Use The Log4net Provider Instead Of Standard IO For The Log Provider?
Sep 13, 2010
I need to log entries into a log file.This should be done in the data access layer.At present,I am using the standard IO for making the log entries.But I need to use the log4net provider instead of standard IO for the log provider.I have added the log4net as a reference to my project.

I have watched the how to video on Creating a Custom Membership provider. So far it works great. My login control interacts well with it etc. Now i've created a Custom Role Provider. I've created a class that inherits the RoleProvider base class and i've added code to each Sub. My question is, what is the best way to implement the role provider, considering I get the Roles etc from the database?

I am trying to build an application that
1. user can login by their AD account and password.
2. AD account can be assigned to different group.
I know there is a training video - [URL] to teach how to use the tool to provision the membership schema to SQL server for Forms authentication. but how can I use AD authentication with this?

I try to get the user profile settings with this code. But all items in it are empty, in the database they are not empty. So there is going something wrong. First of oll how can i add a provider to the ProfileCommon ? Maybe i'm there then... the usrInfo is filled well...
MembershipUser usrInfo = Membership.Providers["MyMembershipProvider"].GetUser(UserName,false);
ProfileCommon prf = (ProfileCommon)Profile.GetProfile(UserName);
LitNaam.Text = prf.Voorletters.ToString() + " " + prf.Achternaam.ToString();

<profile>
<providers>
<clear/>
<add name="AspNetSqlProfileProvider" type="System.Web.Profile.SqlProfileProvider" connectionStringName="ApplicationServices" applicationName="/"/>
</providers>
<properties>
<add name="FirstName"/>
<add name="LastName"/>
</properties>
</profile>
I have the code snippet above in my webconfig file. I am attempting to set the FirstName property in codebehind on a register.aspx page. Like this:
Profile.FirstName = ((TextBox)RegisterUser.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("FirstName")).Text;
VS says Profile is in System.Web.Profile Namespace. I then use it like this "System.Web.Profile.FirstName", but says first name does not exist in System.Web.Profile.FirstName namespace.
How do I set the property and later retrieve it?

I'd like to know if there are any good EF providers for Oracle out there, and more specifically what experiences people have had with them. We're looking for a provider that is either free or paid for, but I'm struggling a bit with finding any real opinions on what the different frameworks are like to work with in a production environment.
EDIT,I should clarify that we are using Oracle 11g.

One thing that has always deterred me about using ASP.NET is the cost for hosting was generally is a bit higher then the LAMP environment equivalent (and also a small little thing called WebForms). Now that I can getting back into C# programming, I think I am going to take another look at ASP.NET. ASP.NET MVC seems to have grown since I last look at it (version 1 was still in beta) and it seems like ASP.NET MVC might be the best of both worlds of ASP.NET and PHP. That being I can use C# as my language and template system (like I can with PHP) and not have to deal with the ultra super fantastically craptastical WebForms (can you tell I don't like them? ).
Now I need to find a good hosting provider and have a few requirements to be able to successfully replace my current LAMP hosting. I am going to want a hosting provider that allows me to have both PHP and ASP.NET running on the same IIS server so that I can host both type of projects from my web server (assume it is possible to run both PHP and ASP.NET on the same IIS server at the same time). I am also going to want to use MySQL instead of MSSQL. I am also going to want to be able to install subversion and/or git to host my own repositories. Figuring with all these requirements a shared provider won't cut it and I am probably going to need a virtual dedicated provider and if so I assume that would come with access for remote desktop into the server to allow to be manage it, right? I also want to make sure that it is easy to upgrade (or downgrade) the plan so that I can start off with the cheapest option and upgrade easily if my usage demands it.
Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable windows server hosting provider that meets these requirements?

I am building my first asp.net app from scratch. I have two different membership providers. One is a basic sql provider while the other is active directory. The user "role" is determined by how the user logs in. I want to use the Role Manager functionality of asp.net but I don't want to build the whole role provider part when I really don't have "roles" in my application, I have two membership types.
Is there a way to set the role of the user through the membership provider at login or in some way mark a logged in user as having been authenticated by sql or AD?
This is my first asp.net app, am I even thinking about this the right way?

Because my website is a CMS I am looking for a solution able to store hierarchy in DataBase or in some sort of Business Logic. I found out SQL Site Map Provider, which seems a workaround to store hierarchy in SQL. [URL]

I am using SQL Membership Provider to create user accounts for my web site and for some reason, the CreateDate and LastLoginDate fields are NOT saving the current time of my machine when I add a new user to the website. It is showing the previous day's date and the time is displayed as PM when it's AM and vise-versa in the CreateDate and LastLoginDate fields in aspnet_Membership table. I am developing and running the website via localhost on my laptop using IIS 7 (Windows 7). Does this have anything to do with my laptop's clock settings or is there something I need to configure in the web.config file or in IIS.

i am planing an application that needs to handle different client logins. A user should be able to login under each clients url.The project will have a start page and multiple (database generated) client URLs.www.domain.com/ClientA www.domain.com/ClientB www.domain.com/ClientC
I failed using MVC Routes to build up such a scenario with dynamically clients so i used an MVC area for the client space:www.domain.com/clients/ClientA www.domain.com/clients/ClientB www.domain.com/clients/ClientC Is there any client support for membership providers? All i found is made for a single client environment. I would love to take advantage of the mvc buildin attributes for authentication..

In a standard ASP.NET MVC template application that is created by default in Visual Studio when starting a new ASP.NET MVC application there is already a built-in membership / authentication / authorization system.
Using web search one can find lots of info about how to work with a built-in ASP.NET membership system, but very often this material is a bit of an old and refer to ASP.NET only, not mentioning ASP.NET MVC framework.
Just for example:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998347.aspx#paght000022%5Fmembershipapis
or http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/091207-1.aspx
To what extent all that applies to ASP.NET built-in membership system applies also to ASP.NET MVC ready template membership system?

Does the ASP.NET SQL Profile Provider use caching? I mean if I pull data from the profile for a user will it hit the DB for each request?
I'm looking for a setting or any information on this. I had thought I read it would use cookies but I can't find this now.
Edit: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa478953.aspx describes process as
When called by SqlProfileProvider.GetPropertyValues, aspnet_Profile_GetProperties performs the following actions:
Queries the aspnet_Applications table to convert the application name input to it into an application ID.
Queries the aspnet_Users table to convert the user name input to it into a user ID.
Queries the aspnet_Profile table for the PropertyNames, PropertyValuesString, and PropertyValuesBinary fields for the specified user.
Updates the user's last activity date in the aspnet_Users table with the current date and time.
