I have a WebSite and I woud like Deny Directory Browser from a web.config file. Here the code I'm using placed in the ROOT. Does not work. I'm testing it Locally so with URL LIKE http://localhost:3214/ I can still browser the directory fro CMS. What I'm doing wrong? Should it work even on Local Machine?

Is there a way to browse the server directory in a similar fashion to the FileUpload control? I do not need to upload a file, I just need exactly the same functionality as the textbox part of the FileUpload control! (i.e. When you click in the textbox, a browser opens, you select the folder, the path is filled into the textbox for you) P.S. I searched a few existing posts already on this, but several were dead ends, hence another post!

I want 2 things:
1- I don't want any people to delete "...../FormView.aspx" and go to this[URL] and browse the directory pages and folders names.
2- If anybody tired that, the application should redirect him to login page or home page.
In the root directory my web.config is doing the job of loggin in people to a website.
I don't need this behaviour in a directortory of the root directory. How do I solve this problem?

I have created a TraceExtension class that inherits from SOAPExtension. I then apply the extension to the WebMethod using [TraceExtension] above the signature. This all works well and outputs to a file specified in the TraceExtension class.
I would like to really enable / disable this in the web.config, does anyone know how this can be done, or if it can be done??
I am using a Network Solutions (NS) shared hosting account. When adding two domain names to my NS account I originally had my entire hosting folder "/htdoc/" assigned to my first domain. I was instructed by customer service to create a new sub folder for each domain and assign the domain names to each one using my NS account manager. Each website is its own application with vastly different settings At this point my directory looked like this:
/htdocs/website1/
/htdocs/website2/
/htdocs/website3/
I then got this error:
It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS
Naturally I called NS assuming that all they need to do was change a setting so that each sub folder would serve as the main directory for each site. Instead I was told that I need to configure /htdocs/ as its own application with a special web.config file configured to handle this in some way. Of course my next question was how do I configure the web.config to solve this problem and instead of answering the question they said that the question was outside the scope of their customer support.
What I need is simple. Code to add to a web.config with default settings in the /htdocs/ directory that specifies the sub directories as the parent directories for those websites and that no setting in any specifec site should have an effect on any others.
I have a virtual directory setup in one of my web apps that needs to not inherit the web.config of the main app so it can run on it's own. I am wondering how I can do this because right now when I hit it (mainwebapp.domain.com/virdir) it throws an error saying it can't find some dependencies that are listed in the main apps web.config (shows main app web.config in the error message), this virdir contains it's own little app that needs to just run standalone.
Here is the problem area:

error is on line 145: "Could not load type 'Weborb.ORBHttpHandler'." (this is the parent web.config that it is showing the error in, which I do not want to modify)...
If I add <clear/> to the top of that same block in the child web.config then I get:
"No http handler was found for request type 'GET'"

I'm curious if there is a syntax that I can use that will allow me to define more than one directory within one location element. For example, it would be convenient if we could do something like this...

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:
FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)
I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?

I am using System.directory services namespace in framework 2 to query active directory. I have used fixed user account impersonisation in the web.config file, find the code:

I have disabled anonymous access in IIS. Also i have given Read & write access to the account tang09 for the website virtual directory and Microsoft.NET folder located in windows folder. But still i get prompted for the domain username and password to access the website.
I have a WCF service in a virtual directory that is called in the code behind of a page that is in the parent directory, when i debug the code i can see the wcf service is being called, however when the service calls Membership.GetUser() it alway returns null. The user has already logged in to the asp.net site. When i call the service via jquery it does pick up the correct user, but i need to be able to call it via the code behind as well. I am developing in .Net 3.5 how i can make the Wcf pick up the logged in user?

Now I want to be able to authenticate all the users of different organisation units. e.g. ou=development,ou=accounting etc., So I specified like this, entry.Username = "uid=thost,ou=people,ou=devlopment,ou=accounting, dc=domain,dc=com"; but it says "There is no such object on the server". I also tried putting ou in URL. I am not sure where should I specify this OUs to make my search broad. I found a lot on internet but no success so far.
I made a web form on a development website of mine (we'll call it dev.somewhere.com) and tried to publish it out to the web (we'll call it [URL]) in a subfolder. I named it default.aspx like I was supposed to and it worked flawlessly on the dev site. When I published it out the web, I wound up getting the following error when trying to get to the subfolder: [URL] Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Confused and flustered, I tried to go to [URL], but I wound up with some error that won't tell me the problem. Instead it tells me to change the my web.config to read <customErrors mode="Off"/>.
I have a simple javascipt which enables/disables some checkboxes when another checkbox ticked/unticked. This works fine, however, in some instances when by page is loaded my code behind disables the same check boxes. When this happenes my original check box nolonger seems to have any influence in enableing or disabling - there is no error and all the elements seem to be found by the javascript - it just doesn't enable/disable the checkboxes.
View 5 RepliesAs virutal directory points to physical path of the application, so if the IIS root directory is C:inetpubwwwroot and the application is stored at D:websites, than we need to create a virtual directory but if the application content is placed at C:inetpubwwwroot, then why still need to create virtual directory.

View 1 RepliesI have a page that shows a list of the files in an upload directory. ie: My customer uploads a file through my web page and the file ends up in the proper directory. When I click on a file name, the url path is missing the directory name. It's as if my customer uploaded directly to my root. Interestingly, when I upload a file through the same web page, the path remains intact and I am able to click on the link and download the file. How can I get the proper path in my url name.
