I am tring to call external web service through generic handler ,post some example code for the call webservice from generic handler .
View 1 RepliesWe need to create a simple web service in ASP.NET that can be called from PHP or other languages. This in turn will be used to update records in a database for an item submission.
The core part is fairly simple, we have a base set of fields for the object - first name, last name, birth date, city, etc. In addition however we need to accept a list of items associated with that object that can range from 0-n.

What would be the best way to structure this so it can be easily passed to the ASP.NET web service and processed as a single call for the entire object? Would passing the list of items as a single delimted string be a wise approach? Ex: Jan 1 2009, ABC|May 1 2010, 123|Jun 30 2010, XXXXX
I have a custom class declared as follows (in vb.net)
<Serializable()> _ Public
Class NumInfo Public n As String
Public f As Integer Public fc As
char() Public t As Integer
[Code]....
What am I doing wrong? For the record I tried replacing char() with string to see if it was the array causing problems but that didn't help either. I'm fairly new to web services. I tried replacing the custom object parameter with a primitive parameter just to check how things worked and it rendered a page with an input field and invoke button.
I have the following scenario. An user uses the desktop application to call our WCF Service which has windows authentication. The WCF Service calls the Office Communication Server (OCS) in order to do some custom work.
When the WCF Service calls OCS we have to pass an instance of NetWorkCredential into the call. I want to pass in the original calling users NetworkCredential object into the OCS call rather than constructing it using a custom username and password. How do I get access to the calling users NetworkCredential object from the WCF service and pass it to the OCS call?
I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:
public String SfTest()
{
return "SF Test";
}
No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:
public List<String> GetTest()
{
List<String> list = new List<string>();
String a = "a";
list.Add(a);
String b = "b";
list.Add(b);
return list;
}
I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.
What is the best way to implement a open/cross platform web service API to an existing .NET App? Not being a strictly .NET friendly API. It already has ASP.NET exposed web services, but need to be built into an generic API allowing inserts, updates and deletes and returning results based on user criteria in standard SOAP, JSON or other common formats, similar to Google's Data API's. Are there any frameworks designed for this or is it a build it from scratch project implementing each format/protocol manually?
View 3 RepliesHow to call Synchronous service call for combo boxes? As I know Synchronous calls do not create a good user experience because the application is hung waiting for the Web service call to return. Then it is my requirement.
View 1 RepliesI am new to MongoDB and have a perfect place in mind to use it. However, it's only worth it if I can make the queries from JavaScript and return JSON.
What's the easiest way I can implement a generic service/handler in asp.net/c# that would allow me to interact with mongodb via JavaScript? I understand JavaScript can't call mongodb directly, so the next best thing is what I'm looking for.
I have a class Trans, with properties siteID and TID. I have a generic list of this class, TransList = list(Of Trans).
Now I want to find the Trans in TransList where the siteID is 3 and the TID is T1. There will only be one record. I want to then update this Trans in the TransList (so I need a reference to the Trans). I am trying to do the following, but it doesnt like it.
[Code]....
I am trying hard to update a business object inside a List<>.
I am using a checkbox list
When a checkbox list item is clicked I check if it exists, if yes I mark it as Dirty (means the user unchecks an item)If not, I add a new item to the list (means the user clicks a new item)and store it in view state
How do I update the Generic List with the Dirty Object ?
On form update, do I foreach and make separate lists of dirty and new objects to send to DB layer or would you recommend any other way ?
Here is my code.
protected void cblExclusions_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (cblExclusions.SelectedIndex != -1)
{
ftExclusions myExclusion=new ftExclusions(); // Business object

whether its possible to call an web service on a private corporate network from a web service located in a dmz?
View 2 Repliesi have created a normal web service and i want to host it outside IIS. one idea i got is to use window service as hosting environment. i have created a web service and hosted it window service and its window service is running now.would anybody please let me know that how can i call web service hosted in window service binded over soap.tcp. here is my sample code.

sort List-generic object by two parameters

View 1 RepliesI've scenario where I want to insert data into database without post back. there are around 12 to 13 fields which i need to insert. I'm passing DTO from the client side which is actually Json object. Now the problem which i'm facing is how to convert that Json object which i got in webservice to the "class" (in my case class name is User) object.
[Code]....
In the above case AddNewUser method takes the object of User class. But i'm getting casting error. So how do I convert Json object to the "User" class object?
I could really use some help on this one. I've been fighting it now for several days and we are supposed to start testing early next week.I am subscribing to 4 web services all hosted by the same company. The integration with 1, 2 and 3 all went fine, but on the fourth I keep getting the very unhelpful error:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException = {"Server was unable to process request. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object."}
[code]...
I have the following code:
[WebMethod]
[SoapHeader("_webServiceAuth")]
public User GetUser(string username){
try
{
this._validationMethods.Validate(_webServiceAuth);
User user = new User(username);
[code]...
Okay, so I have a Generic IList of custom objects that I want to use as a datasource for a repeater.
[Code]....
In the WebForm inside the repeater, I place this code:
[Code]....
when I try to run it, I get the error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[MyCustomObject]' to type'MyCustomObject'. ". Which makes sense, really.
What's the best way round this? Is there any way I can get the direct cast working? I'm loath to have to create a custom list item that implements IBinding or something and bind that directly, as that'll mean a lot of legacy changes which may create further bugs. Or is there a better way?
i'm having a gridview with textboxes and i'm allowing user to enter all the textboxes and when submit button is clicked, I'm constructing the Object and adding all the rows to LIST class.,After that i'm putting that LIST elements in a session. Everything is fine, But when i try to cast the session object to LIST type and pass it to XML serialization, I cannot see the elements in the list and it is showing LIST as NULL. I can see the generated XML string with ROOT and my classname as attributes without no data.
Here is the below code:
[Code]....
I need to cache System.Collection.Generic.List object with expiration time
var Root = from feed in feedhotel.Descendants(ota + "HotelContent")
where (feed.Attribute("HotelCode") != null)
select new xmlhotel()
{
};
return Root.ToList();
Is it possible to cache Root.ToList() for some time....
I am working on a project where I have a form to create a new user. In that form we have a dropdown list that is populated from another table called ElectricCompanies. The Users table and ElectricCompanies tables are related (each User can only have one electric company, but electric companies can have multiple users). I am having trouble getting the Electric Company object to pass into the Users table. The Users table wants it to be passed as a object of the table ElectricCompanies, but right now it only passes the ID.
This is the code from the UserController under the Edit that I used to populate the ElectricCompany dropdown list:
Dim eleccomp = (From p
In _DB.ElectricCompanySet Select p)
ViewData("ElecComp") = New SelectList(eleccomp,
"ID", "Name")
Is there a way to pass an entire object rather than just the ID?
My problem is to save or pass a table object and use it in other page/controller.
I want to pass the object through pages to save just in the last STEP.
My controller:
[Code]....
I need to save the "d" object to use(save to database) just in other page/controller.
I have a search page which generates a GridView of results based on the search terms entered by the user. One of the columns in GridView is called a DOI (Document Object Itentifier). This DOI is used to find academic papers through [URL] when a user enters a DOI string. What I would like to do is redirect the user to the relevant webpage when they have selected the DOI in the GridView, however, the url for this page is always different. In the page, I have formatted the form tag like so: [URL] and in my GridView, I have formatted the row that I wish to have hyperlinked like so:
<asp:ButtonField DataTextField="DOI" HeaderText="DOI" CommandName="d"/>
Then, in my C# codebehind, I have the following event which aims to redirect the user to the required page, based on the tag they have selected:
switch (e.CommandName)
{
case "d":
searchResult.Attributes.Add("onchange", "window.open [URL]
break;
}
I don't think this code above makes any difference though as the form tag is already specifying the redirected url, nor do I think this task can be done with a html <table> object, as it only accepts static data, rather than a result set generated from a database, which is what I'm doing. I have also looked at the following post as a guide to this type of problem but, taking account of what it said didn't allow me to solve this problem completely. GridView with DDL and selected value
I have a simple Web Service method defined as:
[WebMethod]
[ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)]
public string MyWebMethod(string foo, string bar)
{
// DataContractJsonSerializer to deserialize foo and bar to
// their respective FooClass and BarClass objects.
return "{"Message":"Everything is a-ok!"}";
}
I'll call it from the client via:
var myParams = { "foo":{"name":"Bob Smith", "age":50},"bar":{"color":"blue","size":"large","quantity":2} };
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'https://mydomain.com/WebServices/TestSvc.asmx/MyWebMethod',
data: JSON.stringify(myParams),
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
dataType: 'json',
success: function (response, status) {
alert('Yay!');
},
error: function (xhr, err) {
alert('Boo-urns!');
}
});
However, this yields the following error (a breakpoint on the first line in MyWebMethod() is never hit):
{"Message":"No parameterless
constructor defined for type of
u0027System.Stringu0027.","StackTrace":"

I'd like to pass in two string parameters and use DataContractJsonSerializer to write new Foo and Bar objects. Am I missing something?
