VS 2010 Listview Header Template?
Nov 26, 2010
From what I can tell the listview doesn't have a header template. I'd like to be able to list and line up the column names with the data on my list view, but there doesn't seem to be a straightforward way to do this. If I put it in a table in the item template, it lines up like I want it, but it of course repeats which is what I don't want.

I have sub classed a asp repeater similar to A Grouping Repeater All works fine apart from if I also have a <HeaderTemplate> </HeaderTemplate> The grouping template is rendered before the header template. I would really like to either be able to choose the order in which the templates are rendered or just have the <GroupTemplate> Rendered after the header.

've programmatically created a listview, for displaying images. When you click on the download the ItemCommand is fired, and the browser sends the user the image as a binary response, using the following:
SPFile ImageIfile = spfolder.Files[ServerName];
byte[] bs = ImageIfile.OpenBinary();
string res = Page.Response.ContentType;
Page.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg";
Page.Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + Path.GetFileName(fileName))
Page.Response.BinaryWrite(bs);
Page.Response.End();
This works, exactly once. Then neither the download link, nor the DataPage paging controls
work until you refresh (Indeed any postbacks).
EDIT: It's a SharePoint 2007 WebPart, this is the declaration of the ListView in the CreateChildControls method:
lv.ItemPlaceholderID = "itemPlaceholder";
lv.GroupPlaceholderID = "groupPlaceholder";
lv.ID = "MediaSearch";
lv.LayoutTemplate = new LayoutTemplate();
lv.GroupTemplate = new GroupTemplate();
lv.GroupItemCount = 4;
lv.ItemTemplate = new ItemTemplate();
lv.EmptyDataTemplate = this.Page.LoadTemplate("/usercontrols/MediaResults_Empty.ascx");
And this is the ItemTemplate and DataBinding
public class ItemTemplate : ITemplate
{
public void InstantiateIn(Control container)
{.....

I have a gridview that displays the contents of a database table, using an sqlDataSource. That part (including inserting, updating and deleting rows) works perfectly. What I am wanting to do is add a "search" function to restrict the rows returned to a user entered name. I have a textbox for the name to be searched and a "Search" button in the headertemplate as such:
[Code]....
The DataBind fails, with the error:
Could not find control 'txtSearchName' in ControlParameter 'username'.

A have a ListView that is rendered with multiple items. Now I want to toggle some HTML attributes with JQuery. Therefore it would be best to have access to these elements via an unique ID.
But trying to create a "dynamic" and therefore unique ID by
<tr runat="server" ID='<%# this.GetUniqueID() %>'>
</tr>
results in an error that tells me that the ID needs to be simple and cannot be set by a call to a method.
I know that I can dynamically create controls in the code-behind and set the ID there. But in this case, I'd rather like to let the content be rendered by the ListView itself.
That brings me to the conclusion that the idea of setting a dynically ID in the Template is totally wrong. How can I achieve the desired behaviour?
Edit: Ok I just found out, that I can set the ID with a BindingExpression, like
ID='<%# Eval("MyColumnWithUniqueID") %>'
Still, is there another, or even better solution to this?

I can bind data to content template now but it is making unnecessary db calls when it tried to load intially since the data for the content template comes from different source. In order to avoid that i want o bind data to Content template only when the user is interested to look at the data. let me know how can i achieve this. Below is the sample on what on I am trying to do.

I have a list view with a label that shows "Step #x", another label with the instructions, and then 2 linkbuttons for editing or deleting. At the footer of the ListView is another button "Add New Step" which opens up an empty TextBox and two buttons to save and cancel. I would also like it to increment the label, but I can seem to find the control in the code behind to change it's text. How do I do this?
Here's the asp markup:
<asp:ListView ID="lvSteps" runat="server" DataSourceID="ldsProcessStep" DataKeyNames="ID" InsertItemPosition="None">
<LayoutTemplate>
<div><asp:PlaceHolder ID="itemPlaceholder" runat="server" /></div>

I have a listview I'm using to show some data. My question is, how do I manipulate that data being presented. For example, I have a label in my listview template that looks like this:
<asp:Label
ID="lblTerminalA"
runat="server"
Text='<%= Eval("MOT")%>'
/>
The listview's datasource is a datatable. lets say that data when presented looks like "SOME COMPANY NAME T4220" I only want to write to the screen "T4220" and trim off the stuff before it. How do I go about doing this?

I have a grid view that contains a lot of data. Users have to scroll down far sometimes to edit that data. But since the header of the gridview isn't inherently frozen, its a pain for them to edit that data because they have to constantly scroll up and down. I've looked up several different methods on how to freeze the columns, but it none work work well with bound data. Often times, the rows will be offset by a large margin and even greater so, when the data is being edited. So it beats the purpose of doing it.
I can't remember exactly what I've tried, but most of it's been around Javascript. Any method to freeze the header? Or is there a better control, third party or otherwise?

Grid View I added a function and then called it in the following event.
private void ShowNoResultFound(DataTable source, GridView gv)
{
source.Rows.Add(source.NewRow());
gv.DataSource = source;
gv.DataBind();
int columnsCount = gv.Columns.Count;
gv.Rows[0].Cells.Clear();
gv.Rows[0].Cells.Add(new TableCell());
gv.Rows[0].Cells[0].ColumnSpan = columnsCount;
gv.Rows[0].Cells[0].Text = "No Data Found";
}
protected void AppList_Selected(object sender, SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs e)
{
if (e.AffectedRows == 0 )
{
ShowNoResultFound(AppList, GridView1);
}
}
It displays the following error The type or namespace name 'DataTable' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?
ListView
Added the following. It shows the message but not the header. Also tried adding ShowHeader="True". It it not allowing it.

<EmptyDataTemplate>
Sorry, no data to display.

I need to apply a function, called get_local_name() to translate, in the language chosen by the user, the headers of a table in Listview. The function searches a table with all the translations and gets the one corresponding to the original name of the header. I had no problems with other buttons or labels. There I have a label, a property Text, so it's easy, for me, remember I'm a total noob, to recall the element I want to translate in Vb. For instance:
Protected Sub select_local()
L_admin.Text = get_local_name("Admins", lng)
End Sub
Private Sub GV_customers_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles GV_customers.RowDataBound
If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.Header Then.....
and now I have to do the same for the headers in Listview, but I really can't understand how I could apply get_local_name to the Text of the headers.

Writing a row header of listview. It is difficult to make a codeless listview but now I just want to achieve this with anyway.
Here is the sample image

If this is impossible, then I will write a table for this. Thx!

I have a gridview ...asp 2.0 and VS 2005.The Gridview has template fields and I am using a Header Templete and an Item Template field.Within the Item template fields I am using a asp: table and within the table I am using different asp controls to bind data to the gridview
Here is the issue ...I want that each datafield should align with each other eactly i.e. symmetricaly each column wise.The problem as of now is that as each row of data is displayed in a new table and as a result each column aligns differently.How can I align the columns with each other?
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Table>
<asp:label> ...<Eval(datafield) </asp:label>[code]....
