sing VS 2008 at a workstation, I have successfully developed a local, file-system ASP.NET 3.5 website. The wbesite included a membership page with Windows authentication and a web parts page. The SQL Server 2005 ASPNETDB database has been created at an IIS web servr. Using the ASP.Net development server of the workstation, both the membership Membership/WebParts pages at the local website worked very well.
Then, I copied the website to a virtual directory at the IIS web server and creates a remote website for the workstation. Under theASP.NET development server of the workstation, both membership and webparts pages of the remote website at the IIS web server also worked fine.
However, when running these web pages from the IIS web server machine, something wrong happened with the web parts page. (The membership page still worked very well.) For the ASPNETDB database at the IIS web server machine, there is an EXECUTE permission error on an ASPNET stored procedure.
What are the differences between the ASP.NET development server and IIS web sever, which caused the EXECUTE permission error on the ASP.NET S.P.? How to find and fix the errors?

As that title says my aspx page shows a compile error on the @Page directive that says "ASP.NET runtime error: Cannot load file or Assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.BatchParser' or one of it's dependencies". The project compiles with our error and it runs with no problem. The only real problem that this causes it that the intellisense for anything other than simple HTML is broken so I can't type asp:Controlname and have intellisense show me a the list of items or properties in a control. I get a green squiggly line under all the asp tags saying "Unrecognized tag prefix or device filter 'asp'". This project doesn't directly use SQL SMO but it does reference a project that does. However, I removed that reference and the problem still doesn't go away. I have installed on my development machine the full SQL client and for both SQL 2005 and 2008 (including the SDK) from the Developer editions of both versions. This was not a problem on VS2005 and the project compiles without error in VS2010 too.

I have a new development machine running windows 7 professional 64 bit. On loading up a website project Im getting this error
'The Web Application Project 'websitename' is configured to use IIS. To access local IIS websites, you must install IIS components:
IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibilty
ASP.net
Windows Authentication
In addition you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account
As far as Im aware, I am an administrator of my own pc and I have the .net framework installed.

This could be a simple one but it has got me baffled. I have a ASP.NET solution that I have stored in C/inetpub/www/root/website. The solution and project files are all stored in there and I have set it up as a virtual directory in IIS.so I can view the web page in 2 ways.
1. - By running the solution [URL]
2. - By viewing the url in IE: [URL]
I changed the project to use windows authentication and I added alabel in the top right of the page which displays the user logged in i.e. DOMAINusername.
When I run the solution from VS2008 it displays the username on the page no problem (that is my logon id since I am running it). But when I view the page by typing the URL into IE - it doesnt seem to recognise the authentication and it doesnt display my DOMAINusername in the label.
Any ideas why this is? I thought maybe it was something to do with the .dlls but I did a simple test. In the project I created a new a label on the page and in the page_load I wrote "label.text = "Test Text". In both cases the label showed "Test Text" as expected so it is nothing to do with building the solution. Is there something about windows authentication - why would it work in one case and not in the other? So as a third test I actually opened IIS and right-clicked on the my website in the console and choose "browse".
I then got the following error:
Sequence contains no elements
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Sequence contains no elements
Source Error:
[Code]....
Now I set a break point at this point in my project in VS2008 - but when I run it there it doesnt even go to this code!

I have had a project called Articles and the project complies fine. I have it running as a seperate site on my machine and it works like a charm under IIS7. When I start the project from VS2010 in debug mode (by pressing F5) it lands on a page that says: "Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Articles._Default'."
I i however change the path in the browser from [URL] Home it works fine again, indicating that my routing table is bust but it was working yesterday and I did not change any route, The error page also says: "Please do not delete this file. It is used to ensure that ASP.NET MVC is activated by IIS when a user makes a "/" request to the server." That idicates to me that it went to default.aspx...right?

I use Mac as my primary OS, but I often work on ASP.NET MVC projects. I want to use the same file system for them, and not virtual OS image.
The reason for that is because I want to integrate the projects with Mac OS (i.e. upload them to the server via Transmit, a Mac OS FTP app).
But the problem here is that ASP.NET can't really work with projects located on network drives. So when I try to run a site (either with VS 2010's built in web server or with IIS 7), I get
Error Summary HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.
And this is a common mistake but no solution that I could find worked for me.
If I create a project on Parallel's virtual C: drive, everything works fine.
P.S. I hear that VMWare has better network drives support, but is it as smooth as Parallels? Parallels 6 runs extremely fast for me, and my Mac Mini doesn't even get warm with VS 2010 and several other Mac apps open.
P.P.S. I also heard about using DropBox and/or Windows Live Mesh. Is clouding a good idea in this case?

I'm attempting to run/debug an ASP.NET MVC project under .NET 4.0 using VS2010's Dev Web Server. The server appears to spawn successfully and an instance of IE Explorer opens. However, the browser never seems to find the page. The browser just "spins" showing only a white page...no error message.VS is configured to randomly select a port, although I get the same results when configuring numerous static ports. The ASP.NET project is the start-up project.

When I build me C# web app in VS 2008 I am presented with a white screen. Internet exporer shows that it is 'Done'. This happens no matter which Form of my project I run and will not display even the directory screen.
I recently copied and pasted controls from one form to another and after this it seems to have stopped working. I have tried deleting the newly created controls and then eventually the Form.

I installed VS2010. Then The Azure toolkit. I created a new solution, with one webrole in it. I added 'HelloAzure' to the default.aspx, and then pressed f5 to run it.
It runs! I see my text 'HelloAzure' in IE8. Yeah!
Now, when I close IE8, it seems that VS2010 simply hangs, is frozen. It accepts no input from mouse/keyb. Nothing moves ... you know ... it hangs.
Taskmanager is required to get out if this state.

I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?

I have a Visual Studio solution created in 2005 and I want to start working with it in 2008. I opened it and it was run through the wizard. My first error is a message that says: The Web Applicatin Project is configured to use IIS. You must install the following IIS components: IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility. So, I googled that and found this:IIS 7.0 is included with Windows Vista. However, when you first install Windows Vista, by default IIS 7.0 is not enabled. This topic describes how to enable IIS and configure it so that in Visual Studio you can create local IIS ASP.NET Web sites. This enables you to use a local copy of IIS to run and debug the Web site instead of using the ASP.NET Development Server. The bold is mine, because I want to know why I can't just use the ASP.NET Development Server? I always have in the past. Oh, and I'm not running Vista, I'm running Windows 7, but I don't think that matters.

The problem is I have a laptop that I take to University with me to all my lessons and lectures and it has Visual Studio 2008 installed on it and I work on my assignments in Visual Studio just fine. However when I get home I would like to use my desktop PC which has the exact same copy even from the very same disk of Visual Studio 2008 that is installed on my laptop. The problem is no matter what I do I can't open and work with any projects that I have created on my laptop.
Now if I create the project on my desktop PC it will open just fine on my laptop and I can continue to work with the project but the minute I save and take that project over to my desktop I get the self same error message shown below. [URL] I did do a little research and I found what looked like a solution for some people and that was to change the "SQL Server Instance Name" to SQL2008. As shown below it was set to SQLEXPRESS which is the same as what it says on my laptop copy. [URL] But all this did was present me with a new message as shown below. [URL] Uploaded with [URL] I'm completely at a loss as to what the issue is. Both my laptop and desktop run a fully updated copy of Windows 7 64Bit and have the same copy from the same CD of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.

I just completed converting my vs 2005 web app to Vs 2008. Question:After I make changes to the app and before I move the changes out to our web server, what must I consider for the web server?1) During conversion I allowed the project to convert from 2.0 framework to 3.5. On the web server, I assume it needs to be upgraded to 3.5 as well. Can I upgrade directly from a site or would you recommend I install VS 2008 on the web server as well (which comes with 3.5)? 2) Do I need to change the application name or virtual name on the web server or can I keep it the same?

I'm creating a website in Visual Studio 2010. I would like to use Visual Studio for C# debugging, but it also uses Visual Studio as JavaScript debugger. Is there a way to disable script debugging for Asp.Net website projects? I run my projects by hitting F5 in my Visual Studio. (I've noticed that when I attach the debugger manually, I can specify the type of stuff I would like to debug.) Note: I would like to debug, but not with Visual Studio. The developer toolbar is enough.

probably I should have posted this in the novice section, lol. Anyway, I'm using VSS 2005 on VS 2008. I started using the tool when the project was at a good point already, so I had to load it in VSS db. The problem is that, when I check out to make a local copy, it doesn't load the files from the Images folder and I wonder if it saves the files I put in the working copy folder. So i thought of manually copying them from/to the Master copy. Problem is that I can't find it. It's not in the VSS Database folder, or at least it's not present in a form I could recognize. So, where it is?
This problem started bothering me when I tried to assign an icon to a link. If I put the url to my working copy Images folder, it can't see any file. So I guessed it must be looking into the Master version of the folder, right? Anyway, I'm not so sure about that, cause when I assigned a background image in the StyleSheet, saving it in the working copy Images, it worked. So, as I'm already speaking of it, can anybody tell me if there's anything wrong with this icon assignement? Ty!

According to this website, I can go to Visual Studio 2005 Web Deployment Projects, and download the add-in, but I am not finding what I need. I have searched other sites for the add-in as well, but with no luck. where I can download the add-in?
If not, can someone provide documentation on how to properly deploy an ASP Web application? I have tried on my own, but I am apparently doing something incorrectly or incompletely, as I have several different problems with my current deployment. So I am looking to start over with the help of this add-in or by following more detailed documentation.

I am using visual studio 2005 (and team explorer 2005) with tfs 2008. I have installed both Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and VS80sp1-KB932544-X86-ENU.exe.
I perform the following steps:
Select Project->ASP.NET Configuration within Visual Studio 2005. Within Visual Studio 2005, attempt to perform either a check-in or a checkout.
The following happens:
The local server started by Visual Studio starts closing itself. I suspect it is crashing; the systray icons are not properly disposed of. It then reopens itself. It does this over and over again, maybe once every second or two. The TFS progress meter doesn't even budge, it just sits there. Canceling out of the checkout does not work; it says it is cancelling and does nothing.
