I have come across something strange. On my web page I have a panel popup with a multiline textbox and a link button. I enter a few lines of numbers in the textbox and submit the link button. I do not get the textbox.text value in the vb code when it posts back to run it.

View 1 RepliesI have a website written in C# that was running fine on one server. We moved it to another server and have a couple issues. I am mainly a VB.NET coder but can do a few things in C#. This is not a project - it is a website and can open it in VS2008 no problem. This is an admin site for the whole website where the user can add customer comments, etc. When logging in, it works fine. I can go to one of the admin pages after logging in and works. If I go to two other different pages, I get this error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

It turns out this is in the main.master page and it is used by the other pages that load fine. The ApplicationTitle variable is set right in the web.config file and like I said, it shows on the other pages.
My question is why would this code work fine for some pages and not two others? All of these admin pages are under a folder called Admin and the web.config file is in the root folder of the website. Its almost like these two pages cannot see the web.config file in the root folder? Why would that be if thats the case?
Btw, when I have this loaded in VS2008 and try to do a Build, it says:
It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.
I would assume the folders on the server are set right since all but two .aspx pages run fine. Just something I thought I would mention. This does not really seem to be a coding issue but something not set right especially since it ran on the other server just fine.
I have a form that has dynamically generated textboxes using javascript.
My question is how can I read the values of these dynamically generated textboxes since I dont see any HTML in the page source for these textboxes even though they appear in the page.
I tried to read using
var str = document.getElementById('txtHello').value;
It always returns null.
txtHello is the Id which I have given to the textbox when I generated it dynamically using javascript.
Is there a way to read the error message from the SMTP log files so that to indicate to the user that we are unable to send them email for any reason?

I populate the ListBox with ListItems and each ListItem's Value property holds the full path to the file. But, I removed all of that and just put txtLog.Text = "test" inside of the "is selected" block.
I know this is probably a pretty easy thing to do and it is if I can upload the file and store it onto the hard drive of the server. What I need to do is read the text file into memory and then parse through it one line at a time. Anyone have any code that demonstrates that?
View 8 Repliesi've got some problem reading excel files to store into sqlserver database. currently my code has a fileupload control and a button for me to save the excel file into a folder and read the data inside the excel file and write it into the sql database. The code works only if the excel sheet name is Sheet1.xlsx, however i tried upload a diff file named ImportUserFile.xlsx and it gave me the exception below. 'ImportUserFile$' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long. i have also tried other file names and it seemed only Sheet1.xlsx works.

I have the calendar extender to popup a calendar when I click in the textbox and works fine. Then I added the maskededit extender so I can make sure they enter the date right. But when i run it, only the maskededit extender is wokring although both are attached.

but when I tried to add the service reference to the silverlight app, the Add Service Reference window would show me that there was a service file, but the node wouldn't expand to show the rest of the files that contain the services and what not. I got this error instead:

I have a method that takes a LINQtoSQL object and a field name and will tell me the length of that field based on the attributes of that field within the class object. I want to use this method to set the maxlength of any bound textboxes in a gridview. I can loop through all textboxes, and if the textbox created from a bound field then i can get at the fieldname ok, however if it's created from a template i can't find any way of getting to the field name the textbox is bound to (since a template isn't bound to anything). What i'm after is a way of getting the field name the Text property of a TextBox is bound to in (ideally) any case, not just the case where it was created from a bound field.
