I am trying to configure one http module(a vb module) on MOSS site. In this module I have entry like below:
Dim roles As String() = Nothing
Dim webIdentity As New GenericIdentity(OracleUser, "Form")
Dim principal As New GenericPrincipal(webIdentity, roles)
HttpContext.Current.User = principal
System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString, False)
Due to this I am getting 500 internal server and exception on browser is: Exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' was thrown.
Parameter name: encodedValue
If I comment "HttpContext.Current.User" related two lines then it redirect to form login.

I created an AutocompleteExtender web service. I am getting a Object reference not set error in the peice of the code where I am referring to System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session. Does anyone know why this is. And I am checking to see if it is != null before I reference it. But it crashes. Is there another way to pass another parameter to the web service?

In a page (not default) I have:
Protected
Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender
As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.EventArgs)
Handles
Me.Load
Try
loginRep = BusinessLogic.SR.GetUserName("99999")
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items.Clear()
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items.Add("RepId",loginRep)
I don't any errors and when in the run in the immediate window:
? System.Web.HttpContext.Current.items("RepId") in the immediate window on THAT page I get the OBJECT.
Then I have a hyperlink with navigateurl to the next page "~/ActCnt.aspx"
On that page, ActCnt.aspx, when in the code I have:
Protected
Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender
As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.EventArgs)
Handles
Me.LoadIf
Not Page.IsPostBack
Then
Dim loginRep
As BusinessLogic.SalesRep = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items("RepId")
In the immediate window ? System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Items("RepId") returns a String that is equal to "RepId".
Even if I change it to not be an object, but a string I only get the Name "RepId" of the keypair. I have NEVER gotten the actual value.

i'm using an example in which i can fake the session.It's for use in a unittest of a mvc controller.In the test i create a controller and then i do this:
FakeHttpContext httpctx = new FakeHttpContext(null,null,null,null,mSessionItems );
ControllerContext ctx2 = new ControllerContext(httpctx,new RouteData(), target);
here mSessionItems is my session and target is my instance of a controller,and indeed, when i'm in a controller reading this.ControllerContext.HttpContext.Session, i have a session, great!but.... i also read the session outside the controller, and there i use HttpContext.Current.Session, and that is null (or actualy, the HttpContext.Current is null).

I am maintaining some Asp.net code and need some help figuring something out. Basically I have a C# statememt that reads as follows
String Em = System.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("EmailAddress")
So something tells me it is trying to read an email address. I looked in the web.config file and I don't see the string "EmailAdress" defined in the <appsettings> tags or anywhere else. Could I be looking in the wrong web.config file? Or where is system.ConfigurationManager.AppSettngs looking for the definition of the email address?

For example, in web.config you can use...
[code]....
...for getting rid of precondition="managedHandler". Where can I find the names and types of the other modules? I suspected that somewhere in the hierarchy there should be some XML describing the defaults. However, I cannot find it. Am I missing some machine.config, web.config file?

I wanted to understand the behavior of HttpContext.Current.Application during the load balancing. I have read that session can be stored in disk hence can be retrieved from different servers. Is this true for HttpContext.Current.Application also. Does the keydata stored in one machine is accessible in other different machine too?

I've found myself having a requirement to configure log4net based on a file relative to the physical location of the running ASP.NET web application. We like to start the logger as early as possible, so Application_Start seems a proper place. In IIS6, this works fine and has been running for ages, but now we moved to IIS7 and this won't work anymore:
string absolutePath = HttpContext.Current.Request.PhysicalApplicationPath;
because the HttpContext.Current is not available in many global.asax (Application, Session) events. This is old news, we all know it raises the now infamous Request is not available in this context error. We don't want to move back to Classic Mode.
Now, the question is simple: without using HttpContext, is it possible to find the physical location of the currently running web application instance?

i have stored settings in the AppSettings section of the web.config file.
I'm trying to access these settings via System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings, but the AppSettingsCollection is empty. So I can't access this settings.
The strange thing is that this is working on my development machine, but is failing on the production machine. Previous versions of the web application have also worked on the production machine. I'm not aware of any modifications that could couse this.
I have also tried using ConfigurationManager and WebConfigurationManager without success.

currently, I am working on the project where I have to configure Application on IIS7 with network drive and doing this I am getting the error regarding security. Let me explain in detail. We have two production server, both having Windows 2008. now one server acting as the storage server and other server will work as web server which having the IIS (here IIS7). Now, I have to deploy the application on the storage server and in web server I have to configure the application in IIS with the path of network drive (here network drive means path of the folder at storage server). At here I had provide the full path like \ servernamedrivename$foldername, and also provide the credential at "connect at" button.Now when I open the page it will display the page but with the following error.
Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. Now new question that Credential is proper or not? Here my both production server having the user : username1 and password: Password1 but the domain is different. So, what I do that enter only the username1 in user name and password1 in password box.

I need my system IP address. I've used Request.ServerVariables["remote_addr"] but it is being provided IP address of my network(intranet) not my local system ip.
Actually I've set session state off and want to identify the user request. So i want to fetch the system IP not router/network IP.

There seems to be an issue with the "Trust" level when executing within a "Cloud" environment. In order for the following app to work it needs a trust level of at least "Medium." This web app is developed using VB.NET 3.5, and Visual Studio 2008. The app works perfectly on my local sever but when deployed/published to the "Cloud" it returns the error: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I have added all 4 required values, ConsumerKey, ConsumerSecret, OAuthToken, and OAuthTokenSecret to the web.config file in the "appSettings" section of the "configuration"
[Code]....
If found that by going to [URL] and signing into the account that is using the application, then go to the "Settings" page, go to the bottom of the page and click on the "API" menu option. Once the API page appears you will clik on the button "2", Register An App. On the right side on the new page, you will see a button "View Your Applications." If you have previously registered your app, click this button, If not fill out the appliction for a new app. Now at the View your Applications page, select the app you want to get the authorization keys for where is says "Edit Details". Now click on the button to the right that says, "Application Detail." Here you will find your Consumer Key and your Consumer Secret Key. On the right side of this page you will see the menu option "My Access Token", click it and you will find your oauth_token and your oauth_token_secret keys! Not that you have all the keys, put them in the "appSettings" section of the web.config file. Add "Dim twConn As New TwitterVB2.TwitterAPI" at the top of the page.
I then created a subroutine where I pass in the Tweet:
[Code]....
This code works great in an enviornment that allows at least a "Medium" trust level. However it appears that many of the "new" hosting envrionments such as "Cloud Hosting" and others do not allow this trust level automatically!However if the trust level is less than "Medium" on your host you will likely receive the error message: "Twitter Returned: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed." If anyone has found a fix for this "Trust Level"
