VS 2008 - Passing Data From Gridview Row To A Popup

Mar 1, 2012

I can't figure out how to do this. I have a gridview and I want the user to click on a row and pass some of the cell data to a model popup. For example, if I have a button called Delete on each row and they click the button, I want to popup a box to show the data from that row and ask to confirm to delete. I also need to use the data from that row to delete when they click Yes.

I'm sure I just missed on how to do this from searching. I'm looking for an example on the web.

The data in my dataset looks like the following:

Here is how the data looks in the dataset :

Deal Cashflow Date
-----------------------------------------------
0007 1228888 01/12/2011
0007 898998 02/12/2011

0008 888888 01/12/2011
0008 777777 02/12/2011

When I transpose the data, it should look like this:

I know you can do some formatting on the aspx page side such as dates, etc. but was wondering if I can do it on the vb code side?

VS 2008 Bound Gridview Control - Check When No Data?

Dec 16, 2010

I have a gridview control on a .aspx page. It is a bound control. So basically I didn't have to write any code to pull the data from database and show it on the grid.

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionStrdatabase %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM order WHERE SETTLEMENT_DT > AS_OF_DT"
</asp:SqlDataSource>
<asp:GridView ID="GridViewMissingCusipNumbers" runat="server"
AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True" SkinID="Professional" Font-Name="Verdana"
Font-Size="10pt" Cellpadding="4"
HeaderStyle-BackColor="#444444"
HeaderStyle-ForeColor="White"
AutoGenerateColumns="False"
DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="BO_SECID"
onrowcommand="GridViewMissingCusipNumbers_RowCommand" Height="285px"
onrowediting="GridViewMissingCusipNumbers_RowEditing"
onrowupdated="GridViewMissingCusipNumbers_RowUpdated"
onrowupdating="GridViewMissingCusipNumbers_RowUpdating" Width="426px"
onrowcancelingedit="GridViewMissingCusipNumbers_RowCancelingEdit">
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField ReadOnly="true" DataField="BO_SECID" HeaderText="BO SECID"
SortExpression="BO_SECID" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="CUSIP" HeaderText="PROXY CUSIP" SortExpression="CUSIP" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="PRICE" HeaderText="PRICE" SortExpression="PRICE" />
<asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="true" />
</Columns>
<HeaderStyle BackColor="#444444" ForeColor="White"></HeaderStyle>
<AlternatingRowStyle BackColor="Silver" BorderColor="Black" />
</asp:GridView>

So far so good. But where is no data is not returned from the database, I want to display something on the page saying "No data returned". But I don't know which gridview control event gets fired so that I can write some code in it to check if the records returned are zero.

I am not calling a stored procedure - I am writing my own select statement in the SelectCommand. How to show the header with no results? I searched but did not find an answer when using the SQLDataSource.

Forms Data Controls :: GridView Slows Down Going From VS 2005 To 2008?

Mar 5, 2010

I just upgraded one of my solutions from VS 2005 to 2008, and it completed successfully. The only thing that changed in the solution was that I went from .NET 2 to 3.5 framework.

Now when I debug and select a page where a GridView displays a table of 4580 rows the time to display it goes from 5 seconds to 5 minutes. Everything else in the project behaves as normal. Why would performance degrade on one GridView when going to VS 2008?

It's also noteworthy that changing the GridView parameters to AllowPaging="True" PageSize="25" will return performance to under a second response, as one might expect.

Forms Data Controls :: GridView , ASP.net 3.5 And Visual Studio 2008?

Apr 4, 2010

I have in my laptop VS 2003, VS 2005 and VS 2008. I am making some SMS application in which I am using some DLL which need asp.net 3.5 so I am making application VS 2008. Now in my application I am using DAL and BLL method where in I am making .xsd file with TableAdapted from that I am making BLL files.

I added Formview in my aspx page configure it with Objectdatasource . IDE was not invoking the wizard for objectdatasource after lot finding. I got from some forum that after removing bin folder from application. It will start working. This was the first problem now I add gridview in my aspx page now and configure with Object data source. But when I go property builder of gridview I cannot see Edit Template, I can see only Empty template and Pager Template. Here my question this is new in VS 2008 as when i was working with VS 2005 I could see all Template. Next thing when change anything through property builder, I can see changes in the design view mode but I cannot see any changes in HTML source view. Again when I switch back to HTML source view to design mode all changes will go away. Why is it so !! For more info I will put my aspx, aspx.vb page code here.

VS 2008 - Bind Data To Gridview / Hiding And Unhiding A Column

Mar 1, 2012

Right now when I bind data to my gridview, I have a column MemberNo that I use in the RowDataBound in another column for creating a link. Anyways, in the DataBound event i hide the MemberNo column. But I also have a routine where I need to loop through the rows and use the MemberNo. Can I unhide the column MemberNo to use for this routine and then hide it again? I assume I cannot use the data if it is hidden right?

I want to show the data either in Chart control or Gridview control. When the user selects an option to see the data either in chart control or grid view control, that specific control has to show up and other control has to become invisible.

So far, I am able to populate data successfully in the chart control. If the user chooses "Grid view" option, how can I show the data in grid view control in the same location. I don't want the gridview control to be shown in a pop up window or any other window.

Forms Data Controls :: Error - Gridview Fired Event "Sorting" Which Wasn't Handled Using Visual Studio 2008

Feb 21, 2010

I have a gridview in an update panel which is declared in an ASPX page, and bound to a SQLDataSource in code. The gridview's 'allowsorting' attribute is set to true, and because it is bound to a SQLDataSource, I expect the sorting to be automatically handled.

Yet I am getting the "Message: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: The GridView 'grdStatusItems' fired event Sorting which wasn't handled" error. I am using Visual Studio 2008, IE8, IIS7. What am I doing wrong? I have done anextensive search for this error, but it seems in most cases where this error occurs, the people are not using a SQLDatasource, so have to handle the sorting event themselves. Is this the case here? Here is the updatepanel and gridview declaration in the aspx file:
