Javascript - Callback Function With Parameters

Jan 4, 2011

I'm using AJAX Page Methods, but I can't seem to be able to pass the needed parameters:

function getFavStatus() {
//favs is a list of DOM <imgs> that I want to modify their img.src attribute
for (i = 0; i < favs.length; i++) {
PageMethods.isFavorite(favs[i].alt,setFavImg(favs[i]));
}
}
function setFavImg(fav, response) {
fav.src = response;
}
The problem that I can't figure out is how to use the "response" from PageMethods, AND pass the DOM object to the callback function.
I've also tried doing something like this:
function getFavStatus() {
for (i = 0; i < favs.length; i++) {
PageMethods.isFavorite(favs[i].alt, function (response) {
favs[i].src = response;});
);
}
}

In this case, the response works properly, but i is always > favs.length, because it has already iterated through the loop... Edit: My PageMethods.isFavorite signature is: [System.Web.Services.WebMethod] public static string isFavorite ( string p_id )

CallBack Function Doesn't Works?

I'm trying to make some calls to a WebService I did exactly what is described in this article [URL] Looking at the console of firebug I could see that my function was executed and returned the expected data, but my callback functions (OnComplete, OnError, OnTimeOut) are never executed. AJAX :: Recover Parameter In Callback Function

Jan 15, 2011

I'm using ajax to call a webmethod from javascript. The call is successfully made to the webmethod but I'm not able to access the parameters I passed to the webmethod inside of the "OnSucceeded" callback method. I need access to those params because I need to perform more tasks on the client side when the webmethod returns. I'm assuming that the params are returned inside "usercontext", but the value of that param is "null" How can I have access to those params?

Here my sample code:

function OnSucceeded(result, usercontext , methodName)
{
alert( result + ' The value of usercontext is: ' + usercontext);
}
function OnFailed(error, userContext, methodName)
{
alert('Attempt to delete semantic attribute from page failed!');
}
function deleteSemanticAttribute()
{
var username = 'xxxxxx';
var password = 'yyyyyy'
PageMethods.GetMyData(username, password, OnSucceeded,OnFailed);
}
[WebMethod]
public static string GetMyData(string username, string password)
{
return "This is my test application!";
}

Javascript - Get Callback Info Back To Original Calling Function?

May 7, 2010

Let's say you have a Javascript function that calls a web service method. So that webservice completes and calls a callback function, which has the result.

How do I get that result back into the original function that called the web service method? Essentially, I'm trying to "synchronize" an asynchronous call.

Update:

This is what I'm trying to do. I'm validating based on the return value of a web service.

State Management :: Form Timeout Vs. Session Timeout Vs. Connectionstrings Timeout?

Jan 27, 2011

We have the timeout value set to 120 in our <form> tag within the web.config. We do not have a session timeout set.. and we have various connection strings.

We are having a problem where a session variable will disappear (become NULL) .. but, the form evidently remains 'open'.. or no re-login is required..... so, my question(s):

1. what is the relationship between form timeout and session timeout

2. how do I set session timeout

VS 2008 How To Handle Site Timeout

Dec 1, 2010

I'm used to public facing websites that use ASP.net membership - and when the SESSION vbl's timeout we re-direct to the login page like this

Code:

If Session("Yr") Is Nothing Then
Page.Response.Redirect("~Login.aspx?reason=timeout")
End If

And on the login page we check for that reason and put up a label on the screen saying that things timed out to protect sensitive data. This works fine. Now I'm doing a web site that's in house - and when the users connect they get a BROWSER POP-UP to login with the DOMAIN UN/PW - and once they get past that my default page redirects them to a home portal page. What do I do when my session vbl's expire now? I can't redirect to a login page - there is not one. How do I cause the re-authentication to happen more naturally?

VS 2008 Classes Subject To Session Timeout?

[eg] If the user logs in and I save a successful login as 'true' in a boolean property for the instance of the class, will this value expire after the session times out?

DataSource Controls :: SQL Statement Timeout / System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout Expired?

Jan 20, 2010

Hopefully I am posting this in the correct forum.

I am having a problem with my ASP.Net Web application. The application is developed using vb.net and is linked to a SQL Server database. Let me explain how the application works and the problem I am experiencing. The system is an online web app which allows registered users to create a CV online. One of the pages within the app gives users the chance to add a cover note to their CV. The page that allows them to do this consists of only a textarea control and a button control. The textarea allows users to input up to 4,000 characters.

Once the user clicks the 'Save' button to save their cover note info, the following code then executes.This code checks to see if the CV already has cover note info, if it does, then the application runs an update statement, otherwise, it runs an insert statement.The table within the database which records the cover note information is called tbl_covernote and has three columns, covernote_id (int and autoincrement), cv_id(int), covernote_text (nvarchar(max)).

The error which occurs sometimes is as follows:

Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim param(0) As SqlParameter

AJAX Timeout Although Request Is Completing Long Before Timeout Duration

Feb 15, 2010

I have an ASP.Net application that makes an AJAX request to retrieve at report. The report can run for a long time so I set the asyncpostbacktimeout in <asp:ScriptManager /> to 600. However, when I try to run the report, if it runs for longer than 90 seconds it fails to come back. I can see in the IIS logs that the POST request succeeded with a 200 status and I can see the time taken is much less than 600.

The web page dutifully waits for the entire 600 seconds before returning with a timeout error:

Error:

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerTimeoutException:

The server request timed out.

Is there any setting I should be checking in IIS? Connection timeout is 900 seconds.

Differences In Forms Auth Timeout And Session Timeout?

Feb 1, 2010

The session state timeout is set using this web.config element

<sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="120" />
The forms auth is configured using this web.config element
<system.web>
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="Login.aspx"
protection="All"
timeout="30"
name=".ASPXAUTH"
path="/"
requireSSL="false"
slidingExpiration="true"
defaultUrl="default.aspx"
cookieless="UseDeviceProfile"
enableCrossAppRedirects="false" />
</authentication>

What is the difference between the timeouts specified in each of these elements? If both are different, how would it work?

How To Pass A List Of Values To Compare In A SQL Function In SQL Server 2008?

Feb 18, 2010

I have an SQL Function with the following SQL within:

SELECT StockID FROM (SELECT DISTINCT StockID,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY DateAdded DESC) AS RowNum
FROM Stock
WHERE CategoryCode LIKE @CategoryID) AS Info
WHERE RowNum BETWEEN @startRowIndex AND (@startRowIndex + @maximumRows) - 1

I have a Parameter @CategoryID - however I need to take in a category ID such as "BA" and translated this to a list of Category IDs such as "IE","EG" etc so my WHERE clause looks like:

WHERE (CategoryCode LIKE 'IE' OR CategoryCode LIKE 'EG') AS Info

I have a Lookup Table which contains the "BA" code and then all the real category codes this means such as "IE" and "EG".How do I have the CategoryID expand to multiple "OR" statements in my SQL Function?

At the moment the query as shown can cope with one CategoryID such as "IE", this is done as I want a category page such as category.aspx where a parameter "BA" is passed such as category.aspx?category=BA and this page will list all items with the category codes "EG" and "IE".

The reason I need this is there is a "parent" category code which has multiple "children" category codes which are different to the parent code. I am using ASP.NET and .NET 3.5 on the front-end if this helps.

Web Services - Does The Server Timeout Setting Affect The Client Timeout Setting

Oct 15, 2010

I'm working with ASP.Net web services and am having a problem with a long-running process that takes about 5 minutes to complete, and it's timing out. To fix this, I was able to set the executionTimeout on the server's web.config to 10 minutes, and then set the .Timeout property on the Web Service object to approximately 9 minutes. Now, I'm worried that this may possibly cause some other web service calls to sit there for 10 minutes before they time out rather than the previous 90-100 seconds. I know the default on the client side is 100 seconds, but wasn't sure if updating the server's timeout setting would affect this.

Bottom line is - Is it safe to update the server's timeout setting to a long amount like 10 minutes, and rely on the default timeout on the client, or could this end up causing some problems?

Cannot Set Textbox Value In Callback Handler In C#

I am using ASP.NET Callbacks (that implements the ICallbackEventHandler) and in the handler, I try to set a value of the text box:

txtName.text = "Test";

but this value is not set. Is this a limitation with callback? It appears I cannot do much in a callback handler other than sending back a string to the client side (ofcourse I can access the Session etc)

Send A Callback To Other Page?

Aug 18, 2010

I have an asp.net page. I'm using a jquery library to open a modal window on link click. Within this modal window I'm loading another page. After i make update within this modal window I need to send a callback to "Parent" page. if I call function from this window I'm getting the error it couldn't find function. Window.opener.functionname also not working.

here is an example of my code

$(function () {
$('#ControlId').click(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
$.ModalWindow({
bgColor: '#3333cc',
url: 'default.aspx'
});
return false;
});
return false;
});

Is there any way how to send a callback?
