to get a large number of sparklines of some sort to load quickly on a secure server without making me want to tear my hair out?
2a.) Does anyone have any experience using the ASP.NET Chart Library? Is this something I should investigate?
2b.) A co-worker suggested I make my own sparkline routine using a 1x1 CSS background image and varying the height. The problems are a) it is completely un-extensible in case we want to make changes; b) it seems hacky as hell (leaves about a bajillion DIVs per sparkline in the markup); and c) I have no idea if it will be fast enough when there are 100-200 of them on one page - what are your thoughts on the feasibility of the 1x1 sprite approach?

I'd like to be able to determine what class will be called given an URL. For instance, I have a page /First.aspx that has a hyperlink to /Second.aspx In the code behind for First.aspx.cs, I'd like to be able to determine what class will execute if someone clicks on the hyperlink that points to /Second.aspx.
EDIT: One of the reponders asked me to outline the problem I'm trying to address. Here it is: The codebase I inherited has a subclass the System.Web.UI.Page that has a public Authorized method that returns a boolean. The Authorized method checks the parameters passed via the query string against the authenticated user, and determines whether that user should be allowed to call that page with the given parameters.
Elsewhere in the site I have hyperlinks that reference those protected pages. In some instances those links are displayed to users who are not authorized to navigate to that page. They can click the link, however they get an error. In other instances, prior developers when through the trouble of inserting logic that hides the hyperlink for those unauthorized users, but the authorization logic is duplicated (In the page itself, and in the linking page). What I would like to do is create a subclass of the hyperlink class, and have the subclass inspect the NavigateUrl, determine the destination page class, and call the Authorized method of that class to determine if the user is authorized to call that page. If the user is not authorize, the link will automatically hide itself.

I've written a aspx.net(C#) page that after the user has done what they do on the page they hit a Submit button. The Submit button
1) takes the work the users was producing on the page and writes it to a file.
2) attempts to execute a batch file.
The call to the batch file is executed via:
protected void Execute123EDI()
{
try
{
string File = @"c:80sAdminSendV80s.bat";
lblCancelled.Text = lblCancelled.Text + File;
Process proc = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
proc.StartInfo.LoadUserProfile = false;
proc.StartInfo.UserName = "administrator";
proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
System.Security.SecureString secPass = new System.Security.SecureString();
string paswd = "123abc";
for (int i = 0; i < paswd.Length; i++)
{
secPass.AppendChar(paswd[i]);
}
proc.StartInfo.Password = secPass;
proc.StartInfo.FileName = File;
proc.Start();
FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"c:80sAdminSendV80sOutput.log", FileMode.Append);
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(fs);
sw.Write(proc.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd());
proc.WaitForExit();
sw.Close();
proc.Close();
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
lblDebug.Text = lblDebug.Text + ex.Message + "<br/>";
}
If I watch the processes tab in Task Manager on the web server I see "cmd.exe" under the context of 'administrator' but it just hangs. For test purposes c:SendV80s.bat: copy c: oot.ini c:zzz.txt
If I logon onto the webserver's console and execute SendV80s.bat it works and exits without issue. But when I execute the same batch file via the Submit button it gets stuck executing in Task Manager/Process. I believe this has something to do with the fact that cmd is not running in a full environment/desktop context. I just noticed this on the actual console of the webserver (not in my RDP console but console 0 instead)
A pop-up box stating: CMD.exe Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application. And when I click on the OK button my ASPX page's WaitForExit is satisfied and the continues processing normally.

What is the right approach when users (authenticated domain admins) should be able to start batch jobs (usually exe files) from an IIS (7.x) aspx (c#) page? This is an intranet site. The batch jobs have to run on the web server as Domain Admins. The website pool is executed by network service or some similar restricted account in AD.
Approaches I can think of (and their disadvantages):
1. Start exe file with System.Diagnostics.Process.Start with another account. This feature is disabled in IIS 7.x, how do I allow it?
2. Create a sheduled task and call scheduled task-api. This unmanaged dll is giving VS compiler warnings because it's unsafe to call from managed code.
3. I suppose there's a better approach, because the previous suggestions doesn't appear safe or robust.

[code].....
There are plenty other similar static methods defined within the class.
When does it fail: ONLY when the solution is compiled in 'DEBUG' mode. Everything works fine in 'RELEASE' mode.
What have I already tried:
1. Including a static constructor inside 'Utility' class - FAILED
2. Marking 'Utility' class with 'static' keyword: FAILED
3. Changing platform target from 'Any CPU' to 'x64': FAILED
As highlighted above, the issue is really not with VerifyPassword() method per se. Rather it is with the instantiation of 'Utility' type. That's why an exception is thrown from the constructor. Since 'VerifyPassword' is it is the first static method called, it appears in the stack. Just for the sake of proving that, I removed the call to VerifyPassword and returned 'true' instead. That way I was able to login to the application (no password verification), but failed at a later stage where I had called the Utility class on another method, namely Utility.ValidateSKUAdjustment(txtCurentMonthM1.Text).

First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production.The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong)
1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong?
2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues?
3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application?
what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system
