VS 2010 / Prevent Encrypted Data In ASPX File
Apr 12, 2012
how to prevent a rendered ASPX page from having the encrypted data in the head area. With the fact that the data is in there, it prevents bots and crawlers from reaching the true SEO data within the page. I would like to use ASPX pages to create my web pages. As of now, I cannot because of the garbage loaded in the beginning of a rendered page.

I have access to two servers, one with my development database on, and another with the live database on.
All SQL Stored Procedures, Functions, Views are encrypted on the live database (using WITH ENCRYPTION in my query)
However I'm concerned I might accidentally encrypt a bunch of SProcs on my development database meaning I can no longer view/edit that code.
I have full control over the server and database, and was wondering if there is a way I can prevent these from being encrypted, therefore throwing up an error when this is attempted?

I have code that needs to run in two deployments. Let's call them deployment H and deployment W.
The code is already running in deployment H, and there's an aspx page and an aspx.cs code-behind file. The code is compiled for framework 2.0 which is the lowest common denominator of the two deployments. Deployment H has its own logos and styling which are coded in its aspx file.
Deployment W now wants to use this same page, but it wants its own logos and styling. There are also additional fields on the page that deployment H doesn't need.
I think it's easier to maintain one code base which is why I want the same code-behind file, but I am having trouble figuring out how to set this up in Visual Studio. Orginally, I was going to have two projects, one for W and one for H, but I'd have to make the same changes to both files when some of the common areas changes.

My aim is to make the web.config not readable by external users, but my application should be able to access it. Is there any way to do this?
I have tried the following way, but how to set the application to use string instead of web.config?
I want to encrypt my web.config file so that others do not open the file using any editor like notepad. But my application should be able to use the same web.config file. I could encrypt the web.config file and decrypt it inside the application and I saved the entire web.config to a string file. Now I want to use this string variable instead of web.config(now in encrypted form, which cannot be accessed by the application).

I encrypted my web.config file and I copied this file to the production server. But I get an error. But without encrypting - it's ok. I used:
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319aspnet_regiis -pef "appSettings" "C:inetpubwwwrootSite1" -prov RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider
I don't have access to IIS. Is it possible to encrypt config file and everything works?

I've created a web service using VS 2010 and .Net 3.5, deployed on Win7. No hiccups regarding performance or functionality. However, after adding performance counters I realized that the web service is restarted every few thousand calls (which happens after a few seconds).
The application pool has already been changed to not use recycling but this behavior persists.

I am using a generic handler (indicator.ashx) to create a graphic that is overlayed from information from a table (called LIVE) from our SQL database. This is working very well and I am very happy with the results.
However I am having an undesirable issue where the query string that is used for this is also being accessed by another page (called ReceiveLive.aspx) which is populating our LIVE table with data when we don't want this. I have been able to track this issue down to our generic handler that seems to populate this table with data whenever the handler is accessed.
The query string that is used to access our graphic through our generic handler is
http://mydomain.com/indicator.ashx?ID=ABC001.
Our other page that writes data to our LIVE database used the query string
http://mydomain.com/live.aspx?ID=ABC001 which is normally only accessed by a small piece of software that sits on the users PC and sends the data when necessary.
My question is this: How do I prevent data from being written to our LIVE table via the Live.aspx page everytime a query string is processed by my indicator.ashx is accessed?

I've written some code to scan a directory and write the images to a different view. I'm using buttons with CommandName="NextView" and CommandName="PrevView" to navigate to the following view.
My code to write the images to the different views is called upon the page_load event.
However after clicking the next and previous button this seems to cause a page reload as the images are written to the view again so I end up with duplicate images.
I googled a bit and one of the suggestions was to place the multiview in an contenttemplate and updatepanel but that didn't work either.
Now I've solved the problem by clearing the labels to which the images are written in the page load before the other code fires.

I my exporting data through dataset to excel. But one column say awb no having datatype nvarchar contains long int no say : 123456789012345.
Then instead of displaying this no in numeric format(123456789012345) it is displaying in exponent form(1.23457E+19).
Is there any way to stop this i want data in numeric format (like this 123456789012345).

I am using URL Routing in my .Net Web Application. I would like to prevent users from being able to access the .aspx page.
Example:
Actual URL - [URL]
Routed URL - [URL]
I want users to be able to access the page only by going to /Testimonials, but I would like to setup /Testimonials.aspx to redirect to its route at /Testimonials.
Is there an easy way to do this for Routed Pages throughout the application?

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and working on an ASP.NET 4.0 web application. At the moment, a co-worker and I are tweaking CSS, which means constantly changing and saving CSS files and then refreshing the running page in a web browser.Every few saves, the application restarts, causing a considerable delay while we wait for the app to start up, log in again, and return to the page we were working on. In an IIS production environment a CSS file wouldn't go through the ASP.NET ISAPI, but apparently when running with VS2010 and the developent web server this doesn't matter... or something.

I need to design two apps who can interact with each other. The first app, App A needs to send an encrypted string over to App B and App B will have to decrypt it and do some stuff. How would I go about that?
App A - http://MachineA/default.aspx
App B - http://MachineB/default.aspx
I tried encrypting the data using AESCryptoServiceProvider and it returns a byte[]. Now how would I transfer it over to another application? Via query strings?
http://MachineB/default.aspx?data=<<EncryptedString>>
Query strings does not take a byte[] parameter. So I am clueless now.

I'm just wondering if anyone has come across a good, easy method for updating a SQL Server 2000 DB table using the edit feature in GridView. The catch here is that I need it to encrypt, send to database, then decrypt when the page calls it to be displayed. I have successfully implemented an insert method using FormView with encryption. For some reason, I just can't seem to figure out the edit/update.

Even with https enabled, you can write a password to the event log in code-behind. Any way to keep that password encrypted in code while you're checking it against a data store?
(using Login control)
(couldn't add comment to Andrew's answer, so I'm putting it here)
NTLM uses the username/password of the machine the user is logged into right? For this, I was thinking using ActiveDirectory on the server as the data store. It would have a diferrent un/pw than what the user is currently signed in to their machine as.
