My other half has asked me to knock up a website for her which I have but there is a need for an upload control. I need people to be able upload photos. I need a control to bring up a browse box. Allow them to select multiple files from their computer and hit ok then upload those images to my server (not for viewing just to upload.

i am designing a webform like registration form containing photo uploading.
my registration page is completed but photo upload is not wiorking.

I need to take a picture and submit it to my facebook wall automatically including text if included. Is there a way to do this from asp.net? I do not want to use any user interface - I want this to be automatic. As new pictures come on my server I want to post them right then.
I looked at the developer pages of fb but can't find anything that is more automated. What is the best and easiest way to submit the pictures?
Using VB 2008 and AjaxControlToolkit, when right clicking a control, the smart tag option is always greyed out.
Is this a bug in 2008 or something related to using the Ajax controls?
My VS 2008 IDE does not show "Debug" option in menu. Also F5 dosen't work and start button is disabled by default.
View 1 RepliesI am currently using VS 2008 Pro for an ASP.Net class. I got VS from school as part of MSDNAA program. It is version 9.0.21022.8 with .NET framework 3.5 SP1.
My problem is that when I start it up, it does not give me the option to Create or Open a Website. It only gives me the option to Create or Open a Project. So, when I start my homework or in-class assignments, I have to press Shift+Alt+N to Create a Website.
Where the problem comes in is after I start working on the website, I hit Save and it changes it to a Solution. This seemed to have caused a problem with BIND commands being lost in my last homework assignment. Is there something wrong with my install or a setting I can change? I'd rather not reinstall it unless I have to since it is such a pain to uninstall it in the first place.
i have created a website in VS 2008 express edition and i have a URL and hosting space and i'm sure the space in windows based and not linux based, all i want to know now is how to get my website onto the internet, do i have to up load it through VS or can i use a packaged such as filezila?

View 1 RepliesI have written a website and let the user upload their photo. It also resizes the picture to 400 x 400 and crops automatically to the center part of the picture. All of this works good but each file is about 355K each for JPG and PNG file formats. I just tried GIF and it is 49K but the picture is grainy when saved this way. Is there any way I can get the picture to a smaller file size with keeping it at 400 x 400? I really thought PNG would be the way to go and was surprised by it being the same as jpg. I don't want to lower the quality either for JPG files.

I am using a sql server 2008 database and I am uploading images to the server using an asp.net webapplication. I have an image column that I use to store the images. I have chosen the database to store the image and not a folder on the server, because the database table will contain only very few rows. maybe close to 10 or 15 rows.
My question is, Do I have to reduce the size (dimensions and quality affecting size on disc in kbs) of the image in code behind before uploading it to the database or do I keep it as is. The total upload size permitted is 200kb. I am thinking that when the image size (size in kbs) is small my webapplication performance will not be affected when displaying them from the database.
I've tried a couple of free ASP hosts (X10hosting and Heliohost) but I get the same problem when uploading an asp site - the asp file just shows the code in the browser. The site is sound because I've seen it in operation on other hosting.
View 1 RepliesI have a dynamic dropdown that is populated from sql. The user is supposed to select an option from the dropdown, then click a search button on the form to return some results based on that selection. It works fine if the dropdown gets populated with more than one record. However, if only one record is returned, that one record can't be selected. Whether you select it or just leave it alone since it's the only one, when you click the form button (search button), no results are returned b/c the dropdown selection must not be actually selected.

Is it possible for me to upload the data from an excel file to dataset of my application first, so that the user can view the data in a gridview to review it first, before the user strike the save button, to save it in the database. So, that in case there is a problem, the gridview will high light all the data with an error. So the user can easily pull out the excel and correct the data before saving it in the database.

In the IDE when I select to create a new global.asax file, the option to create a CS code behind file is greyed out. When the global.asax file is created, no code behind is created, instead code is placed in the global.asax file and the global.asax.cs file is never created? Just now, I opened up an ascx user control file and in source view right clicked somewhere on the page and I did NOT get the view code option. Several minutes later, I started getting the view code option. What's causing this?
View 1 RepliesWhen uploading a new DLL for a large web application (dll is around 1mb) IIS throws an error because the DLL is 'in-use', meaning the website is down while the DLL is being uploaded. Is there a way to stop this behaviour?
Also, although I am using Web Applications, not Web Sites, whenever I upload a new DLL it still takes a while for IIS to restart after a fresh upload. I thought this wait was generally only for websites as they need to be compiled by IIS, not Web Applications?
