User Controls :: Decrypting Password On User Validation Or Authentication

Article : Encrypt and Decrypt Username or Password stored in database
The whole thing works very well but my issue is, after entering and encrypted password how does the user then log into the database?
When a user types in his password, the typed in password will not match the ecnrypted value in the database.
So how do I decrypt what is in the database and compare with what the user typed in and then validate the user.

I am working on an application that uses windows authentication. Within this application, we give the user the ability to change their password. The user can change the password just fine. However, after they change their password, that is when things get weird. Sometimes they can navigate through the application just fine. Other times, they click on a link and are immediately prompted to supply credentials. Occasionly they can click on a link but upon a second click they are prompted to supply credentials. Does the browser keep a token to the original credentials and use this when they request the next page? If this is the case, why can i continue using the site sometimes? Can I change the password and then assign that token to the request?

I am a beginner of asp.net..I currently have a login page with forgot password link button on the bottom of the screen. I am also using forms authentication to prevent an unauthorized user from accessing the other pages. The authentication seems to be working fine except for one thing. It prevents the user from accessing the password recovery page once the user click on the link button. How do I allow all users access to the login/password pages and also prevent them from viewing the other pages if they are not authenticated?The code below is to prevent from other anonymous view other pages without access. But i got no idea on how to allow them to access password recovery page...
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="/Presentation/Display/Login.aspx" name=".ASPNETAUTH" protection="All" path="/" timeout="120" cookieless="UseDeviceProfile" slidingExpiration="true"/>
</authentication>
<!-- This section denies access to all files in this application except for those that you have not explicitly specified by using another setting. -->
<authorization>
<deny users="?"/>
</authorization>

I have an Intranet web site that uses Windows Authentication and when a users password expires the do not get a prompt letting them reset it. We also have OWA and if they go there to check mail, it sends them to a page which allows them to reset it there. How can I trap for expired passwords and allow them to change it like they can with OWA?

i have a problem with the users authentication on my site. I made <authentication mode="Windows"> in my web.config. The LoginView shows "mycomputermyusername" if i request the page. So far as well. Now i want to login with a different username. Users are stored in an Active Directory. My questions: wich setting i have to do, that user's account and password checked by Active Directory? how can i force the system to make a new login? Logout doesn't work, i always see my on account.

I have a custom membership user class and custom MembershipProvider working against database. Due to security reasons the user passwords are stored in the database as hashed values. So my procedure
public override bool ValidateUser(string username, string password) is
{
//select hashed password from db
return (EncodePassword(password) == dbpassword)
}

I received some code, a small c# asp.net application which manually posts a shared username/pwd to a 3rd party website for auto-logins from our intranet site. During transit the password is encrypted, but not within the application. Within this application a namevaluecollection is used and the username and password are hard coded. Originally the thought was, who cares if its hard coded because its shared between everyone anyway. Now we want to encrypt the username and password from within the application. I'm not sure the best way to accomplish the goal of making sure the password is encrypted "at rest". Normally I've seen passwords stored and encrypted within a database. I know we'll obviously have to move the password out of the application and store it somewhere else, I'm just not sure where. Do we move the username and pwd to the web.config file? I really am not sure the best way to approach this.

My company has some unique password policies (such as a pwd cannot be re-used for 6 months, aside from the must include #, special character, upper & lower case)Can anyone suggest how to go about ensuring that a new user's password complies with these policies (using forms authentication in .net 3.5 framework)?

I want to use forms authentication on my ASP.NET MVC site. All I need is a place for users to login, a page to add a user, and a page to edit a user. I'm using all the default ASP.NET forms authentication tables for SQL Server (aspnet_Profile, aspnet_Roles, aspnet_Users, etc.). The only difference is that I've added an Employees table to my database, which contains a FK to aspnet_Users to create a one-to-one relationship. The Employees table contains columns for FirstName, LastName, StartDate, etc. It's a way for me to keep additional information for the users.
I'm having trouble finding any sort of tutorial that would help me build a basic page in MVC, everything I find is for WebForms. For my page to add a user, I'd like there to be fields for the Employees table. I don't know if I can modify the CreateUserWizard to add those fields, or if I'd be better off just creating my own custom page.
