View 1 RepliesI have a textbox that I need to enter a path directory into, for storage in my database. For example, I need to enter "D:DocumentsFilesPhotos"
Is there a way to browse the server directory in a similar fashion to the FileUpload control? I do not need to upload a file, I just need exactly the same functionality as the textbox part of the FileUpload control! (i.e. When you click in the textbox, a browser opens, you select the folder, the path is filled into the textbox for you) P.S. I searched a few existing posts already on this, but several were dead ends, hence another post!
I am working on the migration of the server. Our new server is Windows server 2008 with IIS7.0 I have a great difficulty in browsing the pages hosted in virtual directories. I have followed the proper steps of creating a virtual directories and converting them into applications. But when i try to browsing the pages of the virtual directory, i get the 404 error. Note: The .Net Framework 4.0 is installed on the server and the web applications which i am trying to configure in the virtual directories are developed in Visual Studio 3.0. Even the http://localhost also don't work.
View 9 RepliesIve downloaded the asp.net framework from the "getting started" section twice today. Once on my PC which has windows 7 and once on my laptop which has vista. Both ended up with the same problem.
Once it is all downloaded I go to the "sql server installation centre" in my programs list and then select the "new installation" link at the top, I am asked to "Browse for SQL server installation media." I have tried to browse for this but cannot find it anywhere. its an error with windows 7 and to try and download visual studio which has all the componants needed for SQL Server to run. I tried this and hit the same wall. I have spent all day tring to find a solution for this but to no avail. I find it very confusing when reading up on exactly what I need to download. I am a PHP developer and have never done anything with ASP before. I just want a quick and simple solution to be able to get my website & database up and running. I have a .bak file that I need to import into the database which I would have thought would be very straight forward?!?
I have a WebSite and I woud like Deny Directory Browser from a web.config file. Here the code I'm using placed in the ROOT. Does not work. I'm testing it Locally so with URL LIKE http://localhost:3214/ I can still browser the directory fro CMS. What I'm doing wrong? Should it work even on Local Machine?

I want 2 things:
1- I don't want any people to delete "...../FormView.aspx" and go to this[URL] and browse the directory pages and folders names.
2- If anybody tired that, the application should redirect him to login page or home page.

In our website, we need to allow the user to browse a folder in the server. the idea is to let user specify a location IN THE SERVER to save a file. Is there a control to do this,how to do it. Specially, how to get the folder hierarchy on the server.

View 1 RepliesWould something be missing, not working, or confusing if I do this? First, install SQL Server 2008 Standard, and SP1. Then, install Visual Studio 2010 Professional, unchecking SQL Server 2008 Express option. Or would I need to fix any configurations afterwards?

View 9 Repliesour project using active directory on vb.net 1.1 and server 2003. We will be upgrade to vb.net 3.5 and server 2008.
In this case, 1. We convert all vb.net 1.1 application to vb.net 3.5 and run on server 2003.
Then later on, 2. Our server will upgrade to server 2003 to server 2008.
I would linke to know after doing above two phase will effect on Active Directory code setting in our program.
Can I conver to 1 to 1 withut changing anything in vb.net and server?
I've been asked to program a web app for a client's intranet. They want the web app to users in using their Windows credentials. So far in my online research, I've been finding that Active Directories is what I need to access, and that the System.DirectoryServices library provides the tools for doing so. Unfortunately, it seems that one can't get the password from the AD through this route (or through any route). But a coworker of mine tells me there is a way to get AD to pass on the user's Windows credentials (which includes username and password) directly to the web app (so that no one but the web app itself can see it), and that the web app can use those credentials to automatically log the user in.
View 4 RepliesI have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!
I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.
I am looking at developing using Visual Studio 2010/2008 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7. Should I be able to do this on Windows 7 Professional, or do you need Windows 7 Ultimate?

View 2 RepliesI have an ASP.Net project created by a team member on another computer. The project references a virtual directory that exists on my computer but under a different localhost location.Currently, the following error occurs when I try to open the project:
The local IIS URL http://localhost/foo/default.aspx specified for Web project foobar has not been configured. In order to open this project the virtual directory needs to be configured. Would you like to create the virtual directory now?[Yes] [No]
So, there are two options: select yes: It creates the virtual directory that it thinks I need, which I don't want to do. I already have a virtual directory somewhere else.
select no: This isn't an option, as the project opens, but without all the bells and whistles I know and love.
Where is the virtual directory location (in my case http://localhost/foo/default.aspx) specified within the project? Can I change this manually, say in a configuration file within the project, either before or after I open it? A configuration change seems more ideal than manually opening IIS to override a virtual directory path.
EDIT (solution): Buried in the comments below is the following answer (Thanks @Thyamine)This can be configured in the foo.csproj file for the project. Look for the lines:
<ProjectExtensions>
<VisualStudio>
<FlavorProperties GUID="{F00-000-000}"> [code]....
