VS 2010 URL Rewrite Regex - Root Files Only
May 17, 2012
I am using url rewriting rules in my web.config and have it working but today I added a rule in a folder but my primary rule keeps overriding.
Web.config
Code:
<rewriter>
<rewrite url="~/folder/*_a_(.+).aspx" to="~/folder/index.aspx?id=$1" />
<rewrite url="~/*_a_(.+).aspx" to="~/listing.aspx?id=$1"/>
</rewriter>
Usage:
www.domain.com/topic_a_1.aspx -> This would load listing.aspx?id=1 which is great.
www.domain.com/folder/newtopc_a_2.aspx -> This is also loading listing.aspx?id=2 but should be loading index.aspx?id=2
I believe I need to change the second rule from *_a_... to something like [^/]_a_.... but that doesn't work.
What I can do so the second rule doesn't override my sub folder rules?

I have a website, lets call it mywebsite.com. I also have a blog at mywebsite.com/blog. I have made a URL rewrite rule so it can be accessed from blog.mywebsite.com. The issue is that all my root relative paths (~/) do not work when viewing the blog from blog.mywebsite.com. Ok, say if there is a link on my blog that goes to a blog post that is at ~/blog/post.aspx?id=1. It will then go to blog.mywebsite.com/blog/post.aspx?id=1 which is actually, mywebsite.com/blog/blog/post.aspx?id=1 and that does not exist.

I have been trying to use UrlRewriter (Intelligencia.UrlRewriter.dll) in a test project. My rewrite statement is as in the following:
<rewrite url="~/Sample/(.+)" to="~/Sample.aspx?Test=$1"/>
This statement works great for a URL like: [URL] or, let's say: [URL] And, I can retrieve the value "12345" in Sample.aspx file as: Label1.Text = "Test: " + Request.QueryString["Test"];
And when I hit the root link, it successfully displays the Default.aspx: [URL] What I want to accomplish is taking the "Sample" off the regex statement, so that I can directly hit [URL] and display Sample.aspx by retrieving "12345" value. And, when the root is hit [URL] it will simply display Default.aspx as it is now. Is it possible? Can the regex statement be updated to something else for this purpose?

So I created a website in visual studio 2010 and I transfer it to my web host.
The problem is the webhost has the a file structure like this:
[URL]
And I put all my files in wwwroot, and it works fine on the web.
But now in VS, since I had to add [URL] folders, I am getting compile errors that say "This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS".
So my question is - how do I either A) change the root application for IIS on my machine to be at the wwwroot levelB) change VS to let me copy files from the root directory in VS to the [URL] dirctory.

What I want to do it rewrite urls for a bunch of static pages in a locations folder such that
/london
maps to the physical file if it exist in the locations folder eg.

Is this possible with url rewrite. I can't get the rule to work.

<match url="^([_0-9a-z-]+)/*" />
<conditions>
<add input="/locations/{REQUEST_FILENAME}.aspx" matchType="IsFile" />
</conditions>
<action type="Rewrite" url="/locations/{R:1}.aspx" />

is this something basic or am I missing something?My ASP.NET (4.0) site has a web.config with URL rewrite rules. When I run it in debug mode (local webserver) all the URLs fail because the local web server does not recognize the rules (e.g. I have /register which maps to register.aspx etc.)Is there someway I can get the debug system to recognize my URL rewrite rules? Should I be doing something else?

I am a PHP developer and have been asked to make some slight amendments to an ASP.net site. I can make these amendments but the biggest challenge seems to be getting the actual site up and running on my own server! I have a had lots of errors with regards to the paths to files, as the website is linked absolutely to the root folder and on my development server I cannot have the files at the root. I have therefore worked my way through some of the files making the paths relative so I can at least see some of the site running but then I came across this error:
CS0103: The name 'Data' does not exist in the current context
Line 5: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs args)
Line 6: {
Line 7: rptNews.DataSource = Data.NewsArticle.GetLatestNews(3);
Line 8: rptNews.DataBind();
Line 9: }
I assume this is something to do with data being called from a database. How to get the site and database up and running as I have no idea where to start and feel I am going round in circles.

I have an ASP.NET application running on Apache server with mod_mono. If I have a folder called "temp" located in the website's root directory and run the following code
System.IO.TextWriter tw = new System.IO.StreamWriter("temp/test.txt");
tw.WriteLine(DateTime.Now);
tw.Close();
it saves test.txt in C:Program FilesMono-2.6.4in emp on the server. If I add a slash to the directory name like this: System.IO.TextWriter tw = new System.IO.StreamWriter("/temp/test.txt"); It saves it to C:/temp. Both do not do what I want. How do I get the code to save the file to the temp folder inside my website's root directory? Is this a mod_mono issue or something to do with Apache? I have tried adding this line to httpd.conf Alias /temp "C:/Path_to_root_folder/temp" without any luck. I shouldn't have to use alias if the temp folder is within the root directory, correct? In my development environment which uses XSP as the web server everything works as expected. It is only a problem when running on Apache.

I have a website(not an application) built in VS2008. When I try to publish the site, any of the files that are in the root folder are not published. This has only just started happening and I am unsure what I have changed to cause this. The files are not excluded from the project.

If application is started without debugging - it runs smoothly, when I press F5 I get: "Unable to start debugging on the web server. Could not start ASP.NET debugging. More information may be available by starting the project without debugging. Click Help for more information"I noticed that problems are caused by URL Rewrite section in web.config:
<rewrite>
<rules>
<clear />
<rule name="LowerCaseRule" stopProcessing="true">
<match url="[A-Z]" ignoreCase="false" />
when I comment it out - I can start debugging. Also debugging works on VS's built-in web server.I'm running Win7 64 bit, VS 2010, application's framework is 4.0, in IIS application has ASP.NET 4.0 Intergrated pool set

I just inherited an ASP.NET WebForms web application that I was tasked with refactoring. One of the features is a file upload and while debugging I noticed that as soon as a file is posted to a certain page/handler, it is automatically uploaded to the root directory of the application. The file is then moved to the proper location. I can't seem to figure out whats causing this automatic upload of the file. Is there something I'am overlooking in ASP.NET WebForms that allows this to happen? Is it an IIS configuration or something?

I'm not sure what I did to cause this but my website homepage won't load unless I specifically type the filename into the root of the website - i.e. URL....works but URL... doesn't. It could be something I changed in the web.config or the project properties.

I am slowly working out the setup issues with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on my newly installed Windows 7 Professional Machine. I was running XP and copied most of my files back over using the 'Windows Easy Transfer' tool I used prior to installing (not an upgrade) Windows 7.
When I try to publish my website to wwwroot in 2 ways. When I select 'Delete all existing files prior to publish' I get the following error:
Error deleting file 'about.aspx'. Unable to delete 'about.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system.
When I use 'Replace matching files with local copies' I get this error:
Unable to add 'about.aspx' to the Web site. Unable to add file 'about.aspx'. Access is denied.

Please help to understand this RegEx statement in details. It's supposed to validate filename from ASP.Net FileUpload control to allow only jpeg and gif files. It was designed by somebody else and I do not completely understand it. It works fine in Internet Explorer 7.0 but not in Firefox 3.6.
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator id="FileUpLoadValidator" runat="server"
ErrorMessage="Upload Jpegs and Gifs only."
ValidationExpression="^(([a-zA-Z]:)|(\{2}w+)$?)(\(w[w].*))(.jpg|.JPG|.gif|.GIF)$"

I ran into the following issue when trying to run a test website on IIS 7.5 (Windows Server 2008 R2 DatacenterEdition). The web-app is configured to run with framework version 3.5 in a .Net 2.0 app pool. Also the framework 4.0 beta 2 is installed on the server. The application named 'TestPfade' is located under the website's root named 'Default'. It is not only a virtual directory but defined as an application. The folder structure looks like this: The markup of the sole document reads as follows:
[Code]....
When viewed in a browser the image gets shown because the given relative path is correctly resolved to 'images/Lighthouse.jpg' but the paths to the ajax-framework resources also include the application's root folder and therefor aren't found: 'src="/TestPfade/WebResource.axd?d=1bX...' Here is the complete html-source generated:

I just installed VS2010 and opened the root machine.config and web.config files for review and I found some errors. In machine.config, the following line has errors in both entries for <Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior>. When I hover the cursor over them I get a tooltip text which displays: "The element 'endpointBehaviors' has invalid child element 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'. The same problem happens for the second appereance in tag <serviceBehaviors>.
[Code]....
In web.config, there is a tag called <protocols> that has an error with a tooltip text that says "The element 'system.web' has invalid child element 'protocols'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'.

I have a VS2010 project that I want to move back and forth between an x86 and an x64 machine. On the x86 machine, several assemblies are located in Program Files, and the path of the assemblies are shown as c:Program Files...... When I move this project to the x64 machine, the same assemblies are located in C:Program Files (x86).... Is there a way that I can confugure VS2010 so I don't have to manually change the path when I move the project from one machine to another?

I'm having a little trouble with using regex in linq. I want to be able to perform a search on values in my database. The goal is to insert a value into the regex and then use that to search a column in a table in my database for that term. I want it to work so that it gets all exact matches and also returns matches in which the search term is a substring of the term in the column.
I was trying to follow this tutorial on msdn, but it doesn't quite fit perfectly with my problem:

Code:

In the app that I'm currently working on, users can upload zip files. I want to restrict the users from uploading exe files (or any potentially virus infected type of files).
I want to list the files inside the zip they are uploading, and check for file extension, and deny the upload if a potentially unsafe file is found. I've been searching on the net, I found examples that use java (like this one), but java is not supported in Visual Studio for a while it seems...
I am using Framework 4.0
